First time getting baylage in my hair and I showed pictures and explicitly said “I do not want it light. I want darkest brown on my hair”. I even showed picture I hated and he understood I want the sections dark not light. I well I’ve come home with really light brown /blonde/ gingery sections in my hair! He even admitted it was very light and has offered me to come back next week and he will fix it. I know it’s not a huge deal in Scheme of things but is this what can happen? Not really much experience of colouring my hair. Got done from large chain of hairdressers well known, do things like this happen when colouring your hair? I thought I was safe as I showed him exactly what I wanted and what I definitely didn’t want and what I’ve come home with is what I didn’t want!

Is this what balayage is always like?!

A million times, no. This sounds nuts, a terrible hairdresser. Complain

HOkieCOkie · 30/05/2021 21:54

I like it if I’m honest, but if your paying money you want it like you’ve asked. Hopefully he can fix it.

EmeraldShamrock · 30/05/2021 21:56

I love it.

Theunamedcat · 30/05/2021 22:32

Its actually nothing like what you want so no you shouldn't be paying for them to "fix it"

Babygotblueyes · 30/05/2021 22:50

Bleaching your hair is always a bit unpredictable and you never know how colour is going to lift until you do it. Even then, I have had the same bleach from the same hairdresser and a different result. All you can do is fix it.

HaveringWavering · 30/05/2021 22:58

@HaveringWavering

Slight thread hijack here so first, OP, what you got looks nice but agree not what you asked for but sounds like it can be fixed, which is great.

I had balayage for the second time in my life yesterday. I’d had years and years of foil highlights but with them finally having grown out during lockdown I thought I’d try something a bit more subtle and lower maintenance. I remembered balayage about 10 years ago where the hairdresser very gently painted bleach through my hair. Nice and relaxing I thought…OMG I was so wrong. This one back combed each section of my hair before applying the bleach and it was effing agony. I had tears down my cheeks from the pain (despite telling her it hurt) and at the end my hair was all matted and tangled so it took the junior ages to get it smooth after washing out the toner. Even with a tangle teezer and a shedload of detangling stuff. Today my scalp is still tender. The colour is pretty meh too.

Is this what balayage is always like?! The salon I went to is not a chain, but it is at the more expensive end and gets rave reviews for its colour work.

You can see at the front how matted it all ended up after the back combing.

@HaveringWavering

I would be putting in a big complaint to the hairdresser. That is NOT balayage!

Bumzoo · 30/05/2021 23:42

I prefer the one you wanted but maybe your hair looks okay too.

shas19 · 30/05/2021 23:47

He should have toned it... get some purple shampoo, john freida is good.

pilates · 31/05/2021 07:58

I prefer the one you wanted, I hope you get it sorted.

EmeraldShamrock · 31/05/2021 08:03

Your hair is beautiful the length and wave. I hope he fixes the colour of your choice.

EmeraldShamrock · 31/05/2021 08:04

@HaveringWavering That looks painful.

That’s not OP’s hair she used an internet pic to illustrate.

The first picture is lovely imo. You definitely shouldn’t have to pay to rectify their mistakes but tbh I’d keep it just as it is.

This is how it came out. Is that what you’d expect from balayage? It was mid-dark brown when I went in. I thought would be less of an all over colour.

@HaveringWavering
Yes that’s a balayage but there are so many variations of what a balayage should look like !

Did u have a picture for reference? X

EmeraldShamrock · 31/05/2021 13:31

That’s not OP’s hair she used an internet pic to illustrate. 🤣 silly me.
@HaveringWavering Keep conditioning it the colour is lovely no pain no gain.
