How much would you need to win

As an aside to the other thread on lottery wins. I’d like to win 1.8 million.

1 million into pension so I never have to work again.

400k to family, friends and charity

300k to buy a lovely house and 100k to keep it that way (maintenance etc).

Other than that, I’d live off the interest (about 10k per year) and have a small part time job!

All figures out 😂

About 80 million would be good. Wink

(I have expensive tastes)

Nah we’d probably be good with 50 grand - we’re both starting businesses WFH this year and that would give us a good two years of food and bills (no mortgage), allowing us to focus on building up income.

BakedTattie · 13/05/2021 21:10

I’d need to win atleast 10 million.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/05/2021 21:12

Well 1 million would be fantastic!

1.8 million even better and 10 million better still!

If I won 350k that would be a life changing amount.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/05/2021 21:13

Sometimes in my fantasy world I win 1 million and sometimes I win 20 million 😂😂

123banana · 13/05/2021 21:13

Wouldn’t you need more than 300k to buy a lovely house? Depends on where you want to live I suppose.

Shoxfordian · 13/05/2021 21:15

I’d like to win 100 million

Thoughtcontagion · 13/05/2021 21:15

80/90 million go big or go home

No point winning a little if I’m going to win may as well win big

About 3 million would be great now if I had to pick

Jillybons · 13/05/2021 21:16

@123banana just on the coast somewhere. Maybe in the North U.K. or maybe in the sun somewhere like Portugal or Spain

Tens of millions, preferably £100m+. I would want to live very, very comfortably off the interest.

Alarae · 13/05/2021 21:17

How much would I need to win for what though?

100k would be a great sum of savings.

300k would pay off our mortgage, with a bit leftover. Not having a 1.2k mortgage payment going out each month would be life changing in itself.

1 mil would be nice, pay off mortgage and have a decent amount left to invest for additional income.

10 mil would probably have me dropping part time (I love my job) and my DH would give his up in an instant and play property developer monopoly.

Anything above that is just gravy. Fancy holidays, cars, buy out my neighbours, give money to family and friends...

BrumBoo · 13/05/2021 21:18

Not greedy me: I'd be thrilled with about 250k. Would buy us a very nice 4 bed in my current area, with more than enough left over to be able to chose to retrain in whatever career I fancied. I could quite happily work for the rest of my life as long as I had the security of a home and enough for childcare/a rainy day. Also a cleaner Grin.

Greedy me: Would want about 20 million plus. Would buy a house in an area I'd actually want to live in (still under 1 Mill I'm sure), make sure the kids had an education that suited them (homeschooling, private, whatever worked best), a housekeeper (at least for the first few years) and I'd look into property investment - not evil Landlord type, I mean doing up absolutely decrepit houses and sell them on. I always wanted to open a cafe as well. Maybe I need more than 20 million Grin.

Neonprint · 13/05/2021 21:18

Tbh 10 to 20 k would be amazing. Anything more and I'd be delighted. We're not bad earners. But we had to buy a cheap house due to deposit. I'd love to move and that amount would help the deposit for the next house.

Obviously being able to buy the house outright would be wonderful!

romdowa · 13/05/2021 21:19

6 million would see me right. Buy a few houses and then live off the interest.

TeamMummy · 13/05/2021 21:20

Realistically, to never have to work again I think it would need to be £2M minimum

A nice detached house in this area would be touching £800k+ and then we'd like to send DD2 to a private school

Holidays, cars, Rolex's, handbags, second home maybe etc etc

picturesandpickles · 13/05/2021 21:21

I wouldn't like to win a lot. It would scare me.

So I'll just take a premium bonds top prize and go quietly about my business.

LemonViolet · 13/05/2021 21:23

1mil would pay off the mortgage, do up the house and garden all at once, and enable me to reduce my working hours long term. That’d be nice.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 13/05/2021 21:29

I would love enough to support my local Air Ambulance and Children's hospice for life, and to buy the new house with a massive games room for the kids. I ain't into extravagance, but I have always wanted to create my own perfume collection and record label!

Warmhandscoldheart · 13/05/2021 21:45

41 million. I'd divide it up between family members. Buy houses for me and my DC, secure my DGC's financial future. Then donate some to local charities.

Camomila · 13/05/2021 22:00

1.8 million sounds perfect.

800k for a nice house
250k each to DBro and BIL towards first houses/flats.
200k each to Dparents and PILs
100k left in the bank for a nice holiday, a bigger car, and to put towards DCs uni fees with some left over for emergencies.

SunshineSuxx · 13/05/2021 22:04

A million would suit me.

Be £333k for each of my DC. Enough to buy them a house outright.

DH and I don't need anything.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 13/05/2021 22:17

7 million please!

1 x million on a house
1 x million between friends and family
1x million to invest in a new business venture
2 x million in passive investments
1 x million to various local charities
1 x million to treat myself some cars, art and a few epic benders

OP, if you've put a million into pension, bought a house and given away the rest, where does the 'living on the interest' come from? The interest on what?
Serin · 13/05/2021 22:28

If I had that much money, I would feel so guilty and would probably give it all away to the first charity appeal I saw. That Simon Reeve programme about the kids in foundries in Bangladesh SadSadSad

Bringminimoons · 13/05/2021 22:30

I would need to Win at least 14 million before I would give up work.

Cherrysoup · 13/05/2021 22:56

8 mil to get the house we want in this area, pay off family mortgages, give a lot away and never have to work again.
