It's mine and DH's 10th anniversary in November and we're looking at going to Las Vegas for 3/4 days at the end of October. We had the big white church wedding I wanted but DH wants us to renew our vows with Elvis Grin

I'm not a massive gambler but don't might a flutter. I would rather go to Boston but DH thinks I will bore him with history I would

Convince me that LV is great please!?

I went there for a week when I was too young to gamble. Lovely pretend beach in hotel grounds. Lovely library and there is a decent amount of entertainment for non-gamblers.

Sorry, but I hated it, did a long trip around America across 17 states and it was the worst place we went to. I think it didn’t help that there was a heatwave and it was 47C at the time, couldn’t even get any relief in the pool as it was like a warm bath. It also doesn’t help that I’m not a gambler, and I’m not impressed by gigantic portions of food. It’s a place worth visiting just to see it because it’s iconic, but I wouldn’t be rushing to go again, same with LA. New Orleans was incredible though, would fully recommend going there for a more authentic experience.

I LOVED Vegas. Not a gambler, thought I would hate it, but DH persuaded me to go for my 30th and it was so much fun. We've been back a few times since and I've loved it every time. I've stayed at the SLS, Mandarin Oriental (now the Waldorf Astoria) and the Cosmopolitan, plus a Green Valley Ranch off the strip, and I really rate the Cosmo and the MO.

The dining is excellent, as is the people watching and the bar scene. I also really enjoyed the Cirque du Soleil shows, the Rose Rabbit Lie supperclub, Absinthe and their sister show Opium.

Oh and the spas. THE SPAS. The one at the MO has a view across the strip and it's so beautiful. I spent hours and hours in there and at their guests only pool. It was so quiet and relaxing. I also had a day at the Sanctuary Spa at the Hard Rock Hotel (RIP) and loved it.

We also went to the Marquee Pool Party (hilarious) and for my 30th, Clubbing at Tao and at 1OAK. I love dressing up, so we also did some posh dinners at Hakkasan, Asia de Cuba and Bazaar Meat's by Jose Andres. Plus the bar at the Mandarin Oriental with beautiful views and even more beautiful cocktails, and the Chandelier bar at the Cosmopolitan.

Eurgh. I can't wait to go back. I live in the US, but 23 month old DS would put a bit of a dampener on it (he'd love it though...).

It's a sh*t hole, loads of beggars, rough sleepers & Mexican/Latino women on every corner hustling any man you're with by trying to force them to take 'prostitute photo business' cards' with the promise of offering really good deals on girls!!! They were doing this day and night & didn't care whether men were with families or were elderly or teenagers, anyone was fair game. When my husband challenged one of these women 2 very menacing guys suddenly appeared & it just felt really unsafe.
Mind you I thought the Bellagio fountains were great!

Like others we only went as it was a stop off on the way to the Grand Canyon on a post-graduation road trip five years ago with DS and his GF. Someone above described it like living in a comic strip which is very accurate. We actually really enjoyed ourselves (yet don't do shows or theme parks or gambling at home) and went with the flow and had a great time for a couple of days. Winning $500 on a slot machine for a $1 stake in Caesar's palace was a highlight for me.

We stayed at the Wynn once and the Bellagio the other times. The Wynn panoramic rooms are lush (and massive), Bellagio is beautiful.

We ate at Gordon Ramseys Steak and did the Hells Kitchen taster menu, it was amazing. There are some reasonably priced restaurants also, just a side road off the strip out of the big hotels makes a huge difference. One trip we didn't eat or drink out of the main hotels and we spent about £2.5k just on food and drink in 5/6 days (a round of 6 shots $300, didn't think to check the price first) 2 cocktails and a portion of popcorn chicken and chips at Bellagio pool nearly $100 but if you eat in places like Outback or some of the buffets they are much more reasonable.

We got a great deal with Virgin, £700 each for flights and 4 nights at The Wynn in a panoramic room with buffet breakfast, that was early November.

the hotels smell of farts, fags and air freshener...

Vegas can be fun if you take it at face value. (But I love flash and trash.)

Boston is just fabulous, one of my favourite places in the world, do keep it on your wish/to-do list.

RoseMartha · 06/05/2021 19:30

I have been to Vegas it was part of a touring holiday. Stayed 2 nights in a non themed hotel.

I wasnt looking forward to it at all. But .... I actually preferred it to NYC where I had been on a different trip.

We didnt spend any money in the casino's. Just not my thing generally, (other than the odd lottery ticket occasionally).

But we did enjoy walking round all the hotels and resorts sight seeing and went on an excursion to Hoover Dam.

This is so key to enjoying Vegas! Embrace the gauche and tackiness Grin

MozzchopsThirty · 06/05/2021 19:41

I went for 4 nights but flew business

It's dirty, unsafe, slutty, busy, lots of homeless
Which was ok it was my 40th
I'd go back to get married but wouldn't rush back

rarzy · 06/05/2021 22:06

What I loved about Vegas is you can sit in a hotel lobby & see someone walking past in swimwear, hiking gear, wedding attire, club wear, etc anything goes!
