They are selling a 'Mary' costume. It's a blue princess dress, with a stuffed oviod with a baby face.

Mary was poor. She was not a ####### princess, she did not have a shiny, lacy blue polyester ankle length gown with puffed sleeves.

Should add, I think Woolwoths are bloody awful for pandering to the notion that all girls are allowed to aspire to is to be pretty.

Mary Mother Of God stands for suffering, virginity, nobility of spirit, all that is good and motherly, and they reduce her to blue polyester.

I am not religious, actually, but I hate the messages sent to girls about appearance. "Ohhh, you don't want to wear what Mary would really have worn, that's not pretty! Lets get you back into your nice little box Princess Gown where you belong. Smile for the audience!"

Obviously I am merely picking a fight then

i think you shoudl write to them telling them that you find it highly offensive on religous grounds - i think if you post in the spitituality section or on the prayer thread we could get quite a movement going here - mary is also an important figure in islam for being the mother of a prophet - i think woolies could have potentially pissed off 2 of britains biggest religeons - start a war onthe capitalist pigs and i shall follow you til death colditz

I agree with you, Colditz. The others are all scrapping on the porn thread...

LadyOfWaffle · 14/11/2007 23:24

Just had a look, it is abit princessy (?!) isn't it. Wonder what a Joseph one would be like!

LadyOfWaffle · 14/11/2007 23:25

Or dress up as Jesus with a bling crown instead of thorns.

colditz · 14/11/2007 23:26

Ohhh two, eh? I didn't know that about the Muslim religion.

Hmmm. It would be very hypocritical of me to complain on religious grounds. My religion is not offended, but my sense of all that is wholesome, my sense of spirituality, is offended deeply.

its truly disgusting. how do i complain.

marthaboo · 14/11/2007 23:36

I'm also pretty sure Mary didn't have red toe nails.

Shitemum · 14/11/2007 23:37

i think maybe they are just trying to tap into the 'oh no, i have to make a Mary costume for the school nativity play' thing...

Do they have a nice Salome one too with a stuffed poliester John the Baptist's head on a sparkly plate?

Woolworth's is a running joke in my family - I have been going into the one in my Mum's street for 30 years AND, get this, THEY NEVER HAVE WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, EVER!!!

lazymoo · 14/11/2007 23:40

You are so right, last year dniece was devestated when I made her a Mary dress as she (much to my sisters horror) wanted one from Wollies, me, I thought it was hilarious ... just.

maximummummy · 14/11/2007 23:45

wow that's gorgeous do they do it in size 16?

ClassAct · 14/11/2007 23:48

Well, to some tastes she is immaculately dressed.....

but then this from the Scotsmanbusiness.com..

"Woolies shares on the rise
SHARES in Woolworths lifted 3.6 per cent to 21.25p yesterday despite the group saying same-floorspace sales had dipped 0.4 per cent in the 38 weeks to 27 October."

So not all bad then?

He does move in mysterious ways.

Tortington · 14/11/2007 23:57

colditz · 15/11/2007 00:03
