Hello @breadbreadwine
had to reply even though I’ve only read your posts and the first page of replies (cannot read through 17 pages sorry....)
First of all let me say, I would also be pissed off if my DH booked a holiday without discussing first but it’s done now so I’d advise going and making the best of it.
Weather looks fine for camping for half term where you are going. You've got electric so take an electric fan heater for the main area (not sleeping compartments) and put it on for an hour before bedtime, to warm the space.
Get a tent carpet like this= www.amazon.co.uk/Eurohike-Tent-Carpet-Medium-Grey/dp/B01IP8OIX8/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=tent+carpet&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1621792859&sr=8-5
Makes it much more cosy & warm.
Practice putting the tent up at home before you go.
I refused camping all my life, I need my luxuries. 4 years ago we gave in and went. It was quite good fun, we only did 2 nights. We had barely any kit but we borrowed from friends. We’ve been going ever since (4 nights a time now and am also going half term week. It is a cheap holiday once you have the tent but I also book to eat out in nice pubs/restaurants, not just rely on a BBQ night after night.
If you have room, take duvets, pillows & onesies (you can use those vacuum bags to suck the air out & compress them to save space) we have an electric air bed pump which has a reverse function to pack them up at the end of the trip.
Our son is not a good sleeper and is awake with the birds usually. He was 6 yo on our first trip. The fresh air & playing with instant friends on the campsite knocked him out into a deep sleep and never wakes until 8am (normally 6am at home) in a tent.
Plus you have all the activities on a park etc. Dumfries is beautiful too - only been once but lots to do.
I say this as someone who loves posh abroad holidays as-well as nice hotels but honestly it’s just different and be prepared & you’ll enjoy it.
Let us know how it goes x
