Protester are blockading Maccies distribution centres to try and get them to commit to be fully plant based by 2025.

Now I cansee the argument about meat production affecting the environment but.......McDonalds sell what people want to eat! They are a business and are not going to agree to do something that could decimate their customer base!

And this kind of protest just pisses people off, if you want to take the kids for a maccies on the way home from shopping because you cba to cook then finding out that they have no food in then you are hardly going to feel very well disposed to the people who have caused it are you?

Eventually someone will start eating the protestors like that....

Yanbu. It's ridiculous. And I don't even usually eat Maccie's

Losttheequipment · 22/05/2021 15:13

These people should start their own plant-based fast food restaurant. But presumably that would require a bit more effort than standing around shouting, so they don’t. If they really cared, they would.

Xyzzzzz · 22/05/2021 15:15

Fully plant based? No thanks. I’m all for people being able to eat what they want but that goes both ways.

Exactly!
Ylvamoon · 22/05/2021 15:18

It's easy and gives both sides high publicity. No critical thinking or proper planning involved.

But I agree, if they don't like it, open an plant pased fast food chain...

Agree. Although a plant-based fast food chain will not succeed as there is not the market for it.

Militant vegans, demanding we all change our lifestyle to conform to their preferences.

Fuck that, and make mine a Big Mac.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/05/2021 15:22

The thing is I rarely eat meat and rarely eat Maccies. No moral reasons I'm just not keen. But occasionally I want a QP with cheese and no plant based whatever can replace that!

As a PP said, I am all for freedom of choice but yes, it goes both ways!

Yes, as it usually the case, the protesters are too lazy to do things that would actually make a change and are more interested in headlines rather than results.

Disruption guarantees they will be on the news, but getting the message out there is not going to change things if they don't persuade people and show how alternatives are better than the status quo.

Develop a plant-based burger that looks, tastes, smells and feels exactly like the real thing, that is environmentally friendly and costs less money, then I might consider it as a viable alternative. But that would be too much bother for them and might take them more than a weekend.

In any case blocking the McDonald's supply chain isn't even a proper protest. A proper protest would get to the source of the problem - the animals themselves. If the vegan crown began slaughtering animals in the field it would be a more shocking protest but also a more effective one. Kill all cows in the British Isles, kill all pigs, kill all chickens, kill all sheep. That would a) cripple the supply chain properly and force more people to eat plant-based food, and b) ensure that the protest was memorable for a lot longer.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 22/05/2021 15:24

I’m veggie & I think this is stupid. If I want a decent plant-based burger I go to Leon or my local takeaway.

x2boys · 22/05/2021 15:27

Yes I agree I like the occasional McDonald's,,they sell what people want to eat .

KittyKatChonky · 22/05/2021 15:31

I’d spray the pains-in-the-arses with beef dripping. That’d clear the crowd

This!

Campaign for maccies to have more plant based options? Sure - if you show them there's a market for it then they'd be stupid not to go for it

Campaign for better animal welfare? Go for it

Campaign to impose your dietry choices on other people? Fuck off. You don't get to make that choice for anyone but yourself

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/05/2021 15:41

I am fairly near one of the protests and if I had time I would drive over and set up a BBQ :o

Vodkaandballoon · 22/05/2021 15:42

Have these people actually tasted the plant based crap on offer. They should be force fed Linda McCartney sausages. Most of it tastes like cardboard & mud. Give me a big Mac anyway. I guess this is what happens when people have much time on their hands to organize pointless protests

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 22/05/2021 15:42

I do take my dc to McDonald's sometimes but I have no issue whatsoever with protesters upsetting their distribution and it doesn't piss me off at all.
They are right, McDonald's need to clean up their act. I know it's hypocritical to eat there sometimes while knowing how appalling they are but 🤷‍♀️

Soubriquet · 22/05/2021 15:43

Yanbu OP. It’s stupid

We are now having McDonald’s tonight Wink

BronwenFrideswide · 22/05/2021 15:44

Yet more dictatorial pains in the arse, the public in general are fed up and sick of these militants demanding people do as they say it won't be too much longer before the public fight back and the result won't be pretty.

araiwa · 22/05/2021 15:49

They're right

RedRosie · 22/05/2021 15:50

I don't expect it will do much good, no.

But at least they care and are standing up for what they believe in, and what they think is right. I'm all for that.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/05/2021 15:50

I agree that plant based alternatives are vile.

As I said, I dont eat much meat but I also dont eat plant based burgers/sausages etc because they are really unpleasant. If there was a decent alternative to a Quarter Pounder with bacon and cheese then I would cheerfully have one, but their isnt!

OP posts:
tofuschnitzel · 22/05/2021 15:51

Why is it always McDonald's being targeted as the evil corporation that must be stopped? They already offer plant based alternatives. They actually do have decent food standards in the UK, it's fast food standards in the US that are absolutely dire and need to change. Why protest against McDonald's only, why not all the other fast food companies too?

JellyTumble · 22/05/2021 15:51

YANBU. Nobody gets to dictate what others want to eat.

Ridiculous.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/05/2021 15:51

@araiwa

They're right
In what? That Maccies should be 100% plant based by 2025?
