This (Cummings testimony) is starting to sound like a proper set up.

People were joking last year that Hancock would be made the fall guy for everything.

Can't stand either of the 3, but I think on this occasion Cummings is laying it on a bit too thick, seems very suspicious.

Interesting theory about a behind closed doors Cummings and Boris agreement to throw Hancock under the bus.

As there has to be an inquiry at some point, might as well do the ground work for everything being Hancock's fault now!!

No wonder he was allowed to hang around for so long!!

LakieLady · 26/05/2021 14:07

@Serpenta

I wonder what it's like to be the Hancock in this situation. Is your phone beeping with supportive messages or is it lying there quiet as former allies slither away, not wanting to be tainted by association.
He'll be sobbing into his pillow and crying for his mum.

Maybe he's in on it, and has a promise of a seat in the Lords and a nice lucrative sinecure if he shuts up and goes quietly.

70smillie · 26/05/2021 14:12

Cummings is a snake.

Come on Labour. Sort your bloody act out. This lot should be beatable by a bunch of blindfolded frogs.

ohfourfoxache · 26/05/2021 14:15

Wow, so Cummings now says his Barnard Castle trip undermined public confidence....

In other news, it’s been reported that the Pope is religious....who’d have thunk it?

Acupofcamus · 26/05/2021 14:34

At least Cummings has admitted he didn’t do a good job and referred to himself as a donkey. Quite self deprecating I think, I’ve grown to like him a little bit and I’m definitely no Tory/Brexiteer.

Hancock is a slimeball so deserves throwing under the bus. They all do though tbh.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 26/05/2021 14:49

I think the self depreciation is part of the act aimed at making him appear contrite and less arrogant so he’s rehabilitated in the eyes of the public and can return to government.

Interesting theory on Hancock being in on it though. It may have legs. He clearly hates the job to the point he’s probably responded to that ‘Who hates their job?’ thread currently running. By agreeing to take one for the team, he can move on and get his reward.

CheerfulBunny · 26/05/2021 15:09

@ohfourfoxache Precisely. I don't want any of them. I wouldn't trust them to run a bath let alone the country.
The whole Cummings saga has a real fishty odour about it, it doesn't seem 'real'. In a way I can't explain, it feels like someone is writing it. No idea what the true story is but I don't really buy the supposed rift with Johnson. It's all very, very weird.

LizzieW1969 · 26/05/2021 15:19

He’s very damning of Boris, too, makes him sound completely incompetent. (Not very hard to do, admittedly.) No wonder Boris didn’t want to sack him!

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 26/05/2021 15:26

He is indeed. I don't like Hancock particularly but they've all been in this shitshow. Cummings himself is far from blameless so it's a bit much to go all pious now.

DrSbaitso · 26/05/2021 15:31

Which self-serving liar to believe?

ElizabethTudor · 26/05/2021 15:34

Cummings - “it’s ridiculous i was put in such a position of power”
He didn’t bloody well object at the time did he.
Nor did he object at the time to all the things he’s now calling out.
Only now. It smacks of self-serving bitterness. As a PP said upthread he want / needs redemption. But his reputation is utterly destroyed. He’s a total snake / sleaze-bag.

ElizabethTudor · 26/05/2021 15:35

@DrSbaitso

Which self-serving liar to believe?
Easy - none of them.
Cosmos123 · 26/05/2021 15:36

All complete and utter con artists.
Still playing the public for the fools that they are.

DogsSausages · 26/05/2021 15:37

He enjoyed the power, it was taken away now he is bitter, angry and trying to win support. Horrible little man, shame he didnt have the balls to speak out or quit at the time.

BiggerBoat1 · 26/05/2021 15:42

Hilarious that Dominic "I had a little drive to test my eyesight" Cummings now seems to have a problem with people lying to the public.

They are all spineless, egocentric moral vacuums.

TheDogsMother · 26/05/2021 15:49

He's giving it all the 'I'm so sorry but I tried my best'. He's a devious, self-serving arsehole who, with his superior intellect, holds the public in complete contempt.

Ostryga · 26/05/2021 15:53

This whole thing is a farce, the Tories are laughing at us. Remember the very lovely photo op of DC with his little box of belongings after leaving No.10?

It’s all a very badly executed ploy to keep the little folk concentrating on this rather than whatever shite they’re cooking up next.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 26/05/2021 15:54

It is extraordinary.

Demelza82 · 26/05/2021 15:54

Meh, you lie down with dogs - you get fleas.

ArgyleIsle · 26/05/2021 15:54

Too true, just wish Gavin Williamson was with him...come on Dominic 'schools are safe'....

MedusasBadHairDay · 26/05/2021 15:55

So much this.
ICanSmellSummerComing · 26/05/2021 15:56

People may hate Cummings but he was given a brief and he successfully filled that brief and delivered the goods he said to Boris, I am good at getting teams together, let me put a team together to crack covid - and Boris said he was too scared of the power this would afford Cummings, scarier than covid.

People also forget he is a political in a sense so he doesn't waste time on point scoring, I think he would have handled this so much better actually.

Orf1abc · 26/05/2021 15:56

Cummings - “it’s ridiculous i was put in such a position of power”
He didn’t bloody well object at the time did he.

You could say that of any of them, and many MPs in general. Lee Anderson is a prime example, he can barely string a sentence together.

MuddlingMackem · 26/05/2021 15:56

Haven't seen any of it as I've been in work, but I've just said to DH that Cummings could be speaking nothing but the truth but I still wouldn't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 26/05/2021 15:57

Did he go for Gavin?
