Im feeling pretty fugly these days. In particular my face. Feeling old and saggy and washed out. Late 30s if that makes a difference.
I genuinely want to know, has anyone done anything that has given noticeable results? There’s so many lotions and potions and surgeries out there, but I don’t know where to start.

I'm fat. And as the saying goes 'fat don't crack'

But also I hardly drink alcohol, exercise regularly, lots of fresh air.

@OohThatCat it may be the skin and me prescription cream that is making the difference. I started both at the same time so not too sure. It's low dose tretinoin, niacinamide and azeliac. I use it every other night and use lots of hydrating stuff during the days and my skin looks pretty good.

Bit of Botox, collagen supplements and quitting booze.
I feel I look ten years younger. I don't think there are really any less expensive/lifestyle altering alternatives that work anywhere near as well

If you have specific problems target them properly.

So much of the anti ageing skincare is generic, but best money I’ve spent is having some laser on my skin. Was expensive but I’d have probably spent the same in lotions and potions eventually and got no results. Similar with having my eyebrows microbladed and teeth whitened.

Botox, occasional lip fillers for a lift rather than a trout pout, retinol and a few tan drops in my moisturiser help too.

Thanks for starting this thread OP, it's given me a real kick up the arse! I'm on day 5 with no alcohol now, have actually been going to bed early and my Body Shop vitamin c face stuff is arriving today. Bought some cucumber eye gel and a vitamin c sheet mask from Boots too. I'll be looking 21 in no time Wink

I turned 50 in the Lockdown (hooray, no need for a party!) and realised that I had spent 6 months not paying attention to myself, when usually I'm pretty good as I have to look the part for work.

So, I have:
~ Had my eyelashed permed
~ Booked for Profhilo (subcutaneous moisturiser)
~ Sorted out my nails, brows and errant hair
~ Had a really good cut, lots of length taken off, and coloured (though I do this every 5 weeks normally, lockdown had taken its toll)
~ Gone back to the gym 3 times a week
~ Upped my water intake to 3 or 4 pints during the day
~ Forced myself to get back on the fruit habit

I'm looking better!

OrangeRug · 21/05/2021 10:26

@wink1970 I've been trying to 'train" myself to enjoy fruit more but I find it such a chore! I love veggies but for some reason can never get excited about fruit even though I do like the taste.

@TTCAbroad
20 weeks. Yeah I’d have thought I’d be looking more glowing, with skin enjoying my time off alcohol (gave up vaping/smoking too) but not feeling that at the moment.
I’m no doubt my own worst critic when it comes to my looks.

Noted about not using retinol whilst pregnant but will look at that after. All over the daily SPF, and making a conscious effort with water intake.

Keen to do teeth whitening, any leads on how much and how would be great. I’m nervous to do anything that damages the teeth.

Oh and the poster who mentioned getting hooded eyes sorted out surgically, please tell me how much that cost you!

I had my colours done, I wasn't fussed until I saw the 'after' results and realised my clothes made me look sallow and ill.
I use a Q10 skin cream on my hands and face (under a quid from Lidl) and sun screen.
The other thing that really made a difference was a decent manageable hair cut.

Dogoodfeelgood · 23/05/2021 22:48

If you can afford it, Botox. And then tooth whitening was also a big boost for me in terms of improvement in how I looked. The return on investment of these two things far outweighs any lotion or potion, but obviously they are more expensive than creams. A good cheaper skincare is “the ordinary” range, retinol and AHA and BHA acids are also proven and fantastic for skin.
