Will your teenagers be taking the covid vaccine

DD is 16 and has said she won’t. I wondered with the Pfizer vaccine being approved for age 12-15 will your teens be taking the covid vaccine and are you leaving the decision to them?

lightlypoached · 05/06/2021 05:26

Yes, and they've been vaccinated already. No hesitation whatsoever.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 05/06/2021 05:32

Yes, sure, as long as they want to have it.

PhilCornwall1 · 05/06/2021 05:32

If they weren't keen, it would be 'tough you're having it' unless they could come up with a convincing argument.

And how would you make them have it, tie them down and inject them yourself?

Endofether · 05/06/2021 05:34

My19 year old doesn’t want to have it

16 year old undecided

I will be declining for my 12 year old

Roonerspismed · 05/06/2021 05:57

Amazed. Amazed at this thread.

Have decided I am quite mad. Absolutely no way mine will until I see longer term data. Can’t understand why any parent would want it for their teens. Can’t understand why we aren’t vaccinating more vulnerable adults across the works instead.

As an aside we have very little knowledge of longer term effects of mRNA vaccines. Autoimmunity is main concern but the menstrual irregularities and myocarditis also need more data. Can’t understand why more people aren’t hugely bothered about this

haymade · 05/06/2021 06:26

I'm completely aghast too Roonerspismed. Utterly gobsmacked.

"Dd9 would refuse it as needle phobic. I would restrain her for it if it was offered to her"

"If they weren't keen, it would be 'tough you're having it' unless they could come up with a convincing argument."

I have had the vacc myself so not a looney anti vaxxer but what the actual hell?? 😪😪

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/06/2021 06:29

Autoimmunity is main concern
I’m with you there. I wouldn’t want my Dd to have it even if she wanted it. Due to my health.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 05/06/2021 06:31

Good lord the anti vaxxers are batshit. Andrew Wakefield should be charged with reckless endangerment.

All of us are fully vaccinated including my DD who is 19.

KaleSlayer · 05/06/2021 06:35

I think people have got carried away. 😬

People saying they’d restrain their kids and make teens have the vaccine against their will, it’s absolutely mad.

Also I find it slightly strange when people say their kids are excited to have the vaccine. Excited? Really? And so many mumsnet kids wanted to be part of the trials.....😬 My kids hardly talk about covid or vaccines, they’re just doing as much normal stuff as they can, I’d find it really bloody weird if they were asking to be on vaccine trials and thinking so much about covid.

TeenMinusTests · 05/06/2021 06:36

In the UK it isn't a done deal yet that under 18s will be offered it as standard even though various ones are approved. There are ethical considerations between using vaccines to immunise our children versus making them available for adults in more in need countries.

Anyway, I would be delighted if my 16yo were vaccinated before she starts at a large 6th form college in September.

Northernsoullover · 05/06/2021 06:39

My nearly 16 year old would have it tomorrow. My nearly 18 year old is counting down the weeks until he can have it.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 05/06/2021 06:42

Also I find it slightly strange when people say their kids are excited to have the vaccine. Excited? Really?

Yes, really excited. Excited because it’s hope, it’s light at the end of an 18 month tunnel, it’s in person classes for my DD for the first time. Excited because it means seeing both sets of grandparents (we live abroad) in over a year. Excited because cinemas and theatres will reopen and they can go to music festivals again. Yes, excited sums it up nicely.

plinkplinkfizzer · 05/06/2021 06:43

Wow I am really impressed with teens keen to do their bit and have their vaccines . Obviously some have vulnerabilities which will make them more keen .
My sons are not teens anymore but they are keen .
You all must be very proud of your teens .

KaleSlayer · 05/06/2021 06:45

LongPauseNoAnswer

Most kids are not vaccinated and those things are now possible. 🤷🏻‍♀️

strawberrydonuts · 05/06/2021 06:46

Most teens I have spoken to want the vaccine, just like most adults do.

MarshaBradyo · 05/06/2021 06:48

Yes Ds age 16 will

Nappyvalley15 · 05/06/2021 06:50

When top paediatricians are urging caution it is surprising how many are keen to have their young healthy teens vaccinated.

I don't count school closures as a benefit as they should not be happening when adults have been vaccinated.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/06/2021 06:52

@LongPauseNoAnswer
Where are the anti vaxxers on this thread? I have an autoimmune condition due to 2 prescription drugs, which combined have ruined my life. After the reaction I had and am still having to the covid jab, it is understandable I am wary for my dd.

ftm202020 · 05/06/2021 06:57

No, I don't give my children the flu vaccine either. They have had all their other jabs (MMR etc). Such a small chance of my children getting seriously ill from the flu or covid so we don't bother. My eldest two both have asd and really freak out with needles and medical procedures so try and keep such things to absolute essentials.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 05/06/2021 06:59

I don’t get it.
Surely it’s better that teens get Covid and get their immunity that way, given a minuscule percentage get ill from it.
They can have a jab later when the risks of Covid are more prevalent.

If all adults are jabbed the spread and risks of complications must be lower. Surely the rest of the adult world being jabbed is more important?

kindlekeeper · 05/06/2021 07:07

Mine aren’t keen. They’ve all had Covid and aren’t concerned about having it again. The messaging Isn’t great as vaccinated people are still as restricted and travel bans show little faith in the vaccines so they see little point in taking the very small risk.

HazeyJaneII · 05/06/2021 07:11

My dd's (15 and 14) want it - their brother was shielding for most of the year. We are hoping ds might get it off licence as he is 11.

Fastforwardtospring · 05/06/2021 07:17

Yep DS 17 can’t wait, he’s a social butterfly and has no wish to be locked down again with social media as only way of contact. DD 12 haven’t had conversation yet.

CovidCorvid · 05/06/2021 07:24

Mine has but she's in Group 6, so vulnerable.

A friends teenagers have had it and they're not vulnerable but were happy to have it

FoolsAssassin · 05/06/2021 07:25

17 year has decided he will be having it.
