Second vaccine, live alone, preparations

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 03/06/2021 18:14

Had my second jab this afternoon, live alone. Have set up by the bed bottles of water, fruit, phones and charger. Just in case. Aibu, or at least over the top? Was fine after first jab.

Really??

0blio · 03/06/2021 18:19

I had absolutely no side effects from my first jab but felt dreadful for a few days after the second.

Look after yourself (don't forget the painkillers).

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 03/06/2021 18:20

Just crack on as normal

NannyR · 03/06/2021 18:20

Seems a bit OTT? I live on my own and haven't thought of doing anything like that. I was fine after my first jab, but from what I've heard about people who did get a reaction, they weren't that sick that they couldn't get out of bed to get a drink.

0blio · 03/06/2021 18:20

I take it you haven't had yours Wanda Hmm

Mumof1andacat · 03/06/2021 18:21

I was straight back to work after mine for the rest of the day....

WildWestWanda · 03/06/2021 18:22

I take it you haven't had yours Wanda Hmm
I’ve had both.
0blio · 03/06/2021 18:23

OP, of course this is mumsnet and you'll have posters telling you they climbed mount everest in their lunchbreak after they had their jabs.
I carried on working but wish now I hadn't. If I have to have a booster I'll be booking the day off and going back to bed!

MadeOfStarStuff · 03/06/2021 18:24

I mean it doesn’t hurt anyone so crack on if it makes you feel better but it’s a bit OTT!

Even if you have side effects it would most likely just be a bit of a sore arm and minor flu like symptoms, you’d hardly be bed ridden!

IntoAir · 03/06/2021 18:25

YANBU. When you live alone, you need to plan. I cancelled anything I was doing (other than wfh) the day after my 2nd vax (Pfizer). I felt a bit shabby the next morning, and I'm glad I didn't have to rush about to meetings etc & could take it at my own pace. I was fine 24 hours (by that afternoon) but you never know. People who don't live alone don't realise (or don't bother to think) what it can be like.

ComDummings · 03/06/2021 18:26

I was fine after my second. Even after my first I only felt a bit tired. I’m sure you’ll be fine! I think as long as you have access to paracetamol and water you’ve covered all bases.

Prisonbreak · 03/06/2021 18:28

What!?

Hockney236 · 03/06/2021 18:28

I felt a absolutely fine after my second. Like you I’d prepped for disaster, but I was absolutely fine. I did take preventative paracetamol tho. 2 before the jab and then another 3 doses during the day. I felt a wee bit rough after the first jab, but nothing hideous. I had AZ. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be fine :)

AlternativePerspective · 03/06/2021 18:29

Completely OTT.

While some people do have some side effects, IMO if you plan to be ill then psychologically you’ll be waiting for something to happen, then every ache, every twinge, if you feel a bit hot just because it’s summer you’ll be convincing yourself that it’s because of the vaccine.

Just carry on as normal, and if you have any particular side effects you can face them as and when.

DelphiniumBlue · 03/06/2021 18:29

You might feel very tired/fatigued. Make sure you've got some easily available snacks. But really, it's nothing to be too concerned about - a day loafing around on the sofa should see you alright!

Hockney236 · 03/06/2021 18:29

Ha! This! People are so horrible
Golden2021 · 03/06/2021 18:31

Def paracetamol and actual food. Cosy dressing gown for chills. I couldn't really get out of bed. But that was first AZ.

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 03/06/2021 18:33

Into Air that's it. When you live alone, there's no one to bring you a glass of water if you wake in the middle of the night feeling rough. Most likely I'll just get up and go to work. I'm 60 and have never had a day off sick in my entire working life. I do always catastrophise though!

IntoAir · 03/06/2021 18:35

I had pretty much no side effects for my 1st jab (both Pfizer) except for a sore delt - I just didn't put my arm above my head for 2 days. But the 2nd one (I had quite late in the day) I was quite cold that night even with the heating on.

So who knows. I hope things go well for you, @ThatSchoolOfficeLady and that you find that your prep is not needed. But I understand why you want to prepare - anyone with a bit of empathy or imagination would understand.

PiuVinoPerFavore · 03/06/2021 18:36

I had my second AZ jab today. I had no symptoms for the first one and anecdotal evidence says that first is worst. I think you're overthinking this. Make sure you've got some paracetamol just in case but no reason to think you'll be as ill as you are preparing for.

IntoAir · 03/06/2021 18:38

Yeah, I'm over 60 - I get quite ill with just an "ordinary" cold - it's never "just" a cold for me. So I get the prep thing - if I feel that horrible tickle at the back of my throat, I set up y bedside with as much junk food as I think I can stomach (I generally don't want to eat but my GP said I should get quick sugar hits when I'm fighting off a virus) , lemon & ginger tea, about 3 rolls of soft loo paper, and then just suffer it out. If it lasts more than 2 weeks, I get steroids.

I hope it's easy for you & you sail through! Flowers

PiuVinoPerFavore · 03/06/2021 18:39

How did you feel after 2nd AZ jab? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4261171-How-did-you-feel-after-2nd-AZ-jab

Here is another thread doing the rounds now. It seems reactions are not as bad second time around. Hope you're ok.

Geepee71 · 03/06/2021 18:40

Food, no snacks (Ignoring the fruit), where's the chocolate?

slashlover · 03/06/2021 18:41

I bought some paracetamol because I realised the ones I had were out of date and that was it.

ohitssuchaperfectday · 03/06/2021 18:42

I couldn’t get out of bed after mine - temp of 39.7 and not well at all . Spent three days in bed . However I’d had surgery 12 hours before, and GP did say several times I should not have been given the vaccine when I did - everyone else I know has been absolutely fine .
