Second vaccine, live alone, preparations

Had my second jab this afternoon, live alone. Have set up by the bed bottles of water, fruit, phones and charger. Just in case. Aibu, or at least over the top? Was fine after first jab.

You are being OTT but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Dh has the AZ jab and I gave him paracetamol regularly it helped with the sore arm and thankfully he didn't get any other symptoms and he is known for being a drama queen. I had the Pfizer jab yesterday and am 27 weeks pregnant, I took paracetamol initially and kept well hydrated. I had a bit of an achy arm but was otherwise fine and got on with my day.

People react differently, rest if you feel you need to, take paracetamol and drink plenty of water. Hope your second jab goes smoothly for you.

Can't be bothered to read the thread but this is madness.
Hmmm, your well thought out and considered arguments have completely changed my mind on this one.Hmm
wonkylegs · 04/06/2021 08:15

I felt awful for 24hrs after first
Had second this Tuesday and have been completely ok since apart from mild ache in arm yesterday afternoon.

IntoAir · 04/06/2021 08:19

Glad you’re feeling fine @ThatSchoolOfficeLady and off to work! I’m sorry there’s been such unkindness on this thread. I put it down to lack of imagination.

BertramLacey · 04/06/2021 08:29

Thanks @HomeSliceKnowsBest, I'll bear that in mind. I'm certainly not going into work just after it's done - I'm self employed and choose which shifts to do so can opt out. I was shaking like a leaf after the first one and had a fever all night.

Call it the placebo effect or the media blowing it out of proportion if you will, but working through flu-type symptoms is not good and I think they would have been much reduced had I just been at home and able to take it easy.

user1471538283 · 04/06/2021 09:01

I think it is sensible just in case. Nothing is over the top when you live alone!

I've had mine and I am exhausted. Able to make a cup of tea and I am working but I could do with being in bed. The first jab knocked me off my trotters.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 04/06/2021 09:55

Completely over the top but whatever makes you more comfortable.

LividBlabber · 04/06/2021 12:17

Anecdata here.

I had AZ along with my friendship group and 80% of us had “day off work” or “wish I was off work” style side effects from first jab.

All my friends and family who had Pfizer first were fine.

(Dunno anyone our age who’s had two yet).

I wonder if all the dismissive types on here are either much older (fewer hormonal side effects???) or had Pfizer first?

I’ve heard AZ is worst first and Pfizer worst second.

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 13:56

I had AZ and the first wasn’t good afterwards while the second was fine. The bloke had Pfizer and felt fine after both jabs. I think it comes down to us all being different.

Lougle · 04/06/2021 14:00

At the vaccination centre yesterday, I was told that AZ was worse first time than second, and Pfizer was worse second time than first.

I had a banging migraine and was quite washed out with my first AZ. I had my second AZ yesterday and I woke with a migraine in the early hours, but not as bad as last time. I'm tired, but that could be the interrupted sleep.

thereisonlyoneofme · 04/06/2021 14:05

Wh at, Ive just had a major op and live alone and I didnt do this !

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 04/06/2021 15:28

Great day at work, got a ton of stuff done and if anything have had more energy post jab. I'm self aware enough to know this mad forward planning for the worst case scenario is a personal quirk. It surprises most folk as I'm also a cheerful optimist and utterly self-reliant. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Thank you to all those with kind words and understanding attitudes Flowersx

Madness is a tad strong. I've seen madness and I'm pretty sure this is not it. 🤣

It does. My MIL had to take to her bed after the second Pfizer. No issues at all after the first.

Well, at least you aren't "terrified".

shivawn · 04/06/2021 16:21

Wow you really were prepared for the worst. We vaccinate all the patients on my ward where I work and I've only seen 2 get sick the next day. Majority of people will be absolutely fine.

Focalpoint · 04/06/2021 19:55

I had no side effects from first Pfizer. Had second yesterday and have been completed wiped out with fatigue today. Took 2 paracetamol this morning and have done a lot of sleeping today. Cancelled everything I had planned.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/06/2021 20:03

I had AZ

I was a bit fluey the day after the first jab, but completely fine after the second.

RedHelenB · 04/06/2021 20:11

Had my second jab yesterday and felt way worse than I did after my fall. Felt all faint and sick and had to lie down in the hallway before managing to crawl upstairs. Bern sleeping off and on all today and only now starting to feel a little better.

RedHelenB · 04/06/2021 20:12

Should read after my first, not after my fall

reluctantbrit · 04/06/2021 20:30

Resonable in my opinion. Both. DH and I were down with flu-like symptoms after the first AZ jab, DH was first and we kind of prepared for it in a way that work knew, we had easy to sort out food and plenty of drinks around. We were down for 18 hours with either shivers or feeling hot, sleeping and feeling absolutely awful.

If I would be on my own I wouldn't trust "you will be fine" but would at least make sure someone knew about it, would have phone/laptop charged and drinks nearby. Best case scenario - not needed. Worst case, I don't have to worry about anything.

We deliberately didn't book the second jab on the same day as we wanted to make sure one of us is fit to deal with DD.

I was more than once ill when DH was on a business trip, not needing to go through the house. while feeling faint and having temperature to sort out a drink or medication is always a bonus.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 04/06/2021 23:01

DS is 17 but has had both doses because he has SEN so considered vulnerable. He was VERY tired the day after each jab (Pfizer) but DH and I were fine after both AZ jabs.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 05/06/2021 07:33

@Dangleclack I'm confused. I was really poorly- thermometer stated my temperature so I know it wasn't in my head, but I didn't tell anyone so why would anyone report it!!!

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 05/06/2021 11:23

Just to add, I'm not anxious about health or anxious in general really. I just plan ahead for various eventualities all the time as a matter of course. I'm pretty relaxed in every other way. Being like this gives me an edge in my work. To all those feeling rough after jabs Flowers
