For his dedication to the country for the past 18 months.

I also secretly find him a bit attractive: reckon it’s his humble intelligence

@hitsvilleuk

I don't think he is the marrying kind.....
mabey not, but i could definitely change that ;)

very clever guy

AngeloMysterioso · 19/05/2021 22:45

I could have sworn he already has one.

Is he not Professor Sir Chris Whitty?

Did I imagine that?

AlfrescoDining · 19/05/2021 22:46

@Blossomtoes

All he’s done is his job.
Haha, try applying that sentiment to Boris.
Blossomtoes · 19/05/2021 22:49

We all know Johnson has fucked up. Nobody’s suggesting he gets a knighthood - although I bet he does at some point.

PomRuns · 19/05/2021 22:51

He’s really well respected and a lovely person. Exactly the kind of dr you want to look after you.

No just a cbe. Patrick Vallance has one though.
AgeLikeWine · 19/05/2021 23:06

I’m sure Whitty will get his knighthood, and Van Tam, too. Sarah Gilbert & Andrew Pollard will also get honours, as should thousands of medics, scientists & volunteers with lower profiles. All will be very well earned & well deserved.

I bet Whitty, in particular, must be longing to return to academic anonymity. While Van Tam always looks like he enjoys the public role, and he’s very good at it, Whitty looks like he hates every minute he spends in front of the cameras.

FFS. A job barely anyone else can do or with such humility and expertise.
Mygardenisanightmare · 19/05/2021 23:13

I agree Chris Witty looks like a top bloke but wishes he wasn't in front of a camera. Love him, Patrick, JVT etc just all brilliant

Bellyups · 19/05/2021 23:23

Absolutely agree. He has been constant, calm, informative and hard working through out this.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/05/2021 23:38

Top bloke. I'd definitely ride him like SeaBiscuit.

Taliskerskye · 19/05/2021 23:49

He’s 55
Fuck my life I thought he was in his late 60s
Wow

MyOctopusFeature · 20/05/2021 00:01

@OverByYer

Absolutely yes. He has gone above and beyond with humility.
He has had a sad background too, losing his father to terrorists. I always found him quietly driven, almost to an OCD level. I believe he is single and devoted his life to helping others. The fact he acts with humility is a huge testament to his inner character. This country needed him and we should be thankful he was there for us.

Yes, absolutely this. We see too few people with these attributes on the TV nowadays (looking at you Boris).
TableFlowerss · 20/05/2021 00:11

Totally agree! Let’s be honest, he’s far more deserving than some celebs that get them. Absolutely NBU with bells on.

Sign him up..... get the petition going for Chris to get a knighthood, he deserves it

MyOctopusFeature · 20/05/2021 00:18

And a Peerage. He would add something to the HOL.

Ponoka7 · 20/05/2021 03:01

One of my consultants got a knighthood for his work in the Congo during Elboa outbreaks. He'd been a military doctor. One of my other Consultants, his close colleague is on the BBC regularly and has also worked globally during all disease outbreaks. There's lots of worthy doctors.
I lost respect for Whitty and Valance when they refused to answer if what Dominic Cummings was wrong. It wasn't a political question. It wasn't framed to reference Cummings directly. They fudge questions about closing our borders and others that Boris was clearly getting wrong. I applauded him when he stated that the UK was were we were because of underfunding, but then he has stood back while unethical stuff has happened and bad decisions taken. He later showed a lack of honesty at the questioning slots. While there's still going to be a public inquiry is into the handling of the pandemic, I don't think it should happen.

LakieLady · 20/05/2021 07:38

I don't agree with knighthoods (relic of a feudal society imo), but he's done a bloody good job, along with all the other scientists.

Shame the bloody government didn't take more notice of their advice imo.

BarelyFunctioning · 20/05/2021 08:40

A friend of mine who's a medic has worked with him, been to the pub with him etc.

He says he's an all round, 100% decent guy.

BarelyFunctioning · 20/05/2021 08:42

@Ponoka7 He is regularly put in a very difficult position.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/05/2021 08:49

I think the medics quite understandably err on the side of caution when 'political' questions are asked

Anyone with half a brain knows Cummings did wrong but to say that out loud is for politicians

jasjas1973 · 20/05/2021 08:55

@SpongebobNoPants

All he’s done is his job The same as every other knighted person then? Hmm He’s done his job to an excellent degree under exceptional circumstances
He has supported the Govt through thick and thin, with zero criticism, despite some very disastrous decisions.

So yes he has done his job the government put him there to do.

Yay a Knighthood beckons!

DenisetheMenace · 20/05/2021 08:58

Allmyarseandpeggymartin

I love the Whitster totally deserves a knighthood. Sir Chris Whitty has a nice ring to it!
He’s gone on holiday this week (for the first time in two years) wonder what he’s up to?“

Sleeping for a week, probably!
