For me it is the habit of drinking out of bottles. Everywhere you go people are swigging out of bottles. Had a bank appointment and even Manager was drinking out of a bottle. Agh I must be getting old. Give me a glass any time.

It's very clear you have chosen to not understanding MY point, and that's fine.

Not sure why you need to keep banging on about it. Is it the need to patronise others?

bleachblondemom · 25/05/2021 17:47

@ChicFennel nope just trying to help people see why we need to stand up for equality no matter our skin colour

ddl1 · 25/05/2021 18:01

I've seen those (Facebook posts demanding that you copy-and-paste to your wall) from some people who I'd never have thought would share such a thing. They must be very insecure really.

Not necessarily - I think often they've been pressurized by someone else, or are just doing the pass-on-the-chain-mail thing automatically. There was one friend who REALLY surprised me by doing this, as she's normally very independent-minded, but it turned out that a seriously ill friend had personally begged her to do so (there was some mention of awareness of chronic illness in the post).

LifesAnItch · 25/05/2021 18:15

Prefixing anything with 'super' - super tired, super excited, etc.

powershowerforanhour · 25/05/2021 18:46

This is really sour and mean minded of me but- cbeebies bedtime hour presenters when they are doing that mental health awareness bit. Chirpy woman (think she is a proper actor but sorry don't know many of the names- I haven't really watched much proper drama in years - cbeebies and Police Interceptors makes up 95% of my viewing) explaining why mummy and daddy are losing their shit during lockdown; an unshaven baseball capped Tom Hardy slumped on a bench looking miserable and hungover and saying he needs a hug, and the black guy coming over all Shakespearean when everyone else is sounding sort of forced best-matey.

Media tells us that mummy’s are uncontrollable when Tom hardy reads the bedtime story... utter crap
Rosewood017 · 25/05/2021 19:41

Yes, and just the "be kind" movement in general

@halfathreepence exactly! I see so many political posts berating anyone who thinks differently. With a meek self-righteous #bekind at the end.

I have a pet hate on here that’s directly related to this kind of thread where posters will respond with a reply that starts each line with: “People who...”.

So it’ll look like

People who blah blah blah.
People who XYZ.
People ABC.
People who yakety yak.

And one of the things on the list will always be about slow walkers.

Doesn’t affect me at all in any way. But for some reason it really winds me up.

CroneAVirus · 25/05/2021 19:50

however; if you are disadvantaged due to where you are born/family wealth/opportunities/education or lack of it/role models AND you happen to be black too, you are likely to be even more disadvantaged than a white person

That’s what white privilege means. You may be disadvantaged for all sorts of socioeconomic reasons but your skin colour will never be one of those reasons.

White privilege doesn’t mean you get loads of good things just because you’re white.

I am Scandinavian and my pet peeve is fellow Scandinavians who think that the rest of the world is just as safe as Scandinavia. Just walk into a favella in Brazil with expensive clothes and cameras and be surprised they are mugged. Doing paragliding and not thinking twice about the fact that they are allowed to just jump out of a cliff whereas in Scandinavia you are not allowed to use a paraglider without at least one week's training beforehand ( I had a coworker whose daughter died in a paraglider accident in South America). Going into the Samaria canyon in Crete wearing flip flops and without bringing water and without a hat. Gaaah! Use some common sense!

bleachblondemom · 25/05/2021 20:19

@CroneAVirus thank you, this is what we were trying to explain. You’ve summed it up nicely.

Blueskytoday06 · 25/05/2021 20:21

People referring to their siblings as 'sis' or 'bro'. More 'sis' I hate.

Blueskytoday06 · 25/05/2021 20:23

@CroneAVirus don't read mine ha

NotSure1542 · 25/05/2021 21:05

When people use the word “women” as singular in writing — eg that women is no good! Does my head in!

When people use the word “are” instead of “our” in text! How can you confuse the two?!

ChicFennel · 25/05/2021 22:19

OP or FB posts

"Hit me with xyz recommendation. GO!!!"
"Random nonsense.. DISCUSS"

I find that tone so infuriating.

Moonwatcher1234 · 25/05/2021 22:23

“You got this!” - No I haven’t. Go away.

MumofSpud · 25/05/2021 22:26

@Neonprint

Grammar wankers. No one cares outside of formal communication. Just says more about the grammar wanker than the person making the error, so it just make me feel embarrassed for them.

A verbal version of this is my pet hate. I live in Scotland and a lot of people say 'woman' when they actually mean women. As in 'there were a lot of woman there'. Drives me nuts.
CandidaAlbicans2 · 28/05/2021 11:33

Show offs and influencers. I realise there's money to be made from it but I hate the ME, ME, ME attitude. When I was a child, "showing off" wasn't seen as at all attractive, yet it's rife on social media. I cringe at it all.

ddl1 · 28/05/2021 21:51

Excessive management-speak, especially 'blue-skies thinking' and ''incentivize'. And 'delivering' everything!

noworklifebalance · 28/05/2021 22:48

“Mama” - I don’t mind it when an American refers to their mother this way but it sets my teeth on edge when I hear it with a British accent (I am British). I realise it’s totally irrational.

thelongwayhome · 28/05/2021 22:59

My friend's toddler goes to nursery 2 half days a week. Friend keeps calling it school, as in "my child is at school" and I don't know why but its really winding me up!

thelongwayhome · 28/05/2021 23:01

@Blueskytoday06 even worse- anyone referring to their sister as "sissy". Rage inducing!
