To ask how your second baby births went?

Specifically if you went into labour naturally and had 2 close together! How far along were you when you went into labour and what was the labour like?

I was induced with number 1 and gave birth at 37+1. Head was engaged and very low. induction was fast and Midwife commented they likely wouldn’t have taken much longer to come naturally.

Currently 36+1 with number 2 (15 month gap) they’re already head engaged and low, it’s not comfortable Blush very active and occasional braxton hicks. Sometimes when they’re moving a lot I’m almost convinced my waters are gonna go as feels so tight and pressurised.

My first was a tricksy little thing, took days, had to pop my waters, all the different drugs to keep labour going and needed forceps to help get them out due to being face up and not opening my cervix fully, was on cusp of emergency c section but I was determined to push them out even if I couldn't feel my contractions. Came on due date though (7lb 9oz),

2nd one.... waters went while I was sleeping (husband was just getting ready for bed bless him) things went very quick and within 4 hours I was pushing and within an hour they came out just on gas and air, was face up but turned at last moment, 1 hour over due date (9lb 10oz)

They are just under 2 years apart though.

2 very different births.

With both though I had braxton hicks from about 35 weeks and they were painful and both sat in the same place in my hip on their sides. Although birth weights very different I carried alot of water and was massive with both.

Would do it all over again but dh says no

@Toothdrama

Ahh sounds dramatic. How far gone were you when waters went with number 2?

I had a 16 month gap between my first two.

First one was a spontaneous labour at 39+2. It took about 21 hours fromelles start to finish and I had an epidural which led to a forceps delivery.

Second one also spontaneous, but not until 40+5. It was much quicker, about 12 hours, and I managed on gas & air. Waters went just before I started to push all over the midwife and he was out in about 20 minutes, but I tore quite badly because I wouldn't let them give me an episiotomy. I regret that, because my episiotomy with DC1 healed much more quickly than the tear.

Fimofriend · 21/05/2021 21:12

It went so very fast. Good thing I didn't have a third baby or it would be like being a water slide

Fimofriend · 21/05/2021 21:14

12 hours quick? My second one only took two hours! The contractions were so close I couldn't catch .my breath from one to the other.

Neighneigh · 21/05/2021 21:14

My second (6 year gap!) was super quick - fortunately I ignored the labour ward advice and didn't sit down for an hour to see how things progressed, we got straight in the car.... otherwise he'd have been born at the Happy Haddock on the A19

HappyDaysToCome · 21/05/2021 21:17

20 month gap

DC1: 4 days, forceps & vonteuse (sp?)

DC2: official established labour 11 minutes (waters had broken and were green so I was at hospital already, luckily).

Both around due date. DC2 was a pound smaller.

I advise everyone on baby 2 not to hang around but get to the hospital ASAP!

TheNextCaroleMiddleton · 21/05/2021 21:18

First birth waters broke at 38.5 weeks and than 42 hours and epidural and hormone drip she arrived, second birth 39.5 weeks waters broke and after arriving at hospital he arrived after 42 mins... second birth more traumatic due to speed but much less painful! Good luck x

Gottagetoutofthisplace · 21/05/2021 21:18

Long labour with first, the build up to my second one sounds very like how you are now - huuuge pressure and an uncomfortable buzzing feeling. Went a week over but then he shot out in 2 hours, I nearly fired him out into the hospital car park Grin Way easier than the first.
Good luck op, enjoy your two bubbys Smile

TheNextCaroleMiddleton · 21/05/2021 21:18

22 month gap

LemonRoses · 21/05/2021 21:19

Compared to first, it was like eating ice cream.

MrsHaroldRobbins · 21/05/2021 21:20

My second (21 months apart) happened very quickly, waters broke night before due date, was sent home from hospital that night and labour pains started 7am next day, DD born just after midday. Got to hospital 45 minutes before birth, no time for any pain relief!

daytrogen · 21/05/2021 21:20

18 months between my 2. My first was 5 hours long, second was 2 hours. He was 5 days early.

OnlyToWin · 21/05/2021 21:20

First one under 3 hours start to finish.

Second one - two pushes - hold out your arms, here’s your baby!

Was tempted to have a third just to beat my PB!!😁

TheNextCaroleMiddleton · 21/05/2021 21:21

I overthought my first labour, my body took over second time round...

Coachee · 21/05/2021 21:22

Following as currently pregnant with #2. My first birth was a really positive experience and fairly fast so wondering if the second will be similar.

ViceLikeBlip · 21/05/2021 21:23

1st baby, 7 hours from "oooh, what was that?" to birth, more like 5 hours from "yep, this is definitely it".

2nd baby, 4 hours from "ugh, I feel really uncomfortable this morning, maybe I just need a big poo" to birth, 1.5 hours from "I'm pretty sure this is serious, I'd better call the midwife just in case" (homebirth).

If you're anxious it might go quickly, and if there are no complicating factors, then I'd really recommend a home birth. It's so nice not to be stressing about when to go in to the hospital. With both my second and third babies I called the midwife much earlier than I would have gone to hospital, but both times the baby was born within 2 hours of the midwife arriving.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/05/2021 21:24

First was 5-6 hours, second was about 3 hrs, 2 hrs in the hospital. Third was ridiculous and measured in minutes.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 21/05/2021 21:25

First was three hours start to finish. Born at 37+6 weighing 6lb 4oz. No real issues except the midwife didn’t believe I was ready to push until she examined me.

DS2 my waters went at 32+4. Spent two days in hospital trying to stop labour. It didn’t work and he was born 45 minutes after contractions started weighing 3lb 15oz. Both actual births were very similar just my second was much earlier due to some complications with me.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/05/2021 21:25

I forgot to add, the first two were less than 2yrs apart.

namestheyareachanging · 21/05/2021 21:29

I had a 16-month age gap. 1st arrived on his due date but was a bugger to push out because he had his arm next to his head Sad So I had to get out of the water and pushed for ages. They were at the point of saying I needed to go to the other ward when he finally came!

I had my second a week early in the water and it just felt like nobody else was in the room and my body knew what was happening. Few hours of slow contractions beforehand but once I reached 4cm, it was pretty quick. I remember thinking 'never again' at the time, but I still remember it as a wonderful birth experience.

pink1173 · 21/05/2021 21:33

First birth waters went 5 weeks early and I gave birth 9 hours later.
Second birth waters broke at 8PM, baby was born at 8.59! Managed to get to hospital and thankfully my mum was staying with us so had someone to look after DS.

Toothdrama · 21/05/2021 21:33

@8monthsinandcranky

2nd I was 40 weeks exactly. All day I had niggling pains but Carried on, walked to the shop but by about 7.30pm I was exhausted and went to bed. Dh came up about 10pm, I woke up with what felt like baby giving me an almighty kick and realised my waters had gone.

Didnt think much of it.... got my mum over to look after dc1 (who was asleep) ... next thing I am screaming at dh to get me to hospital... and that was a whole different drama...

I had only dilated 4cm when I got to hospital even though I was in alot of pain.... next thing i know they tell me i am 8cm and moving me to a room... as they push me out of triage I am shouting that I needed to push.... quite surreal

Patchyone2 · 21/05/2021 22:01

First was a week or 2 early, waters broke going about my day then contractions started around 9 hours later. 28 hours in labour, luckily it started before needing to be induced. The nurses couldn’t check due to waters already being broken how far along I was, eventually with much pleading and after some pethadine, discovered I was 6cm and I opted straight for an epidural, as was exhausted. Episiotomy and ventouse and son arrived safe and well.

Vowed never to have another. 18 month later, daughter arrives a week or 2 late. I think contractions started around midnight, went to hospital perhaps 2-4am and out she torpedoed into the birthing pool at 6.18, with just the water and gas and air. Stitches again, but I think that was primarily down to birth no 1.

NachoCaveman · 21/05/2021 22:14

Very, very quickly! Officially 14 minutes from 'admitted to delivery room' to 'born'. But I think the hospital made mistakes and I was not "still only 1-2cms dilated". Otherwise I went from '1-2cms' to 'baby's here' in the time it takes to watch the first half of an episode of Frasier.

Three year age gap.
