AIBU to think that medication which can eliviate symptoms of menopause are charged.

I have just been prescribed patches, they come as one patch, but because the have two ingredients in, I am charged two prescription charges. I also have some gel.

So two items for £28.05

I am so mad right now!!

@LizzieSiddal

You said you have gel as well. You’ll be paying for the gel and the patches- so two products.
She is paying for 3, they are approx £9 each so 3x9 is £28.

Blame the Conservatives. They introduced the prescription charge!

Loubilou09 · 19/05/2021 10:36

I pay privately and it is about £20 a month

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/05/2021 10:39

It might be cheaper privately depending on the hormones. Ask a few pharmacies in your area what they might charge.

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 19/05/2021 10:55

Tbh there are anomalies re which chronic conditions qualify for free prescriptions and charging for hrt in particular is just charging for being female in that every woman goes through menopause.

Also the "bE gr8fUL Ur not iN tHe USA wheRE eveRyoNe DIES" posts are boring. Comparing one healthcare system that doesn't work very well due to a poorly set up funding model with another healthcare system with an even worse funding model, both of which are global outliers, is pointless.

@Outbutnotoutout

I have bought a year certificate now and will pick up the medication later.

I guess you all think we should be charged TAX for sanitary products as well.

100% yes I do think tax should be charged on all sanitary products if they're disposable, as there's other more environmentally friendly options.

I also think of course you should be charged for HRT. There are millions of people with life limiting conditions who pay for their prescriptions without the level of petulant whining you're displaying.

If you feel it should be 1 charge for the patch then query it.

BurtonHouse · 19/05/2021 13:10

Spindle and Leonardsworld, whatever NICE guidelines may say, I was refused HRT after 5 years, although that was 7 years ago. And by then I was so sick of having to justify myself every 6 months in the face of opposition.
