To ask what the beat non stick frying pan is?

VanceRefridgeration · 21/05/2021 14:31

Yes, I know I am being unreasonable using this topic for traffic but I'm fed up of non stick ending up sticky!

All I want is a decent, normal sized, flat frying pan that lasts and stays non stick. I don't mind paying a little more for something that lasts.

I've looked at cast iron skillets, copper frying pans, ceramic frying pans...but I'm lost and after recommendations.

Bought one at the beginning of the year (just supermarket brand but covered with 'Teflon' logo) and it's already ruined.

I'm not the best cook but I don't use it for anything other than basic frying so surely it should last longer than 5 months?

Recommendations gratefully received!!

This thread is a bit old now, but we’ve recently updated our best frying pan guide with plenty of non-stick options recommended by Mumsnetters. We hope you find it useful.

I won't get anything Teflon coated since watching a docu about the forever chemicals they use to make it and just how bad they sound for the environment and people, but am in desperate need of a new frying pan! So thanks for recommendations!

EastWestWhosBest · 21/05/2021 18:46

@Xiaoxiong

Do you put it in the dishwasher, stack other pans on top of it, and/or use metal utensils? Because even the fanciest pan won't survive...

According to Which?, the Eaziglide Neverstick 2 and EarthPan Eco are the best non-stick pans out there. I had a Tefal one from TK Maxx that I loved but the non-stick wore off after a couple of years.

I’ve got an Eaziglide never stick. It was great for about a year or two. Now it’s bollocks.
anxietyanonymous · 21/05/2021 18:47

I ruined pan after pan. I have now had one quite a long time and its a scoville never stick i bought from asda.

However- i was also using fry lite type sprays and have since found out they are known pan wreckers.

So id review what you cook with and how you wash it as well as the pan itself.

StapMe · 21/05/2021 19:24

Metal utensils, washing in the dishwasher, cooking sprays and pre heating the pan too fiercely will cause non stick to fail. Season the pan before first use, and re-season occasionally. You can pay a fortune for the likes of le creuset (I did!) but with the correct care, mine have lasted well. Can fry eggs with no added oil at all.

crayyola · 21/05/2021 19:40

I’ve just had a brand new frying pan free from Le Creuset because they honoured the 10 year guarantee. New one has a lifetime guarantee! So I’m pretty impressed.

I also have a cast iron skillet which I love, but isn’t very big.

Susie477 · 21/05/2021 19:47

In my experience, expensive non-stick pans don’t last that much longer than cheapo ones, so I now buy cheapo non-stock pans from Lidl, use them until they are no-longer non-stick then bin them. Rinse & repeat. I believe many professional kitchens do the same.

Spanglybangles · 21/05/2021 19:54

I just bought a pair of prestige eco frying pans. Non stick and cheap. Good reviews, so will see how long they last.

I've had my wilko Frying pan for at least 5 years and it's only starting to stick a bit now. Still using it until I get round to buying a new one and it was £20

Macncheeseballs · 21/05/2021 19:58

How does one season a pan

Spanglybangles · 21/05/2021 19:58

I bought the eco pans for pancakes mainly as my Le Creuset frying pan seems to be useless now as far as non stick goes, and pancakes just stuck to them.

GroovyClementine · 21/05/2021 19:59

I cannot find one that doesn't scratch near enough as soon as I start using it.

I think I have eaten so much Teflon in my forty eight years, it's a wonder my poop doesn't fly out and clank.

raeroe · 21/05/2021 20:01

I use the granite pans for everything, I find them really good

berryhead2013 · 21/05/2021 20:02

I got one in IKEA and it's lasted ages Was a fiver best one I've ever had

maskface212 · 21/05/2021 20:07

All my pans are circulon. I have the Circulon Stainless steel saucepan and frying pan set, but I don't put them in the dishwasher.

Nobranothanks · 21/05/2021 20:07

Scoville!! Always on offer in asda. Their pans and baking trays are awesome and don't break the bank

Nobranothanks · 21/05/2021 20:11

Preseed send too soon?

My first pan set (Xmas present 2019 - a wanted one lol) impressed me So much that I keep adding to the collection. The baking pan was a bonus and that's now converted me too! Nothing sticks to it and it cooks things quickly and evenly

Daphnise · 21/05/2021 20:15

OP, I have tried everything- all the items mentioned, and treated them with care and I can only say, as someone who cooks a lot: NONE of them works. They may work for a time but after not too long a time-NONE!

jimmyhill · 21/05/2021 20:19

How does one season a pan

Thin coat of oil. Put it upside down in a hot oven for an hour or so. Repeat a couple of times, if you like. This builds a thin layer coating which provides a non stick surface.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/05/2021 20:23

I bought an IKEA one as a stop gap and it's been pretty good: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/kavalkad-frying-pan-black-00267706/

It's nearly a year old now and it's lasted longer than a much more expensive John Lewis one.

Buffaloskull · 21/05/2021 20:25

I love my hairy bikers one I got from home bargains for £6.99. Best one ever and I wish I'd bought two.

AlwaysLatte · 21/05/2021 20:28

The le creuset non stick range are brilliant, really properly non stick.

Fauvist · 21/05/2021 20:32

Anolon is what you need. I put mine in the dishwasher and they are all fine.

Jenjenn · 21/05/2021 20:37

I just realised my ikea 365 frying pan is 11 years old! It is the really heavy one if they still do it. I always pop it into the dishwasher no problems so far.

Serpenta · 21/05/2021 20:42

Are you supposed to season cast iron saucepans or is it just frying pans?
