To think William and Kate are currently over exposed

Why do we need to keep seeing them everywhere? The more I see them trying to convey their perfect Boden lives the more I find it irritating. I think their PR people seem to have gone into overdrive

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/05/2021 21:46

@CathyorClaire

it sounds like Charles will do, is open up all royal palaces to us the public, then, massively scale down the royals like they did in Europe

Both moves calculated to play well with the plebs without impacting his own opulent lifestyle one iota.

Exactly this

Considering the new and little publicised deal is that the Sovereign Grant can only go up and never down, I'd be interested in what he plans to do with the money if this "slimming down" happens

misspattylacosta · 27/05/2021 21:52

they do so much good
Confused

such as ... what?!

WisconsinRaw · 27/05/2021 22:00

All the PR bumpf about clothes and meeting sick kids.

Meanwhile William held secret political meetings (despite not being allowed to be political), censored Channel 4 from airing footage over that secret meeting, and Channel 4 has issued a statement publicly accusing Kensington Palace of telling lies and making false allegations in order to bully and censor the press.

@KeflavikAirport

a little girl who has been seriously ill had a lovely time

She’s have had a lovely time with someone dressed as Elsa too, and it wouldn’t have cost the country millions.

Meeting Kate didn’t cost the country millions either.
Blossomtoes · 27/05/2021 22:14

Putting a stop to an outdated and ridiculous institution would benefit everyone

This is the second time you’ve said this but you still won’t say how it would benefit anyone.

They usually go quiet when they go on holiday abroad. It was reported in the foreign press that they went to the Caribbean over the Christmas holidays.

KFleming · 27/05/2021 22:34

The royals did show they have no role, no use during the Brexit debacle, and even worst during the Pandemic. That would have been their time to shine.

What do you mean no use during brexit? No use to what? What did you want to see them do? Brexit isn’t something for them to involve themselves in.

Nanalisa60 · 27/05/2021 22:45

Well Kate made a little girl very happy today!! And you know what, it put a smile on my face.

But tomorrow we will hear about how terrible life has been for Harry, and how his wife has suffered!! And Oprah will just keep nodding her head, at this weeks winging session!!

mustlovegin · 27/05/2021 23:28

The Royals are part of our traditions, whether some like it or not.

The interest they generate translates into masses of revenue for the UK (which more than covers their upkeep). Think of tourism alone.

Of course some would prefer an Armageddon scenario, so that they could eliminate all national symbols, so that they could 'start from scratch'

ScienceSensibility · 28/05/2021 03:20

Is that you, Meghan?

KeflavikAirport · 28/05/2021 06:08

Oh do drop the tourism argument. It’s such rubbish.

CathyorClaire · 28/05/2021 07:38

I've already asked for hard figures on this. Maybe you can provide them?

It works. You just have to look at other countries to see how

Abiutba thrd if all countries are monarchies.

It works, you just have to look at other countries to see how. Start with Scandinavia.

Neither monarchs nor ceremonial presidents have had anything to do with politics, pandemic etc. And the presence/absence of a ceremonial head of state does not seem in any way correlated to how the country does

(dictatorships generally do badly, but as word often does not get out beyond national borders, we can't be totally sure - of Population Review's list of 50 countries which most fit the definition of dictatorship, only 8 are monarchies (including sheikhdoms) which means they are underrepresented)

Pottedpalm · 28/05/2021 08:04

@misspattylacosta
Quite how would they take ‘their time to shine’ during the pandemic? If they stepped out the door they would be accused of breaking lockdown; they couldn’t undertake their usual tasks but had a go on Zoom, like the rest of us. Damned if they do ...

KarensChoppyGob · 28/05/2021 08:13

Nothing will take away from the history, culture/ places of interest embedded in ancient cities like London. The history will always be there, to be tapped into and understood, visited and admired.

Paris and New York (for example) don't exactly suffer -touristically - from their lack of royals.

phoenixrosehere · 28/05/2021 08:27

Is that you, Meghan?

Seriously. And people moan about Harry yet this always seems to be some posters comments. How adult of you. 🙄

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 09:39

Pottedpalm

I am sure they could have done a lot more than "nothing". They are the ones who are supposed to care and cheering the country up, not me Grin

A couple of zoom calls and a handful of inspiring photos is taking the piss. Even Brooklyn Beckham is a photographer these days!

Unless you count disregarding the advice to stay home instead of rushing to your holiday home (I don't even blame them for that, but talk about an example!), ignoring the guidelines and organising meet ups with family and friends - as seen in the press, and just showing up to take the kids to panto and disappear again.

Nohomemadecandles · 28/05/2021 09:52

@misspattylacosta you say 'useless during the pandemic' but there does seem to be quite a lot of people who take some comfort & joy in them. (I'm not one!) And that can't be dismissed really. It isn't just the flag shaggers either.
For some people, they are worth every penny. And, as much as I'd barely notice if they combusted overnight, those people's views matter too.

CathyorClaire · 28/05/2021 10:20

they couldn’t undertake their usual tasks but had a go on Zoom, like the rest of us

A quick check of the Court Circular at any point during lockdown reveals their various engagements mostly as the odd morning or afternoon Zoom call ,telephone call or video call with unexplained days occasionally weeks in-between to recover.

Even Uncle Andy managed to pack cupcakes for NHS workers albeit more in the interests of his own PR than public-mindedness

Blossomtoes · 28/05/2021 10:21

Have you worked out how abolishing the monarchy would benefit the country yet @misspattylacosta?

PlanetOfTheApesLives · 28/05/2021 10:22

I see and hear more of the whinging little brother

Blossomtoes · 28/05/2021 10:24

@PlanetOfTheApesLives

And yet OP says they’re over exposed. 🤷‍♀️

That just proves that they cannot win.

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 10:30

Blossomtoes
don't be goady, would save us a fortune for a start and the tourist industry will benefit massively too. Funny how revenues increase when tourist can actually (pay to) visit Palace and castles...

Care to let us know what benefit they actually bring the country if you are that keen on keeping them?
Why do we need an hereditary head of State in 2021?
