I enjoyed reading the thread on overrated places (so strictly this is a TAAT, sorry) but would love to know where in the UK people think is underrated.
Mine is Nantwich. I'd live there like a shot.

Morecambe. Especially the Midland Hotel.

Grantham is rather interesting as well, random bits of history.

I grew up in Grantham and couldn't wait to escape at 18. I still go back to visit family. It does have some interesting bits, both in the town and in the surrounding area. There was a big house at the end of our road where Bomber Command were based and where the Dam Busters raid was planned and controlled.

I like Chorley. Lovely little theatre, cracking market, some good shops, a new cinema and right on the M6 for trips to the North, or Mancester and Liverpool.

ThistleTits · 13/05/2021 17:37

Glasgow/Liverpool/Belfast

Sazza75 · 13/05/2021 17:42

Coventry

Sausageroll67 · 13/05/2021 17:44

Hereford is lovely.

Bertiebiscuit · 13/05/2021 17:45

Southend esp chalkwell area - I don't know why people are sniffy about it - clean water you can swim in, easy to get to and very friendly

Hazey19 · 13/05/2021 17:45

Birmingham and Liverpool.

Lulu1919 · 13/05/2021 17:45

Hull and the surrounding area

Deathraystare · 13/05/2021 17:48

I agree that not all of Croydon is rank

But a lot of it is!

Maggiesgirl · 13/05/2021 17:49

Inland Dorset/Somerset/Wiltshire borders. Beautiful countryside and some lovely pubs. Most people just drive through yo the coast.

crazycrofter · 13/05/2021 17:51

Maybe Northumberland itself is well known but I was really taken with the county town, Alnwick. Beautiful, quiet, free parking and the amazing Harry Potter castle.

APurpleSquirrel · 13/05/2021 17:52

Agree about Somerset - we get the benefit of proximity to Devon, Cornwall, Dorset for day trips & holidays that are only a short distance away; close to cities like Bristol & Exeter, only 2hrs by train to London, fab countryside, great beaches only an hour or less away & less tourists.

Surroundedbytime · 13/05/2021 17:57

Essex

Mere1 · 13/05/2021 17:59

The Peak District, Derbyshire

Chester, it's a beautiful city! Or... At least I like it. I'd move there if my whole family weren't in the south!

linsey2581 · 13/05/2021 18:00

I think my whole local area is underrated! I work for NHS Tayside Covid community testing team. We have a drive through centre but we also have cars and vans that we go out to test people if they don’t drive or have access to a car. I hadn’t realised how far our NHS area covers, it’s amazing and the sights I’ve seen are just amazing even if it’s been tipping with rain. I’ve covered probably 1000s of miles and the scenery never ceases to amaze me

HesterShaw1 · 13/05/2021 18:01

Herefordshire e.g. Ross on Wye. The Wye is so beautiful.

JudgeJ · 13/05/2021 18:02

@Feather12

Wales. I live in the US and I am not sure many people have even heard of Wales.(not joking) They all get very excited about England, Scotland and Ireland, but never ever mention Wales. It is a magical little place.
When I used to say to people we met in the US that we lived in Northern England we often heard 'Oh, you mean Scotland!'
Spacecadet58 · 13/05/2021 18:02

Herefordshire, especially area around Llantony priory.
Gloucestershire particularly Cheltenham.
Suffolk coast.
Alnmouth and area.
but most of people’s posts are not talking about underrated places (including mine)!
Hull and Birmingham maybe, but since when was The Gower, Peak District and most others underrated?!

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2021 18:03

Scottish Borders vote again. Gets bypassed by people going to Edinburgh. Lovely towns, nice scenery, lovely abbeys.

Glasgow, obviously. Dear green place.

Albless · 13/05/2021 18:06

Largs!

FreddieMercurysCat · 13/05/2021 18:09

@MaMaLa321
I live in Nantwich. It’s not perfect, but it’s not bad. The traffic at peak times is horrendous though.

SingingSands · 13/05/2021 18:10

Surprisingly, Hull. Had the best ever weekend there a few years ago, and I mean the absolute best. Was so surprised!

Ilove · 13/05/2021 18:10

Riddlesden

LynetteScavo · 13/05/2021 18:13

Middlesbrough- I thought it was going to be awful, but it was actually quite pleasant.
