It's mine and DH's 10th anniversary in November and we're looking at going to Las Vegas for 3/4 days at the end of October. We had the big white church wedding I wanted but DH wants us to renew our vows with Elvis Grin

I'm not a massive gambler but don't might a flutter. I would rather go to Boston but DH thinks I will bore him with history I would

Convince me that LV is great please!?

People who compare it to Blackpool clearly haven't been to either or have zero originality and are just parroting what others say.

There is no money in Blackpool whatsoever, there aren't many lights any more either.

I'm a Vegas fan. Mind you I went in mid-20s. Thought I would never go back (seen it/done it kinda way) but to be honest now I think I would. Great hotels and food and the shows are great. Its really fun.

sundowners · 06/05/2021 12:20

I LOVE Vegas. Literally some of my happiest moments in the past 10 years! I long to go back.

I got married in Vegas nearly 14 tears ago and loved it. I don't know how much it's changed since then though. We are not gamblers at all and tbh didn't really take any notice of the slots. It was expensive to eat out though I remember. I found the experience very surreal and would definately recommend it. We stayed for 7 days I think, we had planned to head to San Francisco after Vegas but it didn't materialise. If you have any questions about the wedding itself feel free to ask.

PugInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 12:40

Absolutely love Vegas, we have done 4 nights up to 14 nights at various times. We have rarely gambled, there is just so much to do. If we could afford it we would go every year. There are loads of good groupons you can get before, we did a 4 hour all you can drink in a bar on the strip for £20 Grin

UCOinanOCG · 06/05/2021 12:41

We went to Vegas as part of a longer road trip. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't go back. It was very tacky. I have been to Boston many times. It is my favourite US city. There is so much to do and see and the flights are much shorter. I vote Boston!

PugInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 12:43

It is most definitely nothing like Blackpool Hmm

DianeCherry · 06/05/2021 12:50

It's an absolute pit.

MorganKitten · 06/05/2021 12:55

I love it and I’m not a gambler, there’s lots of day trips, shows and shopping you can do.
We did a ranch day with horses, dune buggies, lots of the shows, I had to get a second suitcase due to the shopping.

Sidge · 06/05/2021 12:56

I’m going in October and can’t bloody wait!

I know it’s glitzy, tacky, trashy, supersized and artificial but I don’t care. I want to experience it all. I want to have new experiences in a new place, try new food and drink, do things I’ve never done before. That’s the joy of travelling, even if you decide it isn’t your favourite place and you won’t ever go back you can say to yourself hey I’ve been there and done that.

Tal45 · 06/05/2021 12:57

I'd rather go LV than Boston personally, Boston is just an American city whereas LV is like nowhere else on earth! I wouldn't go to Blackpool and can't imagine how anyone could compare the two! I wouldn't go all the way for 3 or 4 days though tbh, I'd stay 3 or 4 days and then tour the national parks or something.

Walking along the strip and seeing all the crazy hotels is so much fun - it's a long way to walk all the way though!! I went years ago but there's so much to see/do for free the fountains at the Bellagio and botanical gardens, the pirate show at Treasure Island, the flamingo wildlife habitat, the forum shops and animatronics at Caesars palace, the aquarium at Silverton, the volcano at the Mirage, the canal at The Venetian, The Luxor - the hotels are just crazy. There are great restaurants and shows as well - I was just a backpacker so was staying at a hostel and doing the free things.

There is the seedy side too, men giving out cards with pictures of women and when i walked down the strip one evening I had a man pull over thinking I was a prostitute :-O I wasn't dressed up particularly either. I'd go back with OH though and stay somewhere a bit better and go to some of the big shows - I've seen cirque in the UK but I'd like to see it there.

BeechTreeView · 06/05/2021 13:00

I quite enjoyed the novelty the first time...but was v glad to leave after 3 nights. Been back a few times, because things worked out that way rather than by choice.

The hoover dam is brilliant, we enjoyed the area 51 museum. Theres great places to eat. We saw penn and teller. Cirque de soliel meh. grand canyon amazing but you need an overnight at least.

IanHBuckells · 06/05/2021 13:00

Some of these replies have made me LOL over my lunch.

I think I'm convinced!

To the PP who asked if we can go to America this year, I think so/hope so and by then we will have been fully vaccinated. We would book through BA who were fab with another holiday last year (refunded in full within 3 days).

Stay at the Venetian or the Bellagio and you will have a great time. Shows, restaurants, a bit of black Jack. Don’t try to walk anywhere because Vegas isn’t built to scale, so something that looks close is actually enormous and far away.

luckylavender · 06/05/2021 13:11

I loved Vegas. Went there for 4 nights for our son's 21st. Not gamblers. Loads to see & do. I'm a typical Thailand person. Loved it.

Imagine blackpool, but much, much worse.

EverythingisBlossom · 06/05/2021 13:38

Just for context, our normal holidays are city breaks based around museums, galleries etc, or hillwalking holidays in the UK. Boston is on my must-do list but we've done other parts of USA and Canada - absolutely love San Francisco, Chicago, NY, Toronto and Vancouver.

OldWivesTale · 06/05/2021 13:54

It's quite a depressing place. Unless you just go for the vows then hire a car and go to Grand Canyon, Death Valley etc on a bit of a road trip.

19lottie82 · 06/05/2021 13:56

I went about 6 years ago and thought I’d like it, but I still can’t make up my mind tbh. All I will say is that everything is REALLY EXPENSIVE.

I much prefer New York, it’s closer too.

OP I always like to fly BA but I know a few people who have done that flight and also work for BA and they (pre covid) always put the really old planes on that route

Obviously may have changed now that a lot have been scrapped but something to consider if that is important to you

lazylinguist · 06/05/2021 14:03

Sorry - I can think of few places I'd like to go less!

rarzy · 06/05/2021 14:05

I enjoyed it but had thought I would hate it.
Some very good restaurants & shows. Just walked around the hotels during the day eg went on a gondola, rollercoaster, the tall thing. Also did a helicopter over the dam & GC which was fun.

SofiaMichelle · 06/05/2021 14:07

I really don't like Vegas. We've been a few times when taking a bit of a diversion on big road trips on the West Coast, and 2 or 3 days is plenty for me.
