To think this experience was strange ( hairdressers)

I went to a new hairdressers recently . Reasonably priced £31 cut and blow dry with a stylist. The stylist washed my hair once which I thought was odd ( usually always has been washed twice ). She dried my hair before cutting it . I have never had anyone do this before . Also last thing when she did cut it I could hear it very clearly each separate chop!

Is this strange ?

Is your hair usually washed twice or is it conditioner and/or other poncy stuff 😂 I’m only asking because they take ages doing my hair with the various different treatments.

Does your hair look how you’d expect afterwards? Shiny and like you’ve just stepped out of a salon? That’s the main thing I think.

DesertSky · 09/06/2021 14:42

Never had mine washed twice although I always go in with clean hair? My hairdresser cuts mine after drying too.

Londontown12 · 09/06/2021 14:44

Hairstylist here ! 1 shampoo is not enough unless U have washed it that morning lazy stylist at a guess one wash loosens stuff in the hair the 2nd wash gets anything out of the hair ! That’s what we are trained to do !!
Dry cutting is old fashioned ! Wet cutting is more precise and then we finish off with dry cutting once styled to finish and check cut ! Hope this helps !! X

PawsQueen · 09/06/2021 14:46

@Hairobsessed123 not always old fashioned depending on the hair. It's better on curly hair to cut it dry

Hankunamatata · 09/06/2021 14:50

Never had it totally cut dry. Mine cuts wet then dries and cuts again.

Gertie75 · 09/06/2021 14:53

I cut my own hair so have no experience of hairdressers and thought that washing twice meant it was washed, cut, then washed again!

Do people wash twice at home? I'm feeling like a right minger now for just shampooing once.

No, once is enough for most people unless they haven't used enough shampoo the first time or they have exceptionally dirty hair or do something that leaves a lot of residue.

The "and repeat" message on shampoo bottles is a well known scam/marketing thing which was just so they could sell more shampoo.

I have fine textured hair about shoulder length, I wash it every 2nd day and shampoo once with about a 50p sized blob of shampoo. I'll condition it every so often as it doesn't need it every time. Obviously everyone has different hair and washing routines but you only need to shampoo twice if it still feels dirty after the first one.

RichTeaCheddars · 09/06/2021 15:16

I've not been aware mine has been shampooed twice. But it's cut damp, dried and then cut again. Layers, fringe and a tidy up.

I'm not sure about the scissors though, but I wouldn't find it weird if I did hear the snip

IliveonCoffee · 09/06/2021 15:28

I've never had it shampooed twice (that I've noticed). I mean i just have my head back and normally close my eyes to avoid staring weirdly, so barely notice what they put on.

I'm struggling to remember (because I don't go very often) but they're more likely to put 2 conditioners on my frizz ball than two shampoos.

Generally they cut wet, but occasionally they've lopped some off before the first wash because it needed a good inch going, and is probably less to waste conditioner on.

How they blow dry it without it being a complete puff ball is always a miracle to me (still needs straightening though)

bondgirl76 · 10/06/2021 17:22

So my hairdresser washes just once.My hair is very dry tho.But cuts it wet...To style it..and cut it dry is odd.

EerieSilence · 10/06/2021 17:27

I had my shortened wet and then blow-dried and layered dry, because she needed to assess the thickness of the hair. I have lots of hair and the volume had to be reduced considerably. It worked and I heard the chops :D

gwenneh · 10/06/2021 17:34

My stylist does this, she trains with a particular top-level professional herself and that's the way that particular professional does it. It's washed and dried to get rid of any product/style I had in, then dry cut, then washed, dried and styled as normal.

Mamanyt · 10/06/2021 17:59

Having heard from a friend who works in the beauty products industry that the whole "rinse, repeat" is a ploy to sell more product, and totally unnecessary unless you work in a filthy environment (fry-cook,, etc), one wash would not disturb me. As for cutting dry, it depends entirely on the texture of your hair and the cut that you want. And I would (at least once) trust a trained hairdresser to make that choice.

Julia001 · 10/06/2021 18:03

@XiCi

Washed twice?? 2 shampoos or actually washed and dried twice? Sorry but this made me laugh. Just imagining having a wash and blow dry then being led back to the basin for wash 2 GrinGrin I'm sure the OP means the standard 2 shampoos and then conditioner
If you have a Brazilian Blowout , you have it washed , styled and cut (if required ) dried and a very hot straightener passed through a good few times and then , when it looks beautiful- it has to be washed and dried again (it only takes about 10 or 15 minutes that time though )
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 10/06/2021 18:31

Never knew dry cutting was a thing (other than budget cuts where the hair is sprayed damp and trimmed)

linsey2581 · 10/06/2021 18:34

My hairdresser colours my hair then washes and dries it then she cuts it when it’s dry. So much better

munchkinman · 10/06/2021 19:11

I go to Toni and Guy and they always do most of the cut dry. Do get two shampoos though.

nappysan · 10/06/2021 19:15

Strangely inexpensive!

woodhill · 10/06/2021 19:17

Should be washed twice and preferably wet cut. Fringe dried to see where it falls before cutting

MsPeachh · 10/06/2021 19:31

Never had my hair washed twice and my current hairdresser cuts my hair after blow drying because I have curly hair that I wear straight every day.

GameSetMatch · 10/06/2021 19:38

Was it Toni and Guy? They always cut long hair dry, apparently it’s better for long hair ??

OneMamaAndHerGirl · 10/06/2021 20:35

It depends on your type of hair and the cut. Some prefer to cut dry so they can see where your hair sits etc.

She should of shampooed it twice as the first wash lifts the dirt and the second wash removes it. Next time ask to be shampooed twice

Blueink · 10/06/2021 21:25

With the dry cut sounds like she was being careful not to cut too much off as ur growing out ur hair? Every hairdresser has their own practices, nothing odd but seems like u weren’t happy with it?
Ask for a 2nd shampoo “as it lasts longer”. Probably didn’t want to strip the hair by over washing and judged it was already clean. When had u washed it?

keffie12 · 10/06/2021 21:30

Have always had it washed twice , before its conditioned.

I have had my hair dried first before trimming when I had shorter edgy styles as they can see the shape better when dry for shorter edgy cuts.

My hair is longer now with fine layers. It is now cut wet then dried. My hairdressers always checks it over when dry again and snips any ends needed

I pay £44 and live in the the North in a university city. That's for cut, dry and straighten. When it's coloured it's £97

Nachteule · 10/06/2021 21:36

My hair is very thin and straight. It’s always washed twice at the hairdressers. At the moment it’s in a collarbone length blunt Bob with a fringe. He cuts most of it wet then dries it and cuts the fringe and goes over the rest doing little bits of scissoring. No idea what this is called but there’s about a third of the cut done once it’s it’s been dried.
