to put this unsolicited Avon catalogue in the recycling bin?

Came home to an Avon catalogue on the doormat. I didn't ask for it.

It has a note telling me to leave it our for collection on Sunday afternoon. The actual wording is "Leave this catalogue out on your doorstep for collection on Sunday afternoon EVEN IF YOU DONT WANT TO PLACE AN ORDER".
We're going away this weekend so I don't want to put it out tomorrow morning and have it lying there advertising the fact that we're not at home until Sunday afternoon.
The note says that if I can't put it out on Sunday afternoon I can call the person and arrange another time to collect it.

AIBU to just chuck it? I didn't ask for it, I don't want to phone a stranger up and arrange for her to collect it at a different time. Or will she come knocking on my door at some other random time looking for it? How long do I have to keep it lying around my house in case she comes back for it?

And who does she actually think she is to drop this off at my house then tell me in capital letters what to do with it?

And finally, why has this pissed me off out of all proportion

When I first moved out I had one put through our door. I did not know the etiquette was to return the book so I binned it. She came and knocked on the door to ask for it! I was mortified and flustered my way through the conversation saying I didn't know where I was ect and that I would leave it out for her. I didn't get another one through again

Laiste · 21/05/2021 13:48

I absolutely do not think the catalogue being on your doorstep will look like you're on holiday.

The whole area will have been delivered to and you wont be the only one who bungs it straight back outside so as not to have to give it any more thought.

People who break into houses don't use Avon women's rounds to work out who's in.

Secondly - if it were me i'd put it outside with a not saying don't want catalogues thanks and if it's still there on monday i'd bin it and any more that appear in the future.

moynomore · 21/05/2021 13:50

@SinisterBumFacedCat

Poor lady likely can’t afford a holiday.
What?! That's a wild leap. Not all Avon reps are impoverished. So ridiculous.
DinosaurDiana · 21/05/2021 13:50

I just leave them outside, I’m not keeping it clean/dry for you.

1forAll74 · 21/05/2021 13:51

You don't have to take any notice of people who write notes on any catalogues, just bin it. I haven't seen any AVON catalogues delivered for years now. You can get AVON online,without all the fuss of reps. etc

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 21/05/2021 13:51

@LettyLoman

Don’t bin it. People do Avon to scrape a few quid together and they have to pay for each catalogue. Leave it in a plastic food bag outside your door.
I'm not doing anything more than tossing it outside again 🤨 I'm not gonna get a plastic bag for a catalogue I never wanted.
Laiste · 21/05/2021 13:52

I'm amazed it's still worth doing at all! Avoning. As previous posters have said you have to pay for the catalogue things and the chances these days of folk ordering is pretty slim surely? We've all got the internet now.

What percentage of those catalogues are ordered from? What percentage are lost forever after going through one postbox?

bigbaggyeyes · 21/05/2021 13:56

If it's unsolicited then hun it

Tara336 · 21/05/2021 13:56

I think it’s a Betterware one I kept having put through my door during January lockdown, my place was empty as stayed with DP. When lockdown lifted I found loads of notes through my door demanding I leave the catalogue outside, there where so many notes they must have come every bloody day! They don’t seem to take the hint (that no one is there) and keep putting the damm things through the door followed by notes, it’s pointless me leaving them outside as I don’t know when they were put through the door so I’m chucking them away

bigbaggyeyes · 21/05/2021 13:56

bin

MargaretThursday · 21/05/2021 13:57

I just never take them off the doorstep.

GroovyClementine · 21/05/2021 13:57

My SIL did Avon thirty years ago. As a teen, I used to help her, read do it all apart from filling in the order form but not get any money.

There were slim pickings even in those days, orders wise and trying to get the money from the customers was a bloody nightmare. Lots of "leave the goods with me and I'll pay you next Tuesday types".

SIL got bored paying out more on catalogues, samples and all sorts of other shit than she was making after a few months and dumped the entire lot on me. I even used to get chased and attacked by a massive white pet goose one of her weird customers had in their back garden. What for, so I could give Avon money...no fear...sod that.

Avon is a scam to get money out of women desperate to earn. Their profit on that front is from those poor mares paying for all of Avon's sales related crap, not selling make up.

SIL's sister did make a few quid but only by having an absolutely huge area to herself in a more affluent big town and being out of the house night and day to almost obsession level.

Bin it. You'll be doing her a favour by showing her what a waste of time it is before she buys even more of Avon's advertising shite to place on people's doorsteps who are not interested.

Laiste · 21/05/2021 13:57

I mean - why would you want to fanny around writing in a catalogue order form, put it outside on the right day, hope the woman comes to get it, wait for her to do the orders, wait for her to receive the item, wait for her to walk it to you and then - what? - Are they still coming round for the money on the doorstep at a later date? Do you have to be in to collect the stuff and pay on the same day??

It's nonsense!

Devlesko · 21/05/2021 14:00

They have to pay for the catalogues, Avon are a MLM or whatever they are called.
Just leave it in a clear bag on your doorstep.

j712adrian · 21/05/2021 14:02

unsolicited = bin

ThatIsMyPotato · 21/05/2021 14:03

I'd just leave it there, we leave ours there for weeks and then it eventually gets picked up. Usually wet.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/05/2021 14:03

What?! That's a wild leap. Not all Avon reps are impoverished. So ridiculous.

Not really. She obviously needs the catalogue back so she won’t be fined for loosing it. Meanwhile OP is heading off on the first weekend lockdown restrictions have been lifted and hotel prices will be hiked up. Different worlds.

gegs73 · 21/05/2021 14:08

Leave it outside in a bag with a note to not put any through again. They pay for the catalogues and reuse them so it’s pretty harsh to just throw it away. It’s really hard to earn more than a pittance doing an Avon round. No one is going to think you are away if it’s left outside with a note, just that it’s not been picked up.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/05/2021 14:08

Agree. That way of shopping is at least 30 years out of date.

Free delivery on orders over £20 from the Avon website.

littlepattilou · 21/05/2021 14:08

@Lindy2

You could leave it out for her to collect. That would be more kind.

CRINGE ALERT! Shock

BE KIND!!! Er how about NO! Hmm

sparemonitor · 21/05/2021 14:09

Send her a text saying 'the Avon catalogue that you put through the door of (address) is in the top of the recycling bin outside. If you want it back, come and get it asap before more rubbish goes on top of it. I don't want to buy anything and so will now be blocking this number'

littlepattilou · 21/05/2021 14:09

@Devlesko

Why is that the OP's problem?
daisychain01 · 21/05/2021 14:09

@LettyLoman

Do this^

And put a polite note inside to say something like "thanks for the catalogue, but we aren't interested so pls remove us from your list. We will need to recycle it in future, sorry."

wdmtthgcock · 21/05/2021 14:11

Bin.

Worrysaboutalot · 21/05/2021 14:12

I would put it in a carrier bag with a note saying, please don't leave these books at my address. and weigh it down with a plant pot, brick etc in your front garden/step.
doesn't take a minute to be kind and I think Avon people pay for their booklets.
