First time getting baylage in my hair and I showed pictures and explicitly said “I do not want it light. I want darkest brown on my hair”. I even showed picture I hated and he understood I want the sections dark not light. I well I’ve come home with really light brown /blonde/ gingery sections in my hair! He even admitted it was very light and has offered me to come back next week and he will fix it. I know it’s not a huge deal in Scheme of things but is this what can happen? Not really much experience of colouring my hair. Got done from large chain of hairdressers well known, do things like this happen when colouring your hair? I thought I was safe as I showed him exactly what I wanted and what I definitely didn’t want and what I’ve come home with is what I didn’t want!

Perhaps you should show what you wanted vrs what you got

Kitkat214 · 30/05/2021 18:29

Thank you for Saying it doesnt look bad! I feel a little better until I get it changed. So it doesn’t look ridiculous due to the contrast of light hair on back hair?

Footloosefancyfree · 30/05/2021 18:30

The hair you actually got was fair nicer and better than what you wanted tbh.

lioncitygirl · 30/05/2021 18:30

But that’s what baylage is. Look - you don’t like it. He’s offered to fix it - it’ll be fine after.

Kitkat214 · 30/05/2021 18:31

Thanks footloose! I think I wanted subtle. I’m sure this will grow on me in time but was just a shock seeing all that light colours

Stevearnottsbeard · 30/05/2021 18:31

I like the colour you up loaded

lavenderandwisteria · 30/05/2021 18:35

I think both are lovely but it’s your hair and you should have it as you wanted.

It er wasn’t Toni and Guy, was it ...?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/05/2021 18:37

I like it.

Kitkat214 · 30/05/2021 18:37

@lavenderandwisteria yes! Lol

hopingtochangeeachtime · 30/05/2021 18:37

I'd leave it you'll get used to it, it's just a shock colouring, especially if you don't do it often. I think the picture looks nice.

lavenderandwisteria · 30/05/2021 18:38

Oh god I had a horrible haircut from them years ago and paid nearly £65 for it!

Kitkat214 · 30/05/2021 18:39

I’m just worried it will get lighter as he said it will get lighter over time. That’s why if it was darker (like I wanted) I wouldn’t worry about it but as it’s so light now I dread to think what it will look like in few weeks

MootMoot · 30/05/2021 18:39

Balayage is freehand bleach painting.

So I think what you asked for was confusing. You actually wanted streaks of darker colour? That's not balayage.

Kitkat214 · 30/05/2021 18:42

@MootMoot I didn’t use word baylage. I showed a picture of what I wanted and he said baylage. I don’t get hair coloured so didn’t know the terms. Even when booking I explained I don’t know what I want but will show pictures

Cushionsnotpillows · 30/05/2021 18:45

The first photo is much nicer than the second photo IMO.

Bluetrews25 · 30/05/2021 18:45

I like it! Seriously, it's lovely.
If you wanted something where you can hardly tell that it is different from what you walked in with, why did you go to get it (so expensively) done in the first place?
Do you really not like it, or is it just that it is different?

SilverDragonfly1 · 30/05/2021 18:47

I agree it looks very nice. I think the thing you wanted is called lowlights- hair is lightened, then dyed shades of brown or red.

Veryverycalmnow · 30/05/2021 18:48

I think it's lovely and a lot more interesting than the plain dark brown. More summery

Londontown12 · 30/05/2021 18:49

He’s just used the wrong toner that’s all ! The only way to get lighter brown hair is to bleach and tone and over time it will get lighter ! It just needs to be retoned with the colour u asked for. Xx

Kitkat214 · 30/05/2021 18:50

Thank you all! Yes he did say darker toner.

@Hairobsessed123 (love the name btw!) he said I can get toner next week or glossed over. What does glossed over mean?

chaosrabbitland · 30/05/2021 18:52

@Kitkat214

It keeps crashing as I’m uploading. Will try later. If doesn’t work now
well i think this looks really nice . id be happy if this was my hair
EarringsandLipstick · 30/05/2021 18:54

Why on Earth don't you post a picture of your actual hair? It's hardly going to be identifying!

Then people can give an informed opinion.

bloodyhell19 · 30/05/2021 18:54

Is your hair dyed black or is it naturally black? If the former, that's very hard to lighten to the level you requested in the one go. Either way, it's easily fixable with the right toner - and easier to tone darker than brighter tbh. I still think it looks nice!

Darbs76 · 30/05/2021 18:55

I think it’s nice

bpirockin · 30/05/2021 18:57

I love the picture you've posted - it's not what I'd call ballyage, but I really like it.
