I can't bear it!

My dd2 is 7 months old, and loves chewing on stuff. People seem to think it fine to allow her to chew on their fingers. It makes me cringe at the thought of where their hands have been.

I know I am probably being anal about it, and I know she will pick up God knows what off the floor etc. but there is just something about other people's fingers.

yanbu, it didn't bother me particularly but she's your baby so if it bothers you then say something!

I totally get this.

My dd is almost 8 months and some of the things she puts in her mouth at nursery are probably worse. But when friends hold her and allow her to chew thier fingers it makes me cringe.

Fortunately her teeth are coming in and she gives them a firm bite.

I have a floor cleaning gecko who is often found playing in the potty
(I do clean her up properly and move it btw)

BUT I wouldn't want people sticking their fingers in her mouth and equally I wouldn't do it to anyone elses baby

My mil did it yesterday which was bad enough, and then some random girl at dd1's gym class did it too.

I really don't like this either. I'm not really sure why. Perhaps I feel it's invasive. Nothing to do with germs. I'm a firm believer in the value of germs!

My MIL always seems to want to put her fingers in my children's mouths. I ask her not to do that, please. I get a black look but not to worry.

I'm sure if you asked people not to do it, Sexonlegs, they'd stop in a second.

It's all the late Princess Di's fault. There is a famous photo of her with finger in a baby's mouth. It was her own baby I think, but your MIL probably doesn't remember that bit.

Don't remember having the prob with any of mine, but then I had each one firmly clamped to my boob 90% of the time so other people's fingers didn't get a look in.

Could you do that Sexonlegs? Alternatively you could say, excuse me but could you sterilise that before it goes in my baby's mouth?

I don't mind if my mum does this or MIL but no-one else has even tried and I think it would be very weird
But then he normally has his own hand in his mouth anyway!

i remember my dads girlfriend put her finger in my babys mouth when she was only 4 days old and i shouted at her, maybe a bit over the top as she is still funny with me but i dont care as at 4 days old the only thin that should have been goin in her mouth was my nipple, dd is now 7 weeks and i would still go bananas if any1 put theif fingers in her mouth, its disgusting and theres no need to stick your finges in a babys mouth.

Exactly! I know/hope mil would be clean, but children.... I don't let dd1 put her fingers in dd2's mouth.

Christ, I'd've gone mad if anyone had done that to DS! Fortunately if they did it now he'd probably take their fingers off...
