To ask what the beat non stick frying pan is?

Yes, I know I am being unreasonable using this topic for traffic but I'm fed up of non stick ending up sticky!

All I want is a decent, normal sized, flat frying pan that lasts and stays non stick. I don't mind paying a little more for something that lasts.

I've looked at cast iron skillets, copper frying pans, ceramic frying pans...but I'm lost and after recommendations.

Bought one at the beginning of the year (just supermarket brand but covered with 'Teflon' logo) and it's already ruined.

I'm not the best cook but I don't use it for anything other than basic frying so surely it should last longer than 5 months?

Recommendations gratefully received!!

This thread is a bit old now, but we’ve recently updated our best frying pan guide with plenty of non-stick options recommended by Mumsnetters. We hope you find it useful.

I’ve had a few Tefal non-stick frying pans and they were very good (But they do get damaged if they get put in the dishwasher instead of being hand-washed. And Unfortunately I also find that over time the handles work loose and can’t be retightened.)

jimmyhill · 21/05/2021 14:42

No non stick coating lasts, because it's a coating.

Buy a cheap cast iron frying pan, season it, you'll never look back

Marmite27 · 21/05/2021 14:44

Pro cook gourmet non stick. I have several from this range and can’t fault them.

Xiaoxiong · 21/05/2021 14:44

Do you put it in the dishwasher, stack other pans on top of it, and/or use metal utensils? Because even the fanciest pan won't survive...

According to Which?, the Eaziglide Neverstick 2 and EarthPan Eco are the best non-stick pans out there. I had a Tefal one from TK Maxx that I loved but the non-stick wore off after a couple of years.

SwanShaped · 21/05/2021 14:46

Tell me more Jimmy! Any recommendations?

jimmyhill · 21/05/2021 14:52

These are great, don't be put off by how cheap they are. They need a bit of seasoning and you must use metal spatulas on them, this makes them smoother and more non stick

I think with non stick you just have to reconcile yourself with it not lasting forever.
I have ancient pans, but they're stainless steel. I buy mid range non stick and replace every few years.

FirewomanSam · 21/05/2021 15:03

I bought my husband an Ozeri Stone Earth one which came highly recommended and is lasting well so far. You need to baby them a bit: no sudden high heat, only silicone utensils, and minimal washing up liquid if any (if it’s just a bit of oil e.g. from frying an egg) then we just wipe it with very hot water and a sponge and give it a good rinse.

But as others have said, the coating will never last forever and that’s just the nature of those kinds of pans unfortunately!

Highly recommend circulon circulon.uk.com/

Tk maxx/homesense is always my go-to place for kitchen ware. They always have a good range of pans.

Moondust001 · 21/05/2021 15:07

I bought a nameless one in Morrisons sales about 12 years ago. Amazingly is is still perfect and is the best one I have ever had! I can't begin to understand why it hasn't worn off, but it hasn't. I wish I did know what make it is because I'd buy more!

Seafog · 21/05/2021 15:08

Cast iron all the way!
Nothing sticks, it has a more even heat, and helps to fight iron deficiency too.
Never warps, or scratches or wearing out, can always be restored and lasts forever.

MissConductUS · 21/05/2021 15:13

I've had a set of these for 20 years and they are still perfectly non-stick.

www.scanpan.eu/

I think I bought them on Amazon.

trevthecat · 21/05/2021 15:15

Procook. 25 year guarantee, they are really good if something needs replacing. We are slowly changing all our pans to procook

Chanjer · 21/05/2021 15:18

I've got anolon ones that have lasted for decades but I'm careful with them

VanceRefridgeration · 21/05/2021 15:22

Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

Yes (hangs head) I do always put them in the dishwasher 😬

No idea it affected the non stick-ness! But I don't stack it do nothing sits on top of my pans.

I'm intrigued by what 'seasoning' a pan means so off down a YouTube wormhole...

Fwiw, I've changed over to Pyrex glass baking trays because I was sick of non stick ones going rusty and warping etc. Not looked back, they are excellent. I also got them from tk maxx!

DynamoKev · 21/05/2021 15:51

I am constantly amazed by the number of people (looking at you DP) who hack away like fury at non-stick pans with metal utensils, scouring pads etc and them complain the coating is fucked. NSS.

PrivateParty · 21/05/2021 18:28

My partner loves his Denby hard anodised pots and pans. Got the whole range.

mrsdavegrohl · 21/05/2021 18:30

Scoville neverstick are the best pans, Baking trays and frying pans I have owned.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/05/2021 18:39

I usually find good housekeeping "best..." reviews helpful
They point out things to look for, even if you don't go with the recommendations.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/05/2021 18:40

& unlike Which, can be accessed free online

CountessDracula · 21/05/2021 18:42
