AIBU to think that medication which can eliviate symptoms of menopause are charged.

I have just been prescribed patches, they come as one patch, but because the have two ingredients in, I am charged two prescription charges. I also have some gel.

So two items for £28.05

I am so mad right now!!

You may also want to get some baby oil @Outbutnotoutout, otherwise you might end up with black sticky patches on your bum!

Outbutnotoutout · 18/05/2021 13:44

@Hankunamatata

Theres also a campaign to allow vaginal estrogen to be brought over the counter
I saw that, such a good idea. Men can buy viagra over the counter

Davinas program was so interesting, sat and thought, bloody hell that's me.

Also mad that menopause is a "add on" to doctors training and not mandatory. As if 51% of the population isn't women

@chocolatesaltyballs22

My husband takes about 4 lots of meds for a lifelong illness. I also take HRT (two separate prescriptions). We both pay for an annual NHS prescription. As others have said, it's the cheapest way. Would suggest you suck it up and apply for one!
I did !

😁😁😁👍

@Outbutnotoutout

So I already pay into the NHS as I work full time, but I need to pay again?

Joke

I pay £10 a month for a prepaid card, it means I don’t get clobbered for my asthma and chronic pain medication. I also pay tax. I think it’s a fucking bargain frankly, if I was born in the USA I would be dead from an asthma attack years ago. Google prepaid prescription card and start appreciating the NHS.

If you buy your pre-payment certificate tpday, OP, I think you can claim that £28 back you just paid.

ivykaty44 · 18/05/2021 13:51

how do we know that the money you've paid in has actually covered your NHS requirements? you may have had x 2 births, 12 gp appointments, x3 A&E visits and actually be in debt to the NHS already and not having paid enough

your NINO contributions cover NHS, pension & schooling

tentosix · 18/05/2021 13:59

Move to the USA and find out about real health injustice.

SpilltheTea · 18/05/2021 14:03

You get way more out of it then you'll ever put in and it would cost far more if you went private. Stop whining and grow up.

Londontown12 · 18/05/2021 14:47

I’m on this one to op ! First time I had it 2 charges it depends who serves me thou cus sometimes only 1 charge depends if they are new so I just go with it !! Hope they help they have made my life so much better !! X

Londontown12 · 18/05/2021 14:48

I had to also pay for 6 antibiotics today !! And I’m on arthritis medication 😂 I think I need a yearly pre paid thing ! X

Yes you can.

yes, it's an anomaly that HRT attracts two script charges if it's combined. I usually prescribe three months at a time to help this. FWIW it's only those earning over about £50k who are net contributors to the public purse.
BurtonHouse · 18/05/2021 18:42

Chances are your GP will only let you be on it for 5 years anyway, so then you'll have to go private, which will cost more.

That would be against NICE guidelines.
Leonardsgirl · 18/05/2021 18:49

Burtonhouse that's rubbish. I've been on HRT for 12 years.

bunburyscucumbersandwich · 18/05/2021 19:45

@Outbutnotoutout

I have bought a year certificate now and will pick up the medication later.

I guess you all think we should be charged TAX for sanitary products as well.

The "tampon tax' was abolished in January.
Mummyratbag · 18/05/2021 20:58

I think you have to have an FP57 (form) stamped and completed at the time you paid to get a refund with a PPC. We weren't allowed to fill them out retrospectively.

Hesma · 18/05/2021 21:29

Take your head out of your arse and look at the bigger picture. We are extremely lucky to have the nhs, you had a free consultation and subsidised medication. Hopefully the HRT will kick in soon and you’ll stop moaning

That's what she was saying

@SpindleWhorl that's interesting 🤔

I guess after 5yrs your body doesn't suddenly start producing the hormones so why shouldn't you take it for as long as you need.

Women get such a shit deal

ItsSnowJokes · 19/05/2021 08:43

It is normal for HRT to he charged for 2 prescriptions if you are on something like Evorel Sequi or equivalent. This has patches with estrogen and then patches with progesterone for the final 2 weeks of cycle.

OP get a prepayment certificate. It's under £11 a month and gives you all prescriptions for that cost. I am on HRT and it has saved me a lot of money.

ItsSnowJokes · 19/05/2021 08:46

Thats absolute bollocks and against guidelines. You can stay on HRT for however long you need it for. I know someone in their 80s who are on HRT. Some untrained in menopause GPs trot out this bollocks but it is not a fact and if they tried it on just take the NICE guidelines in to them.
SpindleWhorl · 19/05/2021 09:09

The NICE guidelines and press releases from late 2015 into 2016, and 2019, are freely available to the public as well as GPs.

There's a Menopause board on here with them stickied to the top, and lots of useful threads with some truly expert posters about.

Cosmos45 · 19/05/2021 10:13

OP I had the same with this patch - had to pay twice - and i had another medication as well.. I ended up using a prepaid prescription for a year and it works out about £10 a month - no extra charge if you pay it monthly DD (you pay 10mths). I would just do this. It works out much cheaper, but yes it is very annoying..
