To think short men get treated poorly

We see all the comments online, real life etc..

Comments such as:

  1. "he has short man syndrome" (short women do not get told this)
  2. "too bad he is short he was quite good looking" (in other words saying someone being short makes them not good looking)
  3. "future children will be short" (as if that is someone's only concern and not whether the child becomes a good person. Also height of children is not solely determined by the male. There are other factors.

It is okay to have a preference but some of these "preferences" seem to be ill mannered comments.

Plenty of men say they only want to date slim women and don’t want any “salad dodgers” seen it all the time so don’t act like they don’t

Don't think anybody is. There are a lot of negative stereotypes about short men that go beyond dating.

Can't really get upset about this.

Tom Cruise is short and it doesn't seem to have held him back. Mean people will always find something to pick on.

There's an exception for celebrities with boatloads of money. He's also a bit of a nutter, and that hasn't hurt either.

Eh? my DH is 5ft 4 (3 inches taller than me) he has never had any comments about his height, never been treated as different by his friends ( his 2 best friends are giants compared to him) or family, wasn't teased at school or work, he is in fact the perfect height for me

stopgap · 10/06/2021 19:49

@AuntMasha

Just my personal experience, but I’ve found that short men are often attracted to taller women and are also very good lovers.
That would be my experience 😁 I’m 5’7.5 and DH is 5’7. He often pokes fun at the fact he’s a bit short and now, at 48, he’s also bald.

But he’s got a fantastic physique, he’s so kind, funny, smart, successful, has beautiful eyes. I couldn’t imagine having a height stipulation and missing out on having such a great life partner.

As it turns out, both my sons—ages 7 and 10—seem to be taking after my dad and brother (6’ and 6’3) and are very tall for their age. I suppose, as boys, that’s the societal preference, but I place a huge emphasis on appearance being a distant bronze to smarts and personality.

Tiddleandplonk · 10/06/2021 20:25

What is actually classed as short anyway ?

I would think anything below the average (5’9). My husband, who’s 5’7, refers to himself as “tall short” 😁
LoopTheLoops · 10/06/2021 20:52

Below average would be short, surely it’s easy to tell when a guy is short?

FortunesFave · 10/06/2021 22:26

My DH is 5.8. I've always gone for stocky men...I like them! My tallest boyfriend was 6.6 and it was ridiculous kissing someone who was a foot taller than me. And people always tried to start fights with him in the pub.

DH is very popular...lots of friends. His Dad is only 5.5 and he's ridiculously popular...always out...his Facebook page is full of people wanting to catch up and posting memories of the last catch up.

I'd say that being short is only a hinderance if you don't have much personality.

We have an electrician who is about 5.4 and he's got tonnes of personality. We live in Oz too...land of the giants!

coogee · 10/06/2021 23:20

Surprisingly, the average height for a man in Oz is only very slightly more than in the UK. 10mm.

I have heard that but looking at the friends of my teenage kids, I don't think it can be long before it changes. Most of them are way taller than me at age 15-16 and I'm 5.6...girls too. DD's mates seem to average at 5.8 or so by the age of 15 and the boys are all around 6 foot already.

Yeah, but Australian men go out further so they seem much bigger!

My DW and all my previous GFs agree with this.

not that I've asked them lately
