Will your teenagers be taking the covid vaccine

DD is 16 and has said she won’t. I wondered with the Pfizer vaccine being approved for age 12-15 will your teens be taking the covid vaccine and are you leaving the decision to them?

DS is 13, has had all his regular vaccines so far. His Dad and I have had both Covid jabs. He isn't keen on getting the vaccine, we won't be forcing him to. I think it's far more important to get all adults and vulnerable people vaccinated in the UK and then try to help the rest of the world to do so. Whilst long Covid in children is a very real threat, it's not enough for me to force DS to have the jab. His school are still asking children to wear masks and we are all doing LFT's twice a week. This seems to be working at his school at least as there have been no cases since they've been back to school.

MarshaBradyo · 05/06/2021 08:26

And I can imagine sheep that have had the vaccine burying their head in the sand, and trusting the almighty politicians that they care about your long term health, and that the thousands of adverse reactions and ruined lives aren't really all that bad.
WAKE UP

Ha at these wake up posts. You and the other extreme should get together and shout wake up at each other. Leave the rest of us to it.

Flyonawalk · 05/06/2021 08:27

No.

As PP have said, these vaccines are unlicensed and there is no long term safety data. The risk posed by covid to teens does not justify taking a chance with their well-being.

Vaccination needs to benefit the subject as well as society. That is not the case here.

What has happened to adults protecting the young? It has been the reverse throughout the covid crisis, which I find morally wrong and unacceptable.

urghicba · 05/06/2021 08:27

Nope. I have 3 late teens and one on the way. They will not be having any covid vaccine.

I'm not anti-vaccine btw

LakieLady · 05/06/2021 08:32

@KaleSlayer

LongPauseNoAnswer

Most kids are not vaccinated and those things are now possible. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, and the Delta variant is spreading in schools, and outbreaks in schools are now the highest they have been since early December. Only 50% of the adult population have had both shots, and there's still 25% who haven't been vaccinated at all.

With the increased risk of hospital admission with the new variant, we could be seeing a rise in hospital cases any time soon.

I hope that those parents who won't get their teens vaccinated won't moan about it if/when more measures are taken to reduce transmission, and when they have to cancel their holidays.

Getting vaccinated is part of being a decent person who cares about others imo.

I'd dearly love to leave you vaccine morons to it. We'll see who was right when you have finished your guinea pig trials.

The same charming language - ‘morons’ etc

Both as bad as each other. What you shout at people online us irrelevant but you sound somewhat unhinged.

Zzelda · 05/06/2021 08:38

But she will be offered a covid jab, an illness that she will show no signs or symptoms for

How do you know that, @Sl33py? And, if that's correct, wouldn't you nevertheless prefer that she doesn't spread it around if or when she has the illness?

Clymene · 05/06/2021 08:39

Yes, just like they've had their meningitis and HPV jabs as teenagers. It should become a normal part of our preventative vaccination schedule

Zzelda · 05/06/2021 08:39

Yes, they're eager to have the vaccine.

sassbott · 05/06/2021 08:41

Nope. Not an anti vaxxer at any level.

  1. My DC are not at risk of death etc if they catch covid
  2. everyone who is being injected right now seems to ignore that these vaccines were fast tracked through under emergency measures and they are all in clinical trials until 2023. There is zero research/ knowledge on long term impact of these vaccines on the body/ fertility/ menstrual cycles (the list of potential risks is long)
  3. MRNA vaccines are new technology. None of the vaccines use tried and tested methodology. Everyone being vaccinated is part of a mass trial. Absolutely fine for the vulnerable (and remember the rhetoric in Dec/ Jan was simply to vaccinate the vulnerable...why has that goalpost been continually moved?). But why should perfectly healthy people/ young people/ children be injected with a trial drug when their risk of death/ side effects is negligible.

What bothers me is not the fact that people want to curse me and call me names for my stance. But the fact that so many are blindly following a narrative that
A) makes absolutely no sense
B) willing to inject their children without proper data on the long term health risks of said drug.

Someone up thread asked about the difference between MMR vaccines and these? MMR vaccines had been through full and comprehensive trials. Those diseases can also cause blindness, infertility and a whole host of life threatening problems in children. Covid (thus far) has not.

None of this makes any sense and I cannot fathom why so many people are blindly following a narrative so that they can wear a badge of honour of ‘doing their bit.’

LakieLady · 05/06/2021 08:43

@strawberrydonuts

Most teens I have spoken to want the vaccine, just like most adults do.
That's my experience too. I have 6 nieces and nephews, age range 12-25. They all want to be vaccinated, and the oldest 3 have already made arrangements to have their first ones.

It's heartening that so many young people are being so responsible imo.

Flyonawalk · 05/06/2021 08:43

What @sassbott said.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 05/06/2021 08:45

Definitely not.

Rockbird · 05/06/2021 08:45

My 13yo said no when I asked yesterday. But that was on the spot and she doesn't really know much about it. She has severe anxiety and has avoided the news for the last year. I'll have a proper talk with her to put it in language she understands but ultimately it's her decision at 13. I hope she makes the right choice, I cartwheeled to both my appts I was so happy so not anti vaccs at all.

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/06/2021 08:48

Dd1 has already had hers, but she's 21 so not a teen anymore.

Dd2 is 11 and will have it next year. She sort of said "oh, next year seems a long time to wait, I wish it was sooner". She is of the opinion that the sooner she's vaccinated the sooner she'll have her normal life back. Not that her life is massively impacted by the current restrictions, most of her things are unaffected.

KaleSlayer · 05/06/2021 08:54

I hope that those parents who won't get their teens vaccinated won't moan about it if/when more measures are taken to reduce transmission, and when they have to cancel their holidays.

Nope. I won’t be moaning. But I will be leaving the decision to my teens.

Getting vaccinated is part of being a decent person who cares about others imo.

I’m a ‘decent’ person. Or is vaccine uptake the measure of decent people now. 🙄

KaleSlayer · 05/06/2021 08:57

I'd dearly love to leave you vaccine morons to it.

Unnecessary. Reported.

sassbott · 05/06/2021 09:01

@user1494055864 it is unnecessary.

People have a right to choice, those who feel this is the right thing to do have every right to that choice. And to not be name called.

As do those who (like myself) decide to not have the vaccines at this stage for the reasons outlined.
There is zero need for name calling either way.

JustMeAndWheatley · 05/06/2021 09:02

Yes.

Both my teens said last week that they hoped a vaccine would get approved and offered to them.

itsgettingwierd · 05/06/2021 09:03

I'd take the POV of the total anti vaxers and even the insults such as "vaccine morons" far more seriously if these were long term users and not just someone who's signed up and has "userxxxxxxx" as a surname to spam the boards with their inflammatory language 🤷‍♀️

So, if or when you prove to be wrong, @user1494055864, will you be coming on here to admit it?

Packitupwillya · 05/06/2021 09:13

I would prefer mine not to but I’ll leave it up to them.
