What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

I don't drink blue drinks. Nothing good can come of drinking blue drinks.

LittleBunnyTail · 17/05/2021 17:32

Curtains have to be pulled back to match, exactly. DH does not do this and so I go around tweaking until they are even.

Cyw2018 · 17/05/2021 17:33

Doors, particularly, internal ones must be either completely shut (with a click) or completely opened, I can not stand doors left ajar.

HopeWish · 17/05/2021 17:34

Some of these are absolutely ridiculous!

My mum always had this rule that if you had a cooked meal at lunch (even if it was just light I.e. small bowl of pasta) you couldn’t have a cooked meal in the evening. After I moved out this rule stuck with me and it irritates my husband to no end now as he regularly used to have two cooked meals a day when growing up.

LittleBunnyTail · 17/05/2021 17:35

Tomhardy look up dented cans and botulism!

picturesandpickles · 17/05/2021 17:36

I have indoor/outdoor trousers, this is not a covid thing, it started when we used to go to the allotment a lot.

To be fair, you're probably right!
Kyph · 17/05/2021 17:39

@WarmSausageTea

Can you drink hot drinks in glass mugs?

Some places serve small/medium latte in a glass. I’m not a fan.

Those with the little handle too far down and too small to grip? I have been known to ask them to pour it into a proper mug. Blush
Happytobejabbed · 17/05/2021 17:40

Only certain mugs.

I do like to count things - how many screws hold something together, how many holes in something, lights in a ceiling. Just out of interest really.

Not starting something until other things are all ok. A bit like Eric Morecambe and Andrè Previn.

SliderTimeYay · 17/05/2021 17:41

I can't drink water straight out of the tap, have to fill it up and tip it out (only a little bit) four times before I can drink it. Check the front door handle is locked three times before I go up to bed. The house has to be aired every day, windows must all be opened to let it 'blow through,' regardless of the weather/season Grin TV must be left on BBC1 before being turned off, volume can be 18/20 but not an odd number unless it's 25 when I'm ironing. Wow didn't realise I had so many rules - pretty sure I have more eek!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/05/2021 17:42

No bunches of randomly coloured flowers. Unless they are tulips. Or from a florist. So basically no naff mixed bunches of supermarket flowers.
Take your outside jacket off inside. My fil used to sit there for hours in his coat and it felt like he wasn’t stopping (I wish)
Christmas presents are opened one at a time taking turns.

DadAManger · 17/05/2021 17:43

@lollipopsandrainbows - I’m the exact opposite! Number 2 only in the downstairs loo! Why should I smell it upstairs? The bedroom is my sanctuary.

RaininSummer · 17/05/2021 17:43

I tell myself I am not allowed to sit on the sofa until after 2pm at the earliest at the weekend or on days off if home all day. This is because I know once I do, I will only shift my bum to get dinner as I get engrossed in crafts and films.

zafferana · 17/05/2021 17:43

You people all have OCD ... just sayin'

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/05/2021 17:44

Oh and when going down an escalator, I have to count three treads going before I can go on. If someone interrupts me I start again.

Standrewsschool · 17/05/2021 17:44

When changing bedding, I always have to do the dc’s bed before doing my own bed. Don’t know why, it just seems wrong.

quizqueen · 17/05/2021 17:45

NO bigger items stacked on top of smaller similar ones.

readytosell · 17/05/2021 17:46

In kitchen drawer, it has to be from left to right knives, forks, big spoons, teaspoons. No matter where I have lived, it's the rules. Not weird at all... honest Grin

WarmSausageTea · 17/05/2021 17:48

Yes! So much wrong with them.

SunshineCake · 17/05/2021 17:52

I doubt any of us have OCDHmm.

Having read all the thread I do lots of these and there is nothing wrong with any of us.

MiriamMargo · 17/05/2021 17:54

Mugs/cups have to be white inside. Pegs have to be same colour on a garment and washing has to be put out on the line evenly, from large on the outsides coming to small closest to the prop

cupsofcoffee · 17/05/2021 17:55

Water has to be cold and from the fridge, not straight from a tap.
Hot drinks in mugs, cold drinks in glasses.
Dials and volume controls etc. always have to be on an even number, or on a multiple of 5.
I can't leave the house if I've not made the bed (emergencies aside, obviously). The same goes for blankets being folded on the sofa and washing up being done.
Glasses go the right way up in the cupboard, but mugs are upside down.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/05/2021 17:58

Brown sauce for sausages, red sauce for bacon.

butterpuffed · 17/05/2021 17:59

I have to open crisps from the bottom of the packet.

HaveringWavering · 17/05/2021 17:59

@OlivesTree I told my DH only this afternoon not to put the bag containing DS’ new shoes on the kitchen table! Like you, it is more to honour my late Mum, who was very superstitious, than because I believe it myself, and I think her Mum taught it to her. Same effect anyway, I can’t let it happen!
