This (Cummings testimony) is starting to sound like a proper set up.

People were joking last year that Hancock would be made the fall guy for everything.

OP posts:
CrotchetyQuaver · 27/05/2021 00:01

I do know the security issue at DC London home referred to today is true. I got told that last year by someone in a position to know and long before the barnard castle saga blew up in the media.

He's a slimy backstabbing creep from what I've seen and agree with other posters, perhaps Carrie got the measure of him and insisted he went. She was right!

He's in all this covid shit up to his neck as the prime minister' senior adviser in the run up and early days. I think there's a lot of deflecting going on here.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 27/05/2021 00:16

I knew MH would be the fall guy from the off.

DC, BJ and MH are pretty much as bad as each other in my opinion.

Funny how nothings been said about RS though!

Pixxie7 · 27/05/2021 05:37

I am sorry but I don’t see it as being thrown under the bus, but more a matter of being held to account for his mistakes. He happily took the prestige and salary that goes with the job if he couldn’t cope he should have said so. Sorry no sympathy.

Bluntness100 · 27/05/2021 05:50

The issue Cummings has is many people, myself included, are thinking this is largely down to sour grapes becayse he’s out of a job. When he was in employment he was happy enough to work for them.

However on saying that, i suspect there is an element of truth in what he’s saying, but he’s likely taking a lot out of context and trying to present it in such a way to make it look as bad as possible.

I don’t think he’s doing himself any favours and the person coming out of it worst is him .

It reminds me a bit of prince Harry, he’s on the attack right now too.slagging off his family at every opportunity. Because he too is out of a job.

Boys and their egos..

SpeedRunParent · 27/05/2021 05:56

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil

Everyone knew he would be out of his depth when he got that job. But he over estimated his abilities ,was so keen to please and smarm up to Johnson and Cummings. Plus he is a former Remainer.

The perfect patsy.

Johnson is also a former remainer
Tavannach · 27/05/2021 05:57

Remember the very lovely photo op of DC with his little box of belongings after leaving No.10?

A nice example of the pitiful photo ops Johnson encourages.
I remember reading at the time that Cummings didn’t have an office at no. 10. His office was elsewhere. So whose stuff was Dom nicking?
It just doesn’t work - the narrative behind this man who was sacked a month before he was due to leave is too contrived.

jgw1 · 27/05/2021 06:00

@aquashiv

Once again Johnson stumbles out of the burning building with a smile.
Does he? I have always had the impression that one thing that is really important to Johnson is his place in history. Judging by my run along a canal at the weekend that is where a lot of out of control shopping trolleys end up.
Jente · 27/05/2021 06:06

They are all scum but this is what the country votes for time and time again. I've given up caring for the sake of my sanity.

jgw1 · 27/05/2021 06:06

@cosima8

They are all appalling and I actually can’t bear any more of any of them. But when is someone going to speak out about Gavin Williamson. The gormless wonder - how is he still in a job??????
Oh, our Gav is a genius. He has washed his hands of all responsibility for education by cancelling exams, so everything can now be teachers fault. Hancock could learn a lot from him, I mean really why is Hancock still trying to pretend that he knows anything about Health and is running a department.
SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 27/05/2021 06:10

I’d like to say it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke.....but in fairness I’d like to see the whole bloody lot of them under a double decker

This! @ohfourfoxache lying scumbags the lot of them.

Excitablemuch · 27/05/2021 06:42

Thing is, it’s all true - he has the receipts (text messages etc). I believe every word he is saying. Genuinely. Doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s his fault as well and I think he knows that.

I believe that he wanted to reform Whitehall and that he thinks he was doing the right things in that regard. He NEVER liked BJ. That is clear - he just saw the only route to the reform he wanted was through being at the top with BJ and the like.

I don’t think he’s bitter I think he was happy to go as he realised it was going to hell.

I don’t think he’s a good person necessarily but I do think he is telling the truth. If he isn’t my then Downing Street will be able to prove that by teatime!

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2021 06:48

What is EOTHO?

LEMtheoriginal · 27/05/2021 06:49

I watched parts of that vile person's interview yesterday with bile in the back of my throat. How DARE he apologise to people's families, how dare he use them as pawns in his game of political one upmanship. I see straight through the slug.

He gives less than one fuck about the people who died as he describes.

I mean, hes right about it all i suspect. Of course the government fucked this up monumentally, we don't need an enquiry to tell us that, we have hundreds of thousands of deaths to show us that.

I thought he was a spineless twat after his barnard castle debacle but now i think i genuinely despise the "man".

Benjispruce3 · 27/05/2021 06:55

It’s fascinating and so worrying. And yet people will still vote Tory!

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2021 06:56

@StealthPolarBear Eat Out To Help Out

rwalker · 27/05/2021 06:58

Not 1 single country has got this pandemic 100% of course there will be mistakes we are walking in the unknown.
DC is complelty out for vengeance and will totally play the situation .
He seems to forget he was part of the team swell when all this happened .
Quite amusing that he's now publicly apologising as it's the right thing to do where was the apology with the Barnard castle debarcle.

Human nature with the luxury of hind site and not having to make theses sessions the majority will just throw them under a bus .

LEMtheoriginal · 27/05/2021 06:59

@benjispruce3 i know right, i just don't understand people

newnortherner111 · 27/05/2021 07:02

@rwalker the government still gets it wrong. Just about understandable to underestimate the virus in March 2020, but not again in September, in December, and a few weeks ago when being nice to India and not red listing the country was seen as more important than reducing the spread of variant B617.2.

Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and several other countries properly closed the border and had quarantine, yet 15 months later it still does not apply in the UK.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 27/05/2021 07:07

Honestly, I can't pretend I'm anything other than disgusted by the current crop of politicians from almost every party. Dominated by people who've never had a job outside the political sphere, toadying, favours left right & centre, zero morality, self interested and frankly not terribly intelligent.

But it's a vicious cycle, and it means decent people I know won't consider standing. At the last hustings the political party I'm a member of it could barely get anyone local to stand, despite it being an area with an engaged population and lots of people with very useful skills & experience from careers outside politics.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/05/2021 07:08

@CuriousaboutSamphire

There's no choosing to be done!

As ever they are al lying twats. Cummings is doing a really good job of only wearig his sincere face, using his honest voice but Ian Hislop had him bang to rights on last week's HIGNFY! and this time last year too, come to think of it!

A man who lied, hid, refused to talk and then spent too long in a rose garden not actually answering questions is bemoaning the lack of honesty and transparency in the governemnt - a behaviour that he was part of consructing.

He keeps saying "I am not a clever man" and I just want to punch him!

Agree - Scummings is a lying toad, but I think that at the moment he is telling the truth - not the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but a sanitised version of the truth which leaves him looking (he hopes) more misguided than corrupt , and like someone left to clear up other people's mistakes. Effectively he's saying "a big boy did it and ran away."

There's not one of them I would trust to tell me it was raining in a thunderstorm, and I hope the whole lot turn on each other until the whole corrupt, shoddy edifice crumbles and crashes down on them.

"I'm not a smart man" - he's sly, cunning, manipulative, self-interested, and dishonest - and very, very clever indeed. A fatal combination for the country.

This is the problem - decent, capable people don't want to get drawn into the web of open corruption which is now Westminister.

We need a complete rehaul of the electoral system with proportional representation and systems for holding politicians to account - but we won't get it with this lot. If anything thy are circling the wagons and making it less easy to hold them accountable. And they've got good reason to - they know they should all be in the dock!

What I can't understand is how Johnson still remains so popular with the electorate.

^^. This with plenty of ££££ for "VIP lane" thrown in as well as shares in companies awarded contracts above existing firms with track record of PPE provision.

This.

Totally agree there's an element of truth in it. The same chaos would have been going on in every government world wide.

I hope someone can challenge him, perhaps the csa or cmo may put a bit of intelligent context into it.

Lightswitchesoffatnight · 27/05/2021 07:36

What is Cummings up to? He’s made himself unemployable now, who would offer a snake like that a job?

HeddaGarbled · 27/05/2021 07:37

Or get criticised for not being “strong” enough, whatever that means 🤷‍♀️
