To ask how your second baby births went?

Specifically if you went into labour naturally and had 2 close together! How far along were you when you went into labour and what was the labour like?

I was induced with number 1 and gave birth at 37+1. Head was engaged and very low. induction was fast and Midwife commented they likely wouldn’t have taken much longer to come naturally.

Currently 36+1 with number 2 (15 month gap) they’re already head engaged and low, it’s not comfortable Blush very active and occasional braxton hicks. Sometimes when they’re moving a lot I’m almost convinced my waters are gonna go as feels so tight and pressurised.

Induced for number one, and natural for number two. Went smoothly as these things go, and no issues.

There's a 25 month gap with DC1 and DC2. I did go 9 days over with her, but went into labour naturally and have a very quick birth; 1hr 30mins. No pain relief needed and no tears or stitches. For me, it couldn't have been more perfect. I've now just had my 3rd baby, he's 8 days old. There's a 21 month gap between him and DC2. I went 13 days over this time. I did get induced with him. Had a pessary put in at 1.40pm. Got a few little niggles on and off all day but nothing much. My waters broke at 10.30pm with sudden non stop contractions and he was born 11.57pm (1hr 27mins in labour). Again, a very perfect labour. No pain relief needed or any tears or stitches.

#1 39 + 4; went in to labour naturally. 13 hours or so in hospital
#2 40 exactly. Several false alarms before then and I was sitting on her head for about 3 weeks. Waterbirth at home so spent a lot of lovely time in the pool in the weeks before (filled and emptied every night, it was bliss). First contraction at 9am, shoved her out in 3 contractions at about 1:30. She weighed nearly 10lbs and was wider than she was long so quite a lot of sewing up afterwards. (nearly 28 years ago).

Mammyloveswine · 22/05/2021 15:51

23 months between my two and second was a breeze! Lovely water birth! I honestly loved it!

GrandTheftWalrus · 22/05/2021 15:54

1st baby. 8hrs from first feeling anything to baby being born. In hospital on gas & air and diamorphine. All good.

2nd baby. Irregular contractions from 4am to the point I thought it was more braxton hicks than contractions. Then nothing till 3pm when I lost my bloody show. Went and told dh I think we need to get organised as my show had went. Then my waters went at 3.15 ish. So told dh again to shift (he was in bed after a nightshift) phoned triage at 3.26pm and they said come in but I knew I wasn't making it. Phoned ambulance and I was ready to push so they started talking dh through how to deliver baby. But paramedics arrived at 3.44pm as baby was crowning and born at 3.55pm.

When I got to hospital they were still expecting me to coming in in labour and not with a baby Grin

4.5 years of an age gap.

Crowsaregreat · 22/05/2021 15:58

2.5 year age gap. No 1 was two days plus ending in cs. No 2 about eight hours of fairly small contractions, went to hospital, they said I was only 1-2 cm but then it went super fast and he was born within about three hours of that.

chipshopElvis · 22/05/2021 16:01

Mine are 23 months apart. First was born without intervention at 6 hours past due date. Second was also without intervention 10 days early. First was a 7 hour labour, second was 3 hours.

EcoCustard · 22/05/2021 16:02

12 months and a day between Dc1 & Dc2. Dc was 4 weeks early, at 36 weeks began contractions and baby arrived just over an hour later. Dc2 was 38 weeks ( and 3 days If I remember), contractions to birth in 3 hours. Both spontaneous labours with no pain relief, or tears. I did have a retained placenta after Dc2 requiring surgical removal.

EcoCustard · 22/05/2021 16:02

I meant to add they had the same due date a year apart too.

mistermagpie · 22/05/2021 16:07

20 months between my oldest two, both spontaneous labours (I was induced with my third child).

The first birth was like the thing you see in soap operas, water broke dramatically at 38 weeks during dinner, nearly gave birth in the car, all that. It was terrifying and I lost a lot of blood, both me and baby were distressed.

The second labour was lovely. I was actually in hospital at 38+6 when I went into labour, I was being checked for reduced movement and they were going to start induction at midnight, but I went into labour at about 10pm (he was born at twenty past midnight!). It was a lovely, lovely experience. I was really calm and in the zone, only needed gas and air, no stitches or anything after I'd needed an episiotomy with my first, so that was a relief. I was one of the best experiences of my life and I remember it really fondly.

If you think I'm smug then don't worry, my third labour was back to back and absolutely awful! 😂

mistermagpie · 22/05/2021 16:09

@FourTeaFallOut

First was 5-6 hours, second was about 3 hrs, 2 hrs in the hospital. Third was ridiculous and measured in minutes.
Same here for the third, the very early labour was horrible (back to back) but I was 4cm dilated at 4.04pm and she was born at 4.09pm! I needed lots of stitches though even though she was only 6lb 5oz and that was horrendous.
brogo · 22/05/2021 16:12

I gave birth to my second baby 4 weeks ago exactly at 42+2 i went into labour naturally , started getting in irregular contractions (it was only in my back though so I wasn't sure at first) on the Friday morning and she was born early hours Saturday morning. I was only in active labour for about 5 hours.
First born came naturally at 37 weeks so I assumed this one would be earlier too but she kept me waiting! I had an epidural this time around which was amazing.

Countrycode · 22/05/2021 17:23

Tricky first birth, it took days, lots of interventions and she was eventually dragged out with forceps, really awful experience all round.

The second (also 15 mo the later) went like a dream. I went over, they were going to induce me on the Tuesday but I went into labour on the Monday. Four hours all in all, wonderful experience. Polar opposite to the first.

Best of luck!

8monthsinandcranky · 22/05/2021 17:47

Still loving reading all your accounts Grin

I just feel off today but baby is moving plenty and no definite contractions just lots of muscle spasms and irregular pains. Had some mucus too but cervix seems to have receded Blush

Just keep feeling like I’m gonna poo myself but I don’t actually need to toilet. It’s delightful! X

First was 25 hours, followed by emergency ventouse and nice big PPH. Had an epidural in because after the first 18 hours things were not bearable.

Second was 3.5 hours, just gas and air, pushed for 8 minutes and job's done. She did have the cord tight around her neck though, but midwife was quick off the mark and sorted it, her APGAR was 9.

cadburyegg · 22/05/2021 18:22

DS1 born at 39+5, I was in labour for about 15 hours in total, it would have been less but he got stuck and I got stuck at the pushing stage for 4 hours Shock he was born after an episiotomy did the trick but unfortunately didn’t heal properly and it took a long time to feel better from.

With DS2, I was induced at 39+0 due to cholestasis. Had mild contractions on and off during the day until a midwife did a sweep at 6pm. 6.30pm my waters broke and the midwives were skeptical but I knew this was it, I was still in the antenatal ward at this point almost screaming my head off! They wheeled me to a delivery suite at 6.45 and he was born at 7.17. I think they documented the second stage as 2 minutes Blush bit of a change from 4 hours! all of the midwives were shocked at how quickly it suddenly happened but then were like, “well, second baby soooo”

There was a 3 year age gap

Shopaholic100 · 22/05/2021 19:31

Baby 1 was two week overdue and had to be induced. Thursday evening was induced, contractions started Friday morning and baby arrived Saturday morning. Slight graze no stitches. 6.8 lb baby

Baby 2, 5 years later, contractions started naturally Sunday morning and baby was born on Monday morning. Both labours were about the same length of time. Baby two was almost 8 lb (tall baby). No stitches.

I thought second labours were usually shorter but I think my body just likes to keep them in as long as possible. Glad no stitches were involved as I was terrified of getting them.

Really wanted a water birth both times, but first time I was induced so not allowed and second they were really busy and I nearly didn’t get a bed!

Shopaholic100 · 22/05/2021 19:35

I had a detailed both plan first time, stating gas and air only. This quickly changed to give me everything you have to get rid of this pain😩😩😩

Shopaholic100 · 22/05/2021 19:36

Baby 2 came 2 weeks early.
