Just a post about being a Northerner/Southerner which made me think - what do you consider as “The North”? I’ve never had a solid answer for this and just wanted to know the general census on this.

Juanbablo · 15/05/2021 20:37

I'm from Berkshire, anything upwards of Birmingham is the north to me.

Tangledtresses · 15/05/2021 20:40

Above the midlands... south, mid, north 🤷🏼‍♀️
I'm a Londoner

worriedatthemoment · 15/05/2021 20:42

beepbeepbonk · 15/05/2021 20:45

Anything past Birmingham is North to me.

inappropriateraspberry · 15/05/2021 20:46

@cardibach I agree, I just used that as a point of reference really.

Mahrezis · 15/05/2021 20:48

Manchester upwards

CathyorClaire · 15/05/2021 20:55

Anything above the Watford Gap.

There be dragons Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 15/05/2021 20:56

Roughly from the Mersey a bit under Sheffield (the top part of the Peak District is too rugged not to at least be honorary north) to somewhere around the Humber.

I live near the middle of the U.K. and of Great Britain... the middle is in the
North.Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 15/05/2021 20:57

@CathyorClaire

Anything above the Watford Gap.

Nah, that's Wales. Dragon
BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/05/2021 21:03

Anything above Nottingham. I mentally draw a lines from around Liverpool/Manchester way directly across to the Humber -, Salford, Sheffield, Doncaster, Hull etc all north.

Zotter · 15/05/2021 21:04

For England, upwards of Stoke on Trent

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 15/05/2021 21:55

Past Birmingham (I am a Londoner)

GintyMcGinty · 15/05/2021 21:56

North is Aberdeen, Inverness etc.

Anything south of Carlisle is "Down South"

Gertie75 · 15/05/2021 22:13

Manchester and Sheffield, that's where the accent changes to northern

CasperGutman · 15/05/2021 22:19

Anything above a line through Crewe, Chesterfield, Worksop and Grimsby.

3peassuit · 15/05/2021 22:21

Staffordshire.

1980tastic · 15/05/2021 22:36

Nottingham is the cut off.. Anything south is south, anything North is the north. Surely?

(England specific though, if we're talking about the UK then Aberdeen ish)

KittyKatChonky · 15/05/2021 22:39

Shetland islands

OwlBeThere · 16/05/2021 01:54

North of Welshpool and Machynlleth.

MattDillonsEyebrows · 16/05/2021 06:47

Here’s a rather lovely poem that explains things from a Midlander’s perspective! We are the middle
Child! 😂
