Job adverts without salaries

Am i being unreasonable in thinking job adverts should come with salary ranges?

I'm looking for a new job for various reasons, but it's annoying that the salary is "competitive". Is it really now, then tell me what it might reasonably be!

There is quite a lot of variation within my industry, but I don't want the faff of trying to find out about a job and then find out it's going to pay less than my current job.

Or am I being like my username a precious diva Grin

I've known friends where it's been written into contracts that they can't discuss pay grades

I don't this can be enforced without a hell of a legal battle.

In a ‘normal’ job market scenario nobody wins.
Candidates ,HR and the team wanting a new employee have time wasted.
If offer is lowball nobody good is going to want the job.

I suppose it works in a labour market where lots of qualified people are desperate or they just want the cheapest hire no matter what

When dealing with recruiters, it is perfectly acceptable to ask for a salary indication. You can also set your own parameter - your own industry version of "I don't get out of bed for less than $1,000 a day" or whatever the famous model was reported as saying. It saves everyone a heap of time and hassle.

Or go to Plan B:

Totally agree. And don’t get me started on civil service jobs which want the moon and more but are only prepared to pay ~£25k

@SheilaTubman but at least they're upfront about it 😂

My experience of this was that its a waste of time and I would not recommend. I did once while job hunting to move closer to now DH. I applied for a new job - a trainee position so wasnt expecting huge salary, but I was on a slightly above average admin wage at the time. I'd told by people/recruiters previously that non advertised salary jobs are often higher than standard salaries etc so took a chance.and went for it.
I went through a whole interview - even did the ultimate no no and asked what the salary 'range' could be. I wanted to role but wasnt super invested in that specific job so had nothing to lose I thought. I was told it was still to be determined etc 😒 Then I got job offer few days later. I declined offer as it was 4k less than my current salary and I couldnt break even (was not moving in with bf until rennovation was finished so would rent nearby for 6 mo) They asked what i was looking for and I said I could go 2K less than my current roles salary as it was a career change and I'd need training etc so was prepared to drop (I will never do this again). 1 week later they called back and offered me the job but had upped original offer by the 2K. All seemed great so I took it. Long story short they were terrible employers and the job lasted 5 miserable months. If they'd only advertised thier salary I wouldnt have ever applied for their shitty job and the whole time wasting situation could have been avoided for everyone.
