I enjoyed reading the thread on overrated places (so strictly this is a TAAT, sorry) but would love to know where in the UK people think is underrated.
Mine is Nantwich. I'd live there like a shot.

East Riding of Yorkshire. Everybody raves about the Dales and Moors but the Wolds are also lovely (and property is a lot cheaper).

Ripon (preferred it to Harrogate)

Otley (near Leeds)

Sandbach (Cheshire near Northwich)

Beverly , (East Yorkshire)

Newton Poppleford, (East devon, near Sidmouth)

Morpeth, Alnwick, Seahouses, Low Newton (all in Northumberland)

Ely. (Cambridgeshire)

Weymouth

Alderley Edge (North staffordshire)
Mow Cop (ditto)

Forest of Dean area

Crackington Haven (near Bude in cornwall)

Portscatho (west cornwall)

St Just (ditto) . St Just in the Roseland also lovely but I think the St Just near Penzance gets overlooked in comparison

Bradgate Park (near Loughborough area, leicstershire)

North Somerset is fab. Beautiful countryside. Proximity to Bristol and Bath and Cardiff. Coast is nearby. Friendly people. Its a great place to live and I never ever hear anyone mention North Somerset as a brill place to be. Up for doing House Swap holidays with anyone else living in another underrated place in the UK. I love living in Great Britain. So much variety in such a small space....I get excited about all sorts of places...

Somerset - absolutely beautiful still. Likewise the Forest of Dean - beautiful woods and lovely, friendly people who will do anything for you. Reminds me of what Somerset was like about thirty years ago, but with surprisingly good local services. Love it!!!!!!

Beverly, especially the Minster, is worth a look

Definitely Nantwich - Shropshire & Herefordshire too, depending on what you want. Love Shrewsbury, close to countryside & town/good motorway links.

@Bananalanacake

Aldeburgh in Suffolk.
I agree with Aldeburgh. Beautiful place. Also, Holywell Bay in Cornwall.

Leeds city centre is great but there are areas of Leeds which are really horrible. Lived there for a short while and the areas of back to back housing are oppressive and ugly

FaceyRomford · 13/05/2021 18:20

Croydon.

Reading

Middlesbrough- I thought it was going to be awful, but it was actually quite pleasant.
Middlesbrough and Stockton both a pleasant surprise for me. Billingham a bit grotty though.

The surrounding areas of Leeds are why I like it w

Really hoping to see Cumbrian Coast/Western Lakes on here!

We've booked for the summer. Originaliy looking for actual Lake District but too pricey/low availability. Heard the Western side was much less touristy and uncrowded. Was certainly cheaper and seems plenty to do but we will see!!!

Whitehaven is a lovely little town, it’s got its dodgy bits like any town but there’s some nice independent shops and a couple of nice pubs and the harbour is very pretty. The good thing about staying on the Cumbrian coast is you can get to the big draw lakes fairly easy but you aren’t paying a premium, Penrith is my favourite town at the moment.

Two underknown stunning beaches : Bamburgh and St Andrews.

@crazycrofter

Maybe Northumberland itself is well known but I was really taken with the county town, Alnwick. Beautiful, quiet, free parking and the amazing Harry Potter castle.
I fell in love with Alnwick too. Loved the poison garden and Barter Books and also finding a pub which did northumbrian trad music sessions. I stayed at The White Swan which is a beautiful hotel with 1920s style decor and fantastic food
muddyford · 13/05/2021 18:28

Lincolnshire, Shropshire, Northumberland, Wiltshire. I loved Liverpool and I don't 'do' big cities.

Middlesbrough- I thought it was going to be awful, but it was actually quite pleasant.
I went there once, it was awful and the amount of poverty was shocking.

I also discovered they have a george that was a stand alone shop, and not inside an asda.

Love Bamburgh beach and castle, second only to Football Hole, Embleton (overlooked by the ruins of Dunstanburgh castle)

Glad people have mentioned Hull. My son went to Uni there and we were very pleasantly surprised. Hull Old Town has good Dutch influenced architecture and interesting museums and the old pubs are great. Studenty Newlands Avenue is good value and a big shout out to Planet Coffee!

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2021 18:36

Hull also makes the underrated uni list!

Jem57 · 13/05/2021 18:37

Liverpool

@Heyha

Lots of Staffordshire is very nice too, I think. Stafford itself not so much but if you're more of a rural sort it's worth a look.
The areas surrounding The Potteries are lovely. I used to live near Hanley in Stoke on Trent. Stoke on Trent itself is a bit deprived (although I grew to quite like it) but the surrounding areas are very pleasant indeed and the people of the six towns are friendly and kind
Notavegan · 13/05/2021 18:39

Cardiff. I visited for a day 15 years ago and pretty much didn't leave.
Shrewsbury lovely too.
Chester nice, but I ran out of things to do after 1 trip.

babbaloushka · 13/05/2021 18:39

Another for Leeds!

lalafafa · 13/05/2021 18:41
