Currently in the process of selling my sofas, less than 12 months old and in pretty much immaculate condition. Cost over £3000 when bought!
Listed on a few selling sites and within 48 hrs had people asking why i’m selling for so expensive as they are second hand! They literally look brand new! Apparently i shouldn’t list as ‘like new’ as ive had them in my house!
How much would you be willing to pay for second hand sofas? 4seater, 3 seater and footstool?

£5-600 tops

Atalune · 06/06/2021 21:11

£500 I think

£2200 is madness!

mistermagpie · 06/06/2021 21:11

Way way too much. Max £500 if it was exactly what I wanted but you'd be looking at closer to £250 for second hand sofas on the sites I look at.

bloodyhell19 · 06/06/2021 21:11

£2200 for sofas that have been used for a year? Dream on. At a push for the whole set I might stretch to 600-700. YABVVVVVU with that price.

Catswithflamingos · 06/06/2021 21:13

Sofas are not something that hold their value. You bought them for your decor and your needs. If anything, buying your sofas is doing you a favour since you don’t have to take them to the tip

Tohaveandtohold · 06/06/2021 21:14

😂😂😂😂 at £2200 for second hand.
You’ll get a brand new sofa for less than that during their bank holiday sale.

Howshouldibehave · 06/06/2021 21:15

@mum2b2017

i had them listed for £2200! i see from the replies that i am being totally unrealistic!
Oh dear, yes!! Grin

£2200 is a lot of money for most people.

Spending that much, I would want something brand spanking new and exactly what I wanted-not something that’s had other people’s backsides on for a year!

Generally I’d go for a fair whack under half the price of what you paid to sell for second hand.

DaphneDuBois · 06/06/2021 21:16

I bought an ex-display John Lewis sofa for 50% off and it was immaculate. I think £500 is the max as well.

idontlikealdi · 06/06/2021 21:16

2200!!?!?

If I was lying that much I'd stump up the rest for new.

mum2b2017 · 06/06/2021 21:16

omg i paid more than that just for the footstool!

OP posts:
Darbs76 · 06/06/2021 21:18

Yep the 2nd hand sofa market is not great. Well not for the person selling anyway. You won’t get anywhere near what you’re selling them for

mum2b2017 · 06/06/2021 21:18

i genuinely didn’t know that sofas depreciated that much! most of the ones from the range i have are selling at similar prices for the individual pieces

OP posts:
mum2b2017 · 06/06/2021 21:18

i say that, i mean they are listed at those prices, no idea if they actually sell for that price

Aprilwasverywet · 06/06/2021 21:19

I had 2 x 4 seater sofas. Cost 1k each..
Moved and they wouldn't fit upstairs.. Lounge on 1st floor..had to wrap in tarpaulin and got £100 for both. Devastated tbh.

Scrumptiousbears · 06/06/2021 21:20

Don't forget people can also get finance deals when buying new. If someone has that sort of money cash they wouldn't go second had.

cardibach · 06/06/2021 21:20

@mum2b2017

omg i paid more than that just for the footstool!
A year ago. Since then it’s had feet on it every night for a year, and people sitting on the sofa. It’s not new. What you paid new is irrelevant I’m afraid.
mum2b2017 · 06/06/2021 21:20

sofology neverrrrrr have sales, apparently it’s one of the things the store prides themselves on (or so the salesman told me!)
apparently they price their items so well they never feel the need to put them on sale

mathswall · 06/06/2021 21:21

We bought a 3 and 2 seater a year or so old for 180 a few years ago. 2200 is way too high

Slankets · 06/06/2021 21:22

I would say a little more absolute max depending how much I liked them etc. maybe £750 for all 3 but yeah no where near £2200, I could buy new for that.

SwimBaby · 06/06/2021 21:23

I’d possibly pay up to £500 if it’s the perfect colour and fit etc. For £2200 I’d want the whole showroom experience where I can choose the fabric colours and sit on many sofas before I find the perfect one.

Duchess379 · 06/06/2021 21:23

I sold 2 Duresta 4 seater sofas from Furniture Village for £600. I'd paid £4k for them 5 yrs before..

mum2b2017 · 06/06/2021 21:23

shocking isn’t it! i dont think people appreciate the cost we pay for the quality

OP posts:
Imapotato · 06/06/2021 21:23

Maybe £200. I wouldn’t spend much on a second hand sofa.

I brought one that looked brand new 10 years ago for £40 abs still have it now!

HandfulofDust · 06/06/2021 21:23

Definitely too high op. I wouldn't pay that even if you'd literally changed your mind the first day you got them and never sat on them let alone after having been in your house for so long (even if they're in excellent condition).

Theunamedcat · 06/06/2021 21:24

Leave them up a couple of days see if you get an offer? Then knock it down till they sell?

People inboxing you complaining about the price are rude either haggle or scroll on
