Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

You need to ask yourself how you'd feel if it were the other way round.

I think you're being VU to be honest. Surely it could be waited an hour.

MizMoonshine · 09/05/2021 10:45

Btw I live in a terraced house in a street full of kids with neighbours (who like reggae) that listen to music on sunny days and smoke weed in their garden and whip out their lawn mowers and let their kids use the expensive bloody trampoline whenever the sun dares to show up.
People have to live.

Missfelipe · 09/05/2021 10:46

I think it’s fine. Our neighbours expect us to put up with their noise while we attempt to WFH...we have to attempt to block out all sorts of bloody gardening/DIY activity. We work long hours and tbh early on a Sunday would be prime time for us to get stuff like that out of the way so we could enjoy our day.

@Bluedeblue

People with small kids who are up at the crack of dawn seem to forget that others may want a lie in - especially on a Sunday. You were being massively unreasonable.

Your poor neighbours have been woken up by your noisy mower and now they have to listen to kids on a bouncy castle all day. Poor sods.

The horror. A one off birthday party (that's what it sounds like from the OP). The humanity. However will they cope.

Good grief have a word with yourself. I don't have children and I also find children shouting and screaming very, VERY annoying, but a one off party? I'd cope for the day.

Looneytune253 · 09/05/2021 10:47

It is really inconsiderate, sorry. It's very early on a Sunday. I was peed off yesterday when there was a loud delivery next door lol. Not their fault tho but they were shouting to each other and clattering and banging. I would have been quite cross if they were mowing or something.

Chunkymenrock · 09/05/2021 10:48

Very inconsiderate of you. 8.30 is too early.

PhilCornwall1 · 09/05/2021 10:49

All this "popping around to tell the neighbours" this and that, where does it end? It's like you have to seek their approval to do anything.

DoodleLovin · 09/05/2021 10:49

@sirfredfredgeorge FYI, I’m a nurse.

I was more thinking of my partner who works 8-6 during the week.

DoItAfraid · 09/05/2021 10:50

@nicenicenice

If anyone yelled out of a window at me I would get up and do it every single Sunday!
hahahahahhahaha - my fellow Pettyville friend ;-)

Good grief 🤣🤣

Equally, people without small children seem to forget that many parents may want their children in bed asleep at 8pm, yet still make noise in their gardens late into the evening.
SoupDragon · 09/05/2021 10:58

You should have knocked on their door at 8am to warn them. 😂

Christmasfairy2020 · 09/05/2021 10:59

It can't have been 830 as you posted this at 831

MyOctopusFeature · 09/05/2021 10:59

@RickJames

I live in Germany, here your neighbours would have called the Police who would come round, order you to stop and fine you Grin

I think that's a bit extreme but I appreciate that it stops people making a racket every Sunday (just because they've got some special and exceptional reason to upset the neighbourhood.)

I'd expect further dirty looks when the neighbours see the castle going up and realise that the peace will be shattered with the screams of excited children all afternoon.

That’s really mind boggling. Germans are up at 4:30 am when on holiday to bagsy the beach chairs.
Tambora · 09/05/2021 11:00

You're not supposed to cut grass that early in the morning, you're supposed to wait until the dew has dried off, otherwise the blades slip on the wet and don't cut the grass blades cleanly. It makes the cut tips go brown.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 09/05/2021 11:10

I personally think it's okay - I wouldn't get annoyed, but i'm normally up at six. I wouldn't cut my grass before 10am and that's any day of the week.

Wowyouareboring · 09/05/2021 11:10

My neighbours do this, can’t say it bothers me that much and it’s not that early

Washimal · 09/05/2021 11:11

Do people really get this upset about being woken at 8.30am?? I can't believe all these posts saying they would be "raging", "fuming", that OP should have pre-warned her neighbours to lesson the terrible shock and must bring them wine and cake (wtf?) to apologise for how awful she's been. You must spend your life in a perpetual state of blind rage if something as completely run-of-the-mill as the sound of a lawnmower at 8.30am is such an affront to you. It's not like she was out there at 5am! Surely this comes under the category of mildly irritating, something that annoys you momentarily but then you get over it and get on with your day. It's not an offence that justifies OP's neighbour shouting at her.

Moonpeg · 09/05/2021 11:17

A few weeks ago, I had been kept awake by my neighbour across the road with his hot hub. 2/3 in the morning, even on a Sunday night. I can tell he pissed a lot of people off as at least 4 and I’m not kidding of my neighbours were up cutting grass, deep cleaning driveways and generally making a lot of noise at 8 in the morning lol

That sounds cool but do they start making noise at 0830?
Proudboomer · 09/05/2021 11:25

I wouldn’t think anything of it as in my road it is perfectly normal to be up and working in the garden at 8.30.
I live in a road of only 8 houses. We are the only household bar one other with working aged residents everyone one else is retired so could capture their grass during the week but if they want to do it at the weekend it is none of my business and any noise is normal household noise. If we get a hot summer pretty much everyone in the road will be cutting the grass early.

GintyMcGinty · 09/05/2021 11:26

I understand why you are doing it but its too early. 9am very earliest.

I also understand why your neighbour is pissed off.

EL8888 · 09/05/2021 11:27

@DeepNorthFarmGardening good point about the timings. Logically if was pre 830 which is even worse

It was selfish. Do you work? I work hard all week, sometimes work 6 days. Sunday is often my only day off and lie in

LincolnshireYellowBelly · 09/05/2021 11:28

8:30 is absolutely fine by me, but we have a rule in our family of no noisy jobs before 9am

newnortherner111 · 09/05/2021 11:29

If I'd been the neighbour I'd have thought it a one-off perhaps if it had been in late September, but I'd be thinking it could be every week for the summer given it is early May.
