To ask how your second baby births went?

Specifically if you went into labour naturally and had 2 close together! How far along were you when you went into labour and what was the labour like?

I was induced with number 1 and gave birth at 37+1. Head was engaged and very low. induction was fast and Midwife commented they likely wouldn’t have taken much longer to come naturally.

Currently 36+1 with number 2 (15 month gap) they’re already head engaged and low, it’s not comfortable Blush very active and occasional braxton hicks. Sometimes when they’re moving a lot I’m almost convinced my waters are gonna go as feels so tight and pressurised.

Glad to see I’m not alone! 1st v difficult, every intervention followed by a section. 2nd blissful vbac, 2 hours after getting to hospital, gas and air. Gorgeous experience. Don’t want a 3rd but would love to try Labour again !

@NachoCaveman

Very, very quickly! Officially 14 minutes from 'admitted to delivery room' to 'born'. But I think the hospital made mistakes and I was not "still only 1-2cms dilated". Otherwise I went from '1-2cms' to 'baby's here' in the time it takes to watch the first half of an episode of Frasier.

Three year age gap.

I did! Officially 2-10 in 8 mins 😂
Sh05 · 21/05/2021 22:44

My first was long and drawn out over three days, 5 days before my due date. Waters broken and given the drip to speed things up, at the end of it all I had been pushing on and off for 12 hours and was warned a c section was imminent. Ds was 5 lb 3oz. my face was purple with all the pushing. Looked like I'd burst loads of veins!
DD was born two and a half years later weighing 6lb 1oz, my waters went naturally two days after my due date, easier labour, no stitches this time and by day 3 I felt back to normal. They're 17 and 15 now so a long time ago but I still remember how normal I felt after DD than ds.

userintgerain · 21/05/2021 22:45

First - 16 hours at 37 weeks. Naturally went into labour but they weren't in a great position so it slowed down in hospital.

Second -17 minutes. Yes, minutes not a typo. Born on the kitchen floor.

Sh05 · 21/05/2021 22:46

@NachoCaveman
My 4th was like this. I was still in triage and started pushing, they wheeled me into labour suit and DD was born within 5 minutes

Sh05 · 21/05/2021 22:48

I was so glad though because I was really panicky at the thought of pushing through all the pain. I had an 8 year gap between baby 3&4 and thought I wouldn't be able to handle the pain

littledrummergirl · 21/05/2021 22:55

First one 37+1= arrived at hospital an hour after being woken by first contraction, delivered within 5 mins of being admitted.
Second one, (14 months apart) 35 weeks= woken in the night with stomach pain, took 2 paracetamol, wished I was at 37 weeks so I could sneak some gas and air(was planning a home birth so would have had the equipment), the penny dropped, I woke dh to call the hospital, then told him not to bother and call an ambulance. By the time he'd finished the calls I'd delivered ds2.
Third delivery was in the day and less than an hour from first contraction. Luckily was in the time frame for a home birth and midwife was with me.

Vursayles · 21/05/2021 23:04

Induced both times at term+10. First labour 36 hours, failed epidural, rushed ventouse delivery and baby in NICU for 24 hours. Second labour only 9 hours and NVD despite baby being a hefty 9lbs. Second labour was miles easier.

Idontknowanymore05 · 21/05/2021 23:08

13mth age gap here.

First one induced.
Second one natural labour. 40+1, I started feeling crampy about 3pm. 4cms dilated at 2am. Baby head really down low. Poor baby came out squashed at 40+2.

Every pregnancy is different op. You'll be okay. Good luck. Smile

weegiemum · 21/05/2021 23:11

I had an almost exactly 2 year gap.

Dd1 was 37 hours, including a drip for a bit, OP, face up, waters broken, an hour of pushing before they decided to try ventouse before going to emcs, and she came on the 3rd pull. She was 9lb12oz and I had a 2nd degree tear.

Ds on the other hand, waters went at 10pm, decided to head to hospital about 12 (we lived rurally at the time), he was born with only minimal pushing at 8am, weighing 9lb3oz.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/05/2021 23:11

Well, i was induced with dc2 on his due date (measuring small) so I might not be the person you want to hear from.

Anyway, it was an easy birth, three hours from start of contractions until baby in my arms. He was facing sideways, but still ok and fine with just gas and air. He was nearly born on the toilet though, when I went for a quick wee!

Rosewood017 · 21/05/2021 23:17

First arrived 40+6. Waters broke in my sleep but had meconium and needed syntocin to get me dilated. DS arrived 12 hours after getting to hospital. He did get stuck during pushing stage.

Second arrived 41+6. Was fully braced for her to arrive earlier than the first but had to be induced at 10 days overdue because I have big babies. Induction took forever to kick in so she arrived on day 4. Had to have syntocin drip again. 10 hour active labour. Only half hour of pushing.

Itawapuddytat · 21/05/2021 23:23

VERY FAST!

First baby was born by emergency C-section, after induction at 39 weeks+4, second time the baby came very fast, at 38w+3 (v-bac) - from my waters breaking and the first contractions to the birth, everything lasted less than 4h. Gap between the births: almost 5 years.

stuckinarutatwork · 22/05/2021 06:05

DC1 - induced (due to being overdue, born at T+13).

DC2 - spontaneous labour at T+3. Was quite a quick and easy birth (already 8-9cm when I arrived at hospital, DC was born about 30mins later).

Roselilly36 · 22/05/2021 06:14

Gave birth to DS2 - 21mth gap - waters broke - in my arms 2.5 hrs later. He was 10 days early weighed 9lbs 3oz. Natural birth, no pain relief but more painful birth than DS1, but I think that was because a I was tired, DS2 arrived at 1:30am and I had been looking after my toddler during the day and b because it was much quicker than my first 10hr labour. Soon forgotten, I was home for breakfast.

eyebagsandgladrags · 22/05/2021 06:39

Glad I found this thread! First baby born quickly - three hours from arrival in delivery room to baby being born. I'm pregnant with my second and midwives have advised a home birth. I wasn't sure, but this thread is definitely persuading me that it might be a good idea!

Hesma · 22/05/2021 07:28

My first born at 37+4 water broke at 11pm then nothing for 10 hours followed by 1.5 hour labour. Second born at 38+4 waters broke at 8am and she was born at 10.45 following a 36minute labour.

OnlyToWin · 22/05/2021 08:19

@eyebagsandgladrags my midwife wanted me to have a home birth too and so did I. DH felt hospital birth would be safer. In the end I went with him as he was quite concerned about it and although baby 2 was born very quickly she was covered in meconium and so was given oxygen for potential meconium aspiration. Her temperature was also low so she was kept under a heat lamp Amd monitored for her first night.

So, quick birth which I could happily have had at home but other factors would have meant I would have been transferred straight to hospital by ambulance, which I am glad I managed to avoid by being in hospital anyway.

None of that could have been predicted of course, so it’s a tricky decision to make.

8monthsinandcranky · 22/05/2021 09:40

Love reading all these stories.

Home birth not really an option as had numerous health complications in first pregnancy (luckily not re appeared yet) but enough to make me a bit risky and we live quite rurally so would be waiting for an ambulance if needed.

Sorry for TMI but...I slept awfully last night and spent the whole time feeling like I was gonna burst/needed a giant poo but couldn’t go (not constipated though).
This morning my cervix which is usually so high I can’t feel it has dropped right down and I’m just feeling heavy and crampy.

I’ve had SPD since mid 20 weeks so not a stranger to discomfort but just feeling a bit off. Lower back twinges...etc.

Keep telling myself it’s in my head as I’m only 36+2

15 month gap between my elder two.
#1 I was induced at 37+3 I think? Also had a fast induction. Start to finish around 7 hours. Fucking painful though.

#2 I went naturally at 40wks exactly, absolutely easy peasy. Midwife told me to push as she could see his head bulging and I was like 'nah, it's not painful enough yet, surely there's more pain coming'. I was in labour for about an hour , 2 maybe? And he kind of just fell out. I suppose my body really did just remember how to do it.

mrstnov13 · 22/05/2021 09:57

First labour was 17 hours long. No build up, waters went when I was asleep. Cramps started. Went to hospital, had to be monitored as my blood pressure was sky high and there was meconium in waters, so couldn't move around or get comfortable. Baby was back to back. Epidural given to reduce pain and blood pressure. Baby born. 6 day hospital stay due to epidural puncture and 2 blood patches. Not a pleasant experience.

Second baby I had about 18 months later. 8 hours start to finish. Had pains all day but got they got more intense about 11pm. Went to hospital, baby was born at 4:12 in the morning. Had baby in a birthing pool, gas and air, it was wonderful.

EmmaJR1 · 22/05/2021 10:50

Ds - 8 days over, laboured in water birthed in a big bean bag, no tearing, gas and air. Laboured for 6 hours.

13 months later DD - 1 day early, no tearing, gas and air, 26 mins active labour...

That was a shock

HappyDaysToCome · 22/05/2021 14:18

OP I think you should call your midwife/ birth unit at the hospital (it’s been a long time I forget what these things are called!). They’ll be able to either reassure you straight away or get you in to check you out x

Kitchendisco73 · 22/05/2021 14:50

1st birth - induced, 36 hour Labour, epidural, forceps, loads of stitches

2nd Labour- 45 mins & DD was born after 2 pushes 9 mins after I got to hospital 🤣 No drugs or stitches or anything. Didn’t even make it to Labour suit & had her on the floor of an examination room!!!

Kitchendisco73 · 22/05/2021 14:50

Oh, both were late tho. DS by 12 days and DD by 10 days!!
