Im feeling pretty fugly these days. In particular my face. Feeling old and saggy and washed out. Late 30s if that makes a difference.
I genuinely want to know, has anyone done anything that has given noticeable results? There’s so many lotions and potions and surgeries out there, but I don’t know where to start.

Forget the lotions! Do you drink much water?

wwysd · 18/05/2021 09:28

Dermatica or Skin&me

SomewhereInbetween1 · 18/05/2021 09:30

Sun lotion, every day.
Regional serum every night.
Zinc & collagen supplements.

FeistySheep · 18/05/2021 09:33

Loads of water, exercise, healthy diet, healthy weight, don't smoke, don't over-drink alcohol. If you're already doing that, by all means spend lots of money on lotions, but no, I've never found anything that made a major difference. The exception is if you actually have a skin condition. Assuming your skin is normal, not dry or anything, it will moisturise itself. Just don't use soap or hot water.

Getting a bit of sun on your skin, but not too much, is definitely the way to go. Healthy glow + vitamin D, without going for the overtanned wrinkly look!

New hair cut can make a huge difference to your 'freshness'?

Justanticipating · 18/05/2021 09:34

I agree with phoenix, drinking lots of water makes me glow a bit more.

I've got a long way to go to make myself look better, having had a baby at the start of lockdown 1 I've really let myself go! Blush

But when I do need a boost I love the Body shop vitamin C smoother. I've used it for about 15 years now and it really does make your skin feel and look lovely. It's a really soft silky texture rather than a cream, a bit like a primer.

I agree that lifestyle now matters. Retinol of a night, hyaluronic acid of a morning. Throw In face peels, I'm in my 50's and body shop vitamin C peel made a difference, I also use one by The Ordinary. If you wanted to splash out, a home micro-needling kit will give you a glow. I got mine from QVC. That will take you into your late 40's.

insertrandomusernamehere · 18/05/2021 09:38

Late 30s here too. I've two toddlers very close in age and the amount I've aged in the last two years is shocking. I caught sight of myself in the bathroom mirror yesterday and wondered where the old me had gone- congested, dull skin, limp hair, etc. So, I booked myself in for microdermabrasion facials and will be having the full works with eyebrow wax, tint and a haircut. Also determined to drink lots of water and get some early nights in.

Does microneedling hurt? I've always wanted to try it but chicken out at the thought 🥴
ComingToGetUBarbara · 18/05/2021 09:39

Sleep helps my skin massively! In fact I must go to bed early tonight as I look shocking (but I know I will end up going to bed late as I always do.)

ComingToGetUBarbara · 18/05/2021 09:41

Also OP, my eyebrows were getting quite sparse so I bought some rapid brow which has thickened them up and then tinted them at home. It made such a difference!

FluffyBlueJumper · 18/05/2021 09:42

I am 39 and look much better than at 25.
I have lost lots of weight. Low carbing has massively improved my skin too.
I use a cheap acid toner (the Ordinary) every night.

I swear my skin looks better when I am doing 16:8 so eating dinner earlier and not having breakfast, essentially. I wake up feeling fresher and my skin just looks better. I think I can get away with just bronzer and blusher when I'm eating like that. It could also be that my diet is better anyway when I'm eating like this as I'm more aware so possibly making healthier choices. I'm rubbish at remembering to drink water so it can't be that.

Parkmama · 18/05/2021 09:46

@ComingToGetUBarbara please can you post a link to the rapid brow you bought?

catgirl1976 · 18/05/2021 09:49

Watching with interest as I appear to be ageing daily and badly (44)

Don't drink enough water and don't get enough sleep and never have any "me" time for things like a skin care routine so I guess those are my first steps!

ComingToGetUBarbara · 18/05/2021 09:49

@Parkmama this is the one I got - you can get 15% off your first order at the moment I see. I would say it lasted me about 6 weeks maybe: www.lookfantastic.com/rapidbrow-eyebrow-enhancing-serum/10644472.html

isettled · 18/05/2021 09:52

I'm 38 used to be fugly now just ugly Grin

No seriously, I get Botox which had been the biggest help. I do like skincare and use a skin and me prescription which has changed the texture of my skin and evened it out. And I use lots of hydrating products to feel glowy.
Drinking water doesn't make an ounce of difference to me but I do it because you should be hydrated.

ComingToGetUBarbara · 18/05/2021 09:54

This has literally just inspired me to get a glass of water and down it. I'm so bad at drinking water. I've had a fitbit for years and never once been able to hit the target for recommended daily water intake Blush

Ihavenoauthority · 18/05/2021 09:58

Lots of water. Aerobic exercise. And Botox, works wonders!

dottiedodah · 18/05/2021 10:00

I use a lovely kind moisturiser ,Super Facialist peaceful night cream .About £15.00 from Sainsburys! Really nice smell and skin feels soft yet firm IFYSWIM .Also a little bit older than you,but took a couple of selfies and looked very pale and washed out .Have tried a slightly darker tone of blusher and powder ,Seems to have made a difference ! Try to drink lots of water as well and also stay out of the Sun for long periods too.

fartandsnap · 18/05/2021 10:02

For me completely stopping drinking alcohol, drinking lots more water and using cleansing balms has made a huge difference.

CornishGem1975 · 18/05/2021 10:20

A good strong SPF every day, retinol serum and vitamin c serum every night and my skin appearance has changed massively.

TimeForTeeOff · 18/05/2021 10:22

This is so helpful, thank you all so much. Guilty of not drinking enough water so will sort that out straight off! I’m pregnant at the moment so not drinking, now time to look into other suggestions. Botox has been on my mind for sure!

OP posts:
WeeWelshWoman · 18/05/2021 10:24

I use the ordinary retinol emulsion at night and have noticed really good results in just a few months. :)

Coffeekisses · 18/05/2021 10:45

Please be careful with retinol - it is essentially an irritant and triggered my rosacea (I’d never had it before).
