Tiny hotel room - aibu to ask to change?

I've just arrived at a Travelodge after a truly horrible journey so may not be in the best frame of mind atm but the room is absolutely tiny. It's literally a couple of feet bigger than the double bed all around. I'm sharing with my sister and there's only one chair and no space to sit on the floor even. I'm too damn tired to do anything tonight but WIBU to ask to change tomorrow?

I've stayed in the same hotel before and had nice bigger rooms so they are available.

YANBU, I have a relative who NEVER accepts the first room she is given, even if it's nice.

I don't do that but I would absolutely make a fuss now.

And don't be guilt tripped by people because you've made a cup of tea, they shouldn't have given you one of the worst rooms.

QuestionableMouse · 25/05/2021 09:15

Jesus, there are blood spots all over the room. There's a brand new carpet... Slightly concerned that someone was murdered in here.

If someone was murdered the clean up would be a lot better.

Londonnight · 25/05/2021 09:21

I stayed at a Travelodge in February as I had to take my mum to hospital. I had stayed at this one before, but this time my room was filthy. Cups still had coffee dried on, dust everywhere. Very sticky worksurfaces. I complained to reception who just didn't care, the only thing they did was replace the cups.
I then complained direct to Travelodge and they undertook an investigation. Three weeks later I got all my money back:) So it is well worth doing these, especially as you have photos.

I will never stay in a Travelodge again

Grin You're not wrong though.

I havent been in a travelodge for many years. They always used to be big rooms with a doubke bed and a sofa that turbed into another. That was their sellin point at the time.

I have never stayed in one for more than one night though so Id probably make do for that.

I have lots of photos and yes, will be contacting customer service with them. I'm in general not overly worried about places being spotless but blood spots especially during a pandemic is just fucking gross.

@SnarkyBag there was blood spots on the wall , you may be prepared to sleep somewhere with other people’s dried blood , I would not . Perhaps you have skanky standards , I do not .

Grenlei · 25/05/2021 10:27

I don't know about the Canterbury one but in certain areas Travelodges are used as emergency accommodation for people who are homeless/ have substance abuse/ addiction issues. It's not uncommon for people to be shooting up in the rooms etc, that might be where the blood came from, or from a fight.

Whatever the source, it's not something you should have to see. I also agree the room is also tiny; the last Travelodge I stayed in (in Horsham) we had a huge room, with space for at least 1 if not 2 more beds.

CliffFace · 25/05/2021 12:00

We discovered quite quickly that Travelodge is shit and premier Inn is great even though they cost roughly the same amount.

QuestionableMouse · 25/05/2021 13:36

It's actually made me feel rather uncomfortable. The rooms should be extra clean now, not the other way around!

I'd be tweeting all those photos to them. That's disgusting.

CounsellorTroi · 25/05/2021 14:02

Last stayed at a Travelodge 5 years ago and we had a lovely big room and it was very clean. They've obviously gone downhill.

QuestionableMouse · 25/05/2021 14:05

Already tweeted them. Just about to check out and tell them exactly why!

Do they? I think Premier Inn is expensive if you want a particular date and don't have flexibility.

We tend to stay in Ibis hotels (the top ones, not Ibis Styles or Budget) for airport stays etc. Rooms are quite small but fine for a night or two.

Stop booking budget hotels and expecting excellence.

Stop booking budget hotels and expecting excellence.
It’s fair to expect basic cleanliness though Hmm

It's not "expecting excellence" to want a clean room Hmm
Mellonsprite · 25/05/2021 14:44

Bloody hell, I don’t know where you stay @Mrgrinch but having expectations of an absence of blood spots and blood stains isn’t asking too much 🙄
herewegoagainst · 25/05/2021 14:59

Probably too late for you now but I can recommend the Abbots Barton Best Western in Canterbury. Not particularly modern but lovely rooms and staff and great breakfast :)

TeaAndBrie · 25/05/2021 15:28

It doesn’t help you now but in future always book a family room. Same price but guaranteed more space.

Whatpaint · 26/05/2021 21:48

Any response to your tweets OP?

osbertthesyrianhamster · 26/05/2021 21:59

That room is bloody. I wouldn't have been able to sleep in there. Very disgusting and I would not let this lie.
