Really shaken up. Did I do anything wrong here?

For past two years I have done the school run, I park on a street near the school. There is a detached house with a driveway and a patch of grass next to the driveway. I park in front of the patch of grass, not blocking the driveway whatsoever.

Once I drop my child at school I get collected by my workmate (we are cleaners so have company car) and then work till 3 until I have to return for school run and car.

This morning as I was getting out of the car the lady in the house came charging out, she said 'can you stop parking your car in front of my house?' I said 'it's a public road' and she said 'you park out here 5 days a week, if you refuse to move it I should make you aware that I will be cutting my grass today and any damage to your car is not my responsibility' said with a sarcastic smile on her face, she then walked back into the house shaking her head.

I've left the car but worried now she is going to damage it.

Am I being unreasonable parking it there? It's a public road and not on her property at all.

It's not though is it? We know the OP parks there Monday through Friday during the times that a lot of people would be getting the mower out if they don't have a 9-5 job. And why on earth does it matter if it was or wasn't waist high? The lawn should be done at least twice a month this time of year if you don't want it to look like shit. Most people around here do it weekly.

She's a nasty threatening woman. She can mow her lawn whenever she wants and can even ask a legally parked car to "could you move along please so I could mow the lawn?"

But she doesn't. She makes veiled aggressive remarks because she know she can't force OP to move as she's legally parked. And she won't just ask nicely.

And the grass is not waist high because of course she can bloody mow it. It's just an excuse because she's pissy.

SpeakingFranglais · 10/05/2021 18:41

I do wonder though, on a non restricted road, why does the OP always park in exactly the same spot. Why not just park up on the road in the nearest available space or the one closest to the school, or next to your mate.

Just what is it that makes you always park in exactly the same spot, day after day when you have the whole street.

Hippee · 10/05/2021 18:44

We live on the nearest unrestricted parking street to a local school. It's always parked up, which is only annoying when people park badly/across driveways. If I have one visitor, they can park across our drive. If I have more than one visitor I move my car out onto the road to leave the drive and across the drive free. I'm not the most organised person, but even I can manage that.

cakewench · 10/05/2021 18:45

We live in a quiet area, all detached houses with drives so no real reason to have random people parked outside of our houses. Having said that, I barely notice when we attract the odd car for a few days/ weeks (probably students from the local uni) but it winds my neighbours up to no end (they have a large family and like to use the space in front of ours).

I digress. I just wanted to say, no I wouldn't be bothered, however if I knew someone was using the space every single day like clockwork, and I knew I had a reason to need it that day for a visitor or something, I'd park our car out front to reserve it.

Honestly I kind of like when there's a car out there as it makes it look like people are here when we're gone.

Bluntness100 · 10/05/2021 18:46

Op of course you’re doing nothing illegal but many people would get pissed off by this eventually. You use that space as basically a permanent carpark.

Why do you always park in the same spot. Have you made her house basically your pick up point and you know the road is always empty?

I’d do the same. I like being in the same spot.

The home owner will survive!

RantyAnty · 10/05/2021 18:49

She's been rather patient to have finally said something after you parking there every day for 2 years!

ivykaty44 · 10/05/2021 18:50

I live between 2 schools and people park outside my house. If they are parked legally they have every right to do so.

End of

I once asked a lady driver if she could turn off her engine- she did, no issue

There are much more dangerous things happening on the rds especially outsides schools, so keep doing what your doing as it’s legal

Babymamaroon · 10/05/2021 18:51

It may be legal but it really isn't the done thing.

Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it isn't rude or irritating.

Babymamaroon · 10/05/2021 18:52

isn't illegal

roguetomato · 10/05/2021 18:52

sunglassesonthetable, but did she really make aggressive remarks? We don't know that. And the fact that the OP has been parking there every week day for past 2 years, and this is the first time the owner of the house spoke to her, I really don't know if what op says is 100% true. If she is that confrontational and aggressive person, would she wait 2 years to not to park in front of hers?

Besswess88 · 10/05/2021 18:53

It is illegal to camp in a camper van on a public highway....

caringcarer · 10/05/2021 18:54

I just don't see why you can't drive home park at your own house and get work van to collect you from there. You must realise how annoying you parking outside of someone's house every single school day must be.

caringcarer · 10/05/2021 18:55

How many spaces she has on her drive is nothing to do with you. You are just looking for excuses to justify your annoying behaviour.

BonnieDundee · 10/05/2021 18:56

I know you are legally in the right but can you not see how annoying it must be to have the same person park outside your house all day 5 days a week?

sunglassesonthetable · 10/05/2021 18:57

sunglassesonthetable, but did she really make aggressive remarks? We don't know that.

Rogue - No idea as we weren't there. Can only go go by what the OP ( shaken as she is ) has written.

I think Mower Woman has just blown her top after 2 years and instead of having a quiet word - gone bowling out and acted like a complete muppet with her veiled threats and huffing.

HannaHat · 10/05/2021 18:57

Oh I do love a parking thread ❤️

As long as you weren’t blocking my driveway it wouldn’t bother me tbh, not between those hours. All day every day it probably would.

LowlandLucky · 10/05/2021 18:57

As long as your car is taxed, insured and has a valid M.O.T you can park on a public road. Nobody owns the road in front of their house. Just be polite and make sure you don't block her drive.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 10/05/2021 18:57

@sunglassesonthetable

Well for someone who is such an aggressive and pissy woman, she's done incredibly well to not say a peep in 2 years.

People are just reading into this in the way that creates the most drama. Of course it isn't because she wants to mow her lawn today, it's because she's just a cunt who wants to frighten poor little OP and possibly fuck up her car.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/05/2021 18:57

@BonnieDundee

I know you are legally in the right but can you not see how annoying it must be to have the same person park outside your house all day 5 days a week?
I must be barmy because I honestly can't see how this would be annoying at all if I had a four car drive like mower lady does. I genuinely don't get it.
TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/05/2021 18:59

It's not illegal, but it's a bit assholey if you do it every day, especially when you know the owner dislikes it.

There must be somewhere you can park that is beside a wall or something.

SonnyWinds · 10/05/2021 19:04

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's not annoying as hell. Why is it that it's only on parking threads that people think abiding by the letter of the law means you're morally in the right.

MrsMackesy · 10/05/2021 19:04

There is no diagram?! The OP is BU based on that fact alone. This is an illegal parking thread and must be reported and taken down immediately.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/05/2021 19:04

Well for someone who is such an aggressive and pissy woman, she's done incredibly well to not say a peep in 2 years.

Well done herHmmconsidering Op is um, parking legally.

All in all I'd say she's brought the drama. What with veiled threatening.

What's wrong with "could you please move your car along, so I can mow with no chance of damaging your car?"Grin

But it's not really about the mowing is it?

daisypond · 10/05/2021 19:04

I wouldn’t notice or care if the same car was parked outside my house. There is always someone parked there anyway. It’s a public road. I can’t believe that anyone would get annoyed by that.
