To think sleeping like this is strange?

I'm up late working on a presentation. I'm sat in bed with my laptop. Husband fast asleep next to me.... head completely covered with the blanket. Nose smooshed into pillow. He sleeps on his stomach and often times lays down completely face first into the pillow. He looks dead.

I just do not understand a) how this can be comfortable and b) how he does not suffocate by the morning

I'm so baffled that he does this, and the thought of me having to sleep like that makes my skin crawl. I want to take the covers off him myself just to ease my anxiety lol

Hahaha am afraid I sleep the same way OP! I usually create a little gap for breathing but am otherwise blissfully faceplanting the mattress.

My DH sleeps with a weird smile on his face - I think that is more odd than how I sleep

If it was a problem he would have died years ago. However the times my husband is too quiet I nudge him to make sure he's alive. I know he's fine but can't relax until I hear breathing 😂 you would be so much more relaxed if you didn't care 😂

Haha I am the same way. But at least my nose is fully clear so I'm not breathing in stuffy hot recycled air from underneath the blanket.

@Asherline I'm actually pretty sure he also has sleep apnea. There have been times he's stopped breathing for like 20 seconds while sleeping on his back. I've had to nudge him to start breathing again. I guess at least this way - face first, the sleep apnea is better 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've told him about it as well and he doesn't believe me or take me seriously.

I’ve been through similar and in the end I couldn’t sleep in the same bed with him as it was like torture, the noise he made snoring and he was always in a deep sleep and taking over all the bed with his arms and legs, it was horrendous.☹️😔.

@WineGetsMeThroughIt if you think he could have sleep apnea he won't understand because he's asleep. Like know one knows of they snore or not unless someone tells them. You need to take Charge and get tests or help if you think it's a problem. He could stopping breathing regularly and would cause issues.
Have you tried anything like a fit bit or any monitor. I'd be interested to see because I have phases of sleep apnea and has a period of getting bad, then improves so I don't do anything about it xx

Yeah, I’d find that weird! I have to have something at least partially over me. If it’s hot, I like sleeping whilst cuddling the duvet so it’s not really over me. Absolutely nothing can be over my face or I feel like I’m suffocating.

I've tried to take video / recordings of it and have played it for him. But he is honestly so bloody stubborn and thinks he's invincible. He says it's nothing to be worried about and thinks I'm overreacting. I need to monitor it more closely again and perhaps turn the lights on to get a proper video

I couldn't sleep like that but it's clearly working for him!

Re possible sleep apnoea...How's his health generally: Weight? Is he tired during the day? Etc

@TaraR2020 if she thinks it's sleep apnea it might not be working for him though. It's funny if he's just a sound sleeper which a lot of people are and do sleep in random positions. But if she think he stops breathing regularly or could be serious.

But some times,one or all of them will move positions in the night,and I will subconsciously move my legs to fit them in somewhere between the cats, and end up with bent legs,and horrible cramps in the night.

But how do you know that you sleep on your back the whole time - as we all shift about in our sleep?

My DH sleeps on his side, legs and arms wrapped round the duvet and a pillow like a koala hugging a tree, with his head tipped RIGHT back so he’s literally facing the headboard 😐 weirdo! I honestly didn’t even know it was possible to tip your head back that far until I saw him sleep 🤣🤣

Most of the time, I sleep on my side with the duvet covering my face and most of my head.

I feel too exposed otherwise. It's a bit like not dangling my exposed feet at the foot of the bed in case the monster under the bed grabs them. 😉

Mine lays flat on his back with his duvet pulled right up over his head, but kind of wrapped round it so his nose is poking out.

This would make me worried about sleep apnoea. Is he tired during the day? Does he snore? Is he overweight?

This is just common sense and good survival instincts. Were a monster, spider or mass murderer to wish to attack me, my duvet will save me!

Not DH, but DS sleeps way under the blanket. Not just slightly covered up, I mean fully, in the middle of the bed so you can’t even see him bar a little bump. I often wonder how he breathes but he still rises each morning! (The odd thing is he won’t sleep without the landing light on, door open but then hides himself away?)
