To think this experience was strange ( hairdressers)

I went to a new hairdressers recently . Reasonably priced £31 cut and blow dry with a stylist. The stylist washed my hair once which I thought was odd ( usually always has been washed twice ). She dried my hair before cutting it . I have never had anyone do this before . Also last thing when she did cut it I could hear it very clearly each separate chop!

Is this strange ?

I've always had hairdressers cut my hair wet, then dry it then finish off. I have thick hair and it's short.

idontlikealdi · 09/06/2021 12:58

Always washed twice cut wet, sprayed if needed. I have very fine straight hair though.

Peach01 · 09/06/2021 13:03

@SticksAndStoned

I can't remember the last time I had my hair cut wet. Usually they straighten it and then cut it. Wet cuts are much less of a thing now hair straighteners exist.
I was thinking this. Rainbow Room always straightened then cut.

My hairdresser usually cuts dry. Think only once or twice he's done a wet cut. Dry seems to be a lot more precise.

ElephantOfRisk · 09/06/2021 13:05

"And repeat" was added to shampoo bottles as a way to double revenue. Unless your hair holds dirt then one shampoo is usually enough, the washer will be able to feel if it's clean. I sometimes then get conditioner but not always as although i have quite a lot of hair so it appears thick, it's actually a fine texture so a condition is really only needed sometimes.

I've never had a dry cut from the get go but hairdresser will go in and adjust the cut once she has dried it. Cutting dry hair has more of a crunch to it i think.

GreyHare · 09/06/2021 13:05

I have mine dry cut, I have a blunt bob and it's much more precise and straight when cut dry.

mam0918 · 09/06/2021 13:10

they always cut mine dry (or lightly mist it with a bottle) no wash used, Im glad because those wash sinks are like torture.

My hair is SUPER thin and really streachy when wet though, it can double its length if you pull it so you cant brush/comb it etc... because the tangles dont untangle they streach then snap.

I cant have a lot of treatment because of my hair type, lot of chemical treatments just eat right through my hair within minutes... it results in me being asked to do lots of strand tests followed by 'sorry we cant do that on your hair type its just snapping'.

Never have mine washed at all! Just turn up having washed it at home that morning, quick spritz of water and a quick cut and I’m out of there. Pay £15 and it’s way better than when it’s washed and blow dried and all that faff that I wouldn’t normally do myself at home anyway.

Greenrubber · 09/06/2021 13:14

Wouldn't bother me how they did it as long as I was happy with the result

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 09/06/2021 13:14

Also last thing when she did cut it I could hear it very clearly each separate chop!

Um... what? Did you expect her to use silent scissors?

longtompot · 09/06/2021 13:15

It's a bit odd having it dried and then cut, unless like some ops have mentioned you have curly hair. I always have mine shampooed twice then conditioned and cut wet, but mine is wavy rather than curly. Was the haircut good? Was it what you wanted? I'd go with the end result rather than the procedure they went through.
My worst haircut was through a Herbal Essences free haircut promo. The person spent at least 15 minutes washing it, then when they cut it, they just brushed it all straight back and cut straight along the back in one motion! I was so shocked and it looked so awful, I just waited until I left and phoned my usual hairdresser and got them to redo it for me. The previous hairdresser is no longer there, no surprise if that's how they cut everyone's hair.

ethelredonagoodday · 09/06/2021 13:18

Mine does the overall shaping cut wet and then a lot of additional cutting once it's dry. I have loads of hair though a lot of time is spent taking the weight out of it.

relations01 · 09/06/2021 13:19

Sorry I mean washed twice as in one shampoo .. then straight away another shampoo then conditioner . It was greasy by Monday ( I had it cut Saturday) I can usually get away without washing it for a week after going to the hairdressers.

No I don't have curly hair . I have had hairdressers cut my fringe when it's dry but never the rest of my hair . I'm not sure regarding the cut . I am growing out my fringe so she didn't touch the fringe at all or the sides so it's still messy. I thought she may have trimmed the sides a little ( they do need to grow ) but she said it wouldn't look right .

Never had my hair washed twice. I do have it rinsed twice though because they shampoo and then condition.
As far as cutting dry - my hairdresser cuts my hair when it's wet and then cuts it again once it's dry. I think it's because my hair is slightly dry and wavy and tends to spring back quite short once it's dry. This way she doesn't cut too much off. Also I think the natural oils on her hands help to smooth out the frizz when she cuts it dry.

77kidsandcounting · 09/06/2021 13:36

Its strange that you think its strange

Thats normal where i live

PinkiOcelot · 09/06/2021 13:37

I always have my hair washed twice. I had this happen to me too. I was quite surprised as had never happened before. It wasn’t the best cut and blow tbh. I never went back.

Needingsupportplease · 09/06/2021 13:40

Mine normally shampoos twice and cuts mine dry and shes amazing

BackBeatTheWordisOnTheStreet · 09/06/2021 13:45

Why would anyone wash your hair twice? I'd feel like myhair must have been super dirty if they washed it twice! Mine has always been cut wet though, I do have difficult curly hair if that makes a difference.

Babypug · 09/06/2021 13:49

Were you happy with the cut? If you are happy days, if not then say something. Each hairdressers do things slightly differently.

User52739 · 09/06/2021 13:50

I’ve never had mine washed twice, but it is always cut wet. Is your hair very thick? Maybe she thought it would be easier to shape when dry if so.

Not sure if it’s weird to hear the scissors. I usually can - they are right by your ears.

FizzyPink · 09/06/2021 13:51

I usually have my hair cut dry because I like it to be straight across the bottom without any layers or anything so it’s easier for them to check it’s perfect if it’s dry.
They do wash it beforehand though as I always have a full head of highlights

stackemhigh · 09/06/2021 13:53

Sounds about right to me. I had a wash and cut for £19 on Sunday, and they washed on once. However, I had washed it the day before, I don't like going to the hairdresser with greasy hair, don't think it's fair on the assistant.

I have also been going there for years so they also did a full blow dry for free as it was quiet.

purplecorkheart · 09/06/2021 13:55

I have had my hair washed once in some salons and twice (most often) in other salons. I do have oily hair and feel this is a factor. My last haircut was done dry as I asked for weight to be removed rather than length. Normally if I get length removed it is done wet and then dried and final shaping is done dry/precision cut.

DaisyFeather · 09/06/2021 14:10

Occasionally you find hairdressers that do things the way that works for them. I once had one who would cut, then dry and style that section and then go onto the next bit. It was a fabulous cut but it took so long!

PurpleRainDancer · 09/06/2021 14:12

Also last thing when she did cut it I could hear it very clearly each separate chop!
