we are going away for xmas the second week in december till new year, i dont want to have all the hassle of putting up decorations for such a short period of time then get back and have to take them down again.

dh thinks i am being a grinch, dd is 3 and we are doing panto, father xmas before we go, so she will get some taste of what xmas is like. do you think i should or am i justified in not putting them up.

i have told dh mn will decide.

I wouldn't normally put decorations up until the week before Christmas so if I were going way in the second week of December I would not put them up at all - way too early IMO.
Won't there be decs where you are going?

Buda · 15/11/2007 13:42

I wouldn't bother.

We are going away on 19th Dec till after New Year and I was hoping to get away with not putting them up but DS (6) tells me "no way".

Louise2004 · 15/11/2007 13:48

I agree. We're away from the 3rd week of December, so we're not decorating. I've told our dc that they can put up some decorations in their room, though (not much - a Santa and small fake tree will probably be enough to keep them happy!).

Definitely don't bother. Ours go up 4th Sunday of Advent and not a minute before, so we certainly wouldn't in your position.

hifi · 15/11/2007 14:02

i am pleasantly surprised with response, thaught i would get slated. we are in asia so probably no decorations. cant wait to tell dh i win.

i wouldn't bother hifi.

Sparkletastic · 15/11/2007 14:04

Hold up hifi!! Seems a shame to have no deccies at all for DD. How about a few in her room? Go oooooon - just a bit of tinsel....

bonitaMia · 15/11/2007 14:05

let me rephrease that: ...bother , hifi

hifi · 15/11/2007 14:07

might just be able to stretch to a bit of tinsel sparletastic.

I wouldn't bother - I can't wait to take them down again after Boxing Day anyway - it's just more clutter and tut in the house

Tanee58 · 15/11/2007 14:15

I'd not bother - it's too early. But maybe if dh thinks you're being too bah humbug about it, why not just put up some decs in dd's room (or tell dh to do it )! and maybe pack some tinsel for your hotel room? Asian countries usually do something for Christmas anyway, since the Empire stretched so far (she says, saluting the flag...)

TellusMater · 15/11/2007 14:17

God, I love clutter and tat - but I wouldn't in this situation either.

Would probably pack some tinsel for the holiday though

Sparkletastic · 15/11/2007 14:26

Good on yer tinsel fans!!

claireybraxtonhicks · 15/11/2007 14:27

I wouldn't bother. Maybe get your dd an advent calendar as a concession to dh? You can get some nice ones that you can reuse each year-they tend to be more decorative than the chocolate ones (wooden trees with pull out drawers etc).
Or even one of those countdown candle thingys-that way you are acknowledging it without having to go to all the bother of proper decorations.

Tanee58 · 15/11/2007 14:28

and tinsel won't weigh much & you can use it to stuff your clothes to prevent creasing...

Are we selling this to you ?

Chopster · 15/11/2007 14:30

I was debating whether or not to, cos we are flying xmas day, so I def think yanbu!

hifi · 15/11/2007 19:56

sorry been off line all afternoon, i am now going to do a small tree in the office/playroom at home and shove a load of tat to tart up our very stylish hotel room.think that should please everyone.
