To think this experience was strange ( hairdressers)

I went to a new hairdressers recently . Reasonably priced £31 cut and blow dry with a stylist. The stylist washed my hair once which I thought was odd ( usually always has been washed twice ). She dried my hair before cutting it . I have never had anyone do this before . Also last thing when she did cut it I could hear it very clearly each separate chop!

Is this strange ?

I've never had mine washed twice but they always cut it wet.

PawsQueen · 09/06/2021 12:05

Depends on your hair! Mine is cut dry, then washed and dried then cut dry again but I have wavy/curly hair

Seeline · 09/06/2021 12:09

I have always had my hair washed twice, and most hairdressers refuse to cut dry hair - I have even had it dampened with a water spray bottle in the past just so that it wasn't dry.

I can usually hear the scissors though.

I pay about £50 for my haircut though (south London)

cappuccinoandcats · 09/06/2021 12:15

My hairdresser cuts my hair when it is dry. That way we can both see how the style is progressing and the correct length. When hair is cut whilst wet, it ends up shorter

XiCi · 09/06/2021 12:16

Always have it washed twice though I don't think it would bother me if it was just once. A lot of hair stylists dry cut now, especially if the style requires precision or strong lines. I dont think I've had mine cut wet for a long time now, so that in itself is not unusual. Are you happy with the cut? That's the main thing surely

Royalbloo · 09/06/2021 12:17

Never had it washed twice?!

XiCi · 09/06/2021 12:19

and most hairdressers refuse to cut dry hair
This just isn't true, it may have been 20 years ago but most good stylists will dry cut now

MadeForThis · 09/06/2021 12:21

Washed twice?? 2 shampoos or actually washed and dried twice?

Confused.

BetterThanKleenex · 09/06/2021 12:24

2 shampoos is only really necessary for some hair types- just 1 will suffice for mostly clean hair of the right type.

If you hair has any curl or texture cutting dry may be easier- some hairdressers have a preference and as long as your hair came out alright it shouldn't be a problem.

VioletCharlotte · 09/06/2021 12:26

Dry cutting is a technique. Your hairdresser will most likely have decided to cut it dry because of your hair type or the style. If you have coarse / curly hair, a dry cut works best. It's also better for an uneven style, like an aysmmetrical bob.

You should have asked her, most hairdressers are happy to explain what they're doing and why (and if they're not, then best to avoid!)

Mummyratbag · 09/06/2021 12:28

My mum was a hairdresser back in the 50s/60s - always cuts hair dry and I was always told to wash my hair twice (once to clean and once to make it shine). I wash mine every other day, but only once or it would get too dry, but as a child it was once a week washed twice.

XiCi · 09/06/2021 12:31

Washed twice?? 2 shampoos or actually washed and dried twice?
Sorry but this made me laugh. Just imagining having a wash and blow dry then being led back to the basin for wash 2 GrinGrin
I'm sure the OP means the standard 2 shampoos and then conditioner

Spekoppar · 09/06/2021 12:31

Dry cuts seem to be becoming more commonplace, especially for wavy/curly hair. Always works best for mine

Jaxhog · 09/06/2021 12:33

I'm always asked if I've washed it that day. If yes, it just gets washed once. But it is always cut wet.

TheTuesdayPringle · 09/06/2021 12:34

But how does it look? Are you happy?

mumwhatnothing · 09/06/2021 12:34

I’ve ever had two washes so had no clue. Is this what phoebe in friends was on about with “lather, rinse, repeat?” Sounds like a pain
Timeforredwine · 09/06/2021 12:35

I presumed 2 shampoos and a conditioner was standard plus i hsve been told by different hairdressers that they dont dry cut but will spray down then cut. Dont know why.

JaneJeffer · 09/06/2021 12:35

I've had hairdressers cut mine wet and then go back in when it's dry to finish off.

mamakoukla · 09/06/2021 12:37

More importantly - do you like the haircut?

dementedpixie · 09/06/2021 12:42

I dont even shampoo my hair twice.
Do you like the cut?

Nanny0gg · 09/06/2021 12:50

Twice is usual unless your hair was freshly washed.

Dry cutting is becoming a 'thing'

Couchbettato · 09/06/2021 12:51

My hair always looks better after a dry cut rather than a wet cut.

I have really thick hair though so I usually end up with 2 washes for the trapped oil in the hair and scalp.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/06/2021 12:52

My hairdresser cuts the general shape whist wet but prefers to dry it and do any further layering. I can always hear the snipping.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 09/06/2021 12:53

Mine washes mine once or twice depending on how dry it is.

When it's wet she'll usually chop a bit off but the vast majority is done after she's dried it.

Wouldn't say one wash and a dry cut is unusual.

SticksAndStoned · 09/06/2021 12:56

I can't remember the last time I had my hair cut wet. Usually they straighten it and then cut it. Wet cuts are much less of a thing now hair straighteners exist.
