Whenever someone says they/someone they know is stunning,all i ever want to ask is what do they look like.

Not because i doubt them, not at all, i just really want to know what does a stunning woman look like TO THEM.

I have never met, or seen Lady Helen Taylor in person, but I met The Duchess of Kent in about 1986 and she was stunning. Petite but with presence and charisma.

My mum met the Duchess of Kent a few times in the lates 70s snd 80s and is still banging on about her today!

We’ve discussed it and I’ve said I can see she was pretty but nothing special and my mum says she was luminous and you’d have to be in the room with her to appreciate her presence.

My mum is very into her fashion and could name lots of models and actresses but she says that the Duchess of Kent really stands out.

I thought the Anne of Cleves post was a joke but then I went and googled the portrait and really looked at it, without my prejudices of “all those paintings look vaguely the same” and “poor Anne, imagine being known for all eternity for your ugliness and slack breasts thanks to your charming husband”...

And it’s true. She’s rather lovely.

@StoneofDestiny

Women who ooze intelligence, talent and integrity.
This. What someone has to say has more impact than how symmetrical their features are or how glamourous they are. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche is beautiful but it's her brain that makes her worth watching and listening to.
schnubbins · 08/05/2021 09:26

I see Yasmin Le Bon mentioned here quite often .A friend of mine had a job in the 90's where she met many celebs and the at the time supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Co.I remember her saying that from all of them Yasmin le Bon stood out the most and was absolutely stunning.

Poorlykitten · 08/05/2021 09:30

Not Keira Knightly, she’s vacuous. I knew someone who taught her and he said so too. I think stunning is something unquantifiable but has to do with Grace, poise and elegance and beauty of course. Lots of people mentioned are pretty or beautiful but wouldn’t necessarily say stunning.

bluetongue · 08/05/2021 09:33

@Ginuwine

Great facial bone structure, height, big eyes, good hair, ideally tall - and at their best weight
Oh dear. It’s a no for me to all of those Grin I could sort the weight one out I guess but the rest are never going to happen.
GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 08/05/2021 09:42

Priscilla Presley

Appletreehat · 08/05/2021 09:42

Monica Bellucci - she is beautiful now but when she was younger..wow! I thought she was one of the most beautiful woman ever.
Margot Robbie, Léa Seydoux, Marion Cotillard (I saw her in person once, she is so naturally stunning) Beyoncé, Scarlet Johannson, Eva Mendes..

They are all glamorous & stunning to me - I think it's the way they carry themselves too.

Papadontpreachimintroubledeep · 08/05/2021 09:44

There's a girl at my running club who says I'm stunning ( she's not said it to me, she's said it to several people who've told me).. I always wonder whats wrong with her to think that of me Grin
But in seriousness:
Angelina Jolie
Aishwarya Rai

sandgrown · 08/05/2021 09:47

Many years ago my husband had just left me for OW and as a consequence I had lost a lot of weight . I attended a work event and the following day a colleague said her mum had asked who the stunning girl with the long dark hair was ( me ??) .What a confidence boost when I really needed it. I have never forgotten that comment .

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/05/2021 09:58

I know it shouldn’t ... but that must made you feel like a million $!

WeightyMama · 08/05/2021 09:59

What is stunning?

Being beautiful and being sexually attractive are often two different things.

Slipperfairy · 08/05/2021 10:00

Isn't everyone who posts a picture of themselves on fb 'stunning or 'beautiful, hun'?

But back in the real world, it's Debbie Harry in her younger days. I think her face is fascinating. But I think it's bony, angular faces that are striking. I think the sort of softer faces tend to be pretty. I can never decide whether marilyn monroe is extremely pretty or tips into beautiful. I think Sheila Hancock is beautiful too.

Lostinthewilderness · 08/05/2021 10:02

Mila Kunis
Helena Christensen
Kaia Gerber (Cindy Crawford daughter)

But no.1 for me is Eva Mendes

I also thought Cheryl Tweedy was incredibly pretty before all the fake teeth & hair

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 08/05/2021 10:05

Someone whose face you literally can stop gazing at!
I remember meeting friends once and I walked in and there was a new girl, I actually stopped dead in shock, she was soooo beautiful! All night I felt ridiculous stealing glances at her not wanting to seem obvious. The funny thing is all the friends were really beautiful girls but she stood out a mile, she was a model, no one famous and had the grace of being an ex ballet dancer.
I'm not romantically into girls all, I certainly did not fancy her, I just appreciate beauty.

@Chocolatier9 apparently Henry deemed her ‘too unattractive to marry’ not because she actually was, but because she damaged his ego. He did the dress up thing he usually did and she didn’t fawn over him and he was hurt so he said she was too ugly to remained married to to save himself. Awful really, as she has carried that label throughout history and she is always ignored amongst his wives. Mind you, Cromwell was killed for it so I guess she didn’t have it that bad...
BikeRunSki · 08/05/2021 10:09

Natural self confidence.
I do a lot of outdoor sports and work on construction sites. Makeup, hair dos and fancy shoes are not part of my life really at all. But the women I know who manage multimillion pound sites, climb mountains, win bike races, swim wild and various other non-glam activities with confidence and panache - that’s stunning.

Years ago, I overheard a conversation between DH, DBro (9 years older than me) and some of their (male) friends, discussing how their ideal women were mountain bikers/skiers etc who could hold their own with men - basically me and SiL. DBro said “that’s all great, I love a woman who does that stuff, but wait until you see her hold your first baby. That’s stunning”. I remember him saying stunning. It was a heart warming moment.

@Genderwitched

I fell in love with Gene Tierney in The Ghost and Mrs Muir when I was young, I thought she was the most beautiful person I had ever seen.
Agree she was stunning
KatChocolate · 08/05/2021 10:19

@BikeRunSki that's beautiful and yes I agree.

Fluffbutt · 08/05/2021 10:26

Amber Heard
Anna Nicole Smith
Naomi Campbell
Angelina Jolie

They’ve all got something that I find breathtaking about them!

ihavethehighground · 08/05/2021 10:26

Gal Gadot. Feminine, athletic, strong, vibrant

Imissmoominmama · 08/05/2021 10:28

Women who look effortlessly beautiful- no (or very little make up), healthy hair and skin.

KatChocolate · 08/05/2021 10:30

I also agree with a pp, I think women who have the features to carry off a short hairstyle, for me I’m thinking Emma Willis, are naturally stunning, the jawline, the eyes, cheekbones etc.

I’ve been called pretty all my life (stunning by my DH Wink) but if I had my hair cut short I’d look like one of The Beatles! I need hair and make up to even get to the pretty level Grin Pretty schmitty!
