Expecting twin boys in a few months and my shortlist of names is only 4 names long.

My sister in law’s sister has taken 2 of the names fairly recently. I’ve only met her once, she lives very far away and probably will only see her and her children every few years if that, but it would leave my brother and sister in law as having two nephews with the same name, and their son with two cousins with the same name

That’s too weird right?

Names 3&4 have been vetoed for other reasons So I’m back to the drawing board. As if naming one child wasn’t difficult enough!

YABU: use the names you like and don’t worry about the other children
YANBU: you can’t use them, too weird

I had a difference of opinion with my Mum over this.

My uncle through marriage (so married to my Mum’s sister) his nephew (his brother’s son) named their child the same name as my cousin. (So my Aunty’s niece on her side) my Mum thought it was wrong as that means my uncle had 2 nieces with the same name.

I disagreed. If I was his nephew, I never crossed paths with his other niece (they’ve had maybe two family parties they both attended in 30 years) and he wouldn’t be talking/referring to her at all (why would the unrelated nephew ever need to refer to that niece).

I would use the names you want that is far too remote.

I couldn't even name SIL'S siblings and can only think of one of their kids' names

They are not family, so who cares.

I've two cousin John's and Patrick's on one side of the family , an uncle John on both sides. A few Jennifer's as 1, 2 nd cousins , 2 liams one either side. Mary's galore as well. And my own name is everywhere on one side as well in different variations. I'm just known as mikes romdowa. Honestly I wouldn't sweat it at all. Its usually easy to clarify in my family which one is being spoken about

I misread and though you said Sil but as it her sister, enough of a distance to not worry about it, you like the names so use them.
