Sainsburys

Sainsburys has really gone downhill recently IMO.

I have used Sainsburys home delivery for over a year due to shielding and was very grateful for it, but recently I have had items missing and have been charged for, also every week there are every day items missing from the website.

This week I booked my usual spot which has always been free delivery only to find they now charge £4.00, I rang them to discover they no longer do free delivery.

AIBU to think they should have informed their customers of this decision instead of sneakily just adding the cost to their account.

It will be Waitrose all the way for me from now on.

When did they do free delivery?

Report

BeefSupreme · 04/05/2021 14:02

If can afford to shop in Waitrose, you can afford an extra £4

Until very recently, @Crunchymum - although usually in unsociable slots. I’m using them more rarely for the same reason.

Surely they always charge, but you can get a saver slot for £1 which is a pretty good deal Id say.

BeefSupreme I have to travel 10 miles to my nearest sainsburys so it still works out cheaper for me to get delivery from Waitrose, and get decent quality food and more choice, much better customer service too.

That doesn’t really make sense. Maybe the OP would have always preferred Waitrose, but used Sainsbury’s due to free delivery. Now Sainsbury’s doesn’t have that advantage, she may as well use Waitrose.

No, Sainsbury's have been brilliant this year. Excellent service and rarely items missing!

Also their delivery times are reliable and easily available in my area.

For the hassle of £4 to a dearer shop I wouldn't bother complaining about it!

Not necessarily. I've recently started shopping with Waitrose.

Low income family but if you shop via offers there's more than decent savings.

I've been pleasantly surprised actually

Have a look and see for yourself. The offers make the prices cheaper than elsewhere and the products are good quality

I always used to have my delivery on a thursday which was free but a lot of the items had use by dates of the day after delivery and a lot of the fruit and veg ended up in the bin.

It’s £4 for a one hour slot, you can pick a 4 hour slot (and they give you a one hour timeframe on the day) for £1. I have a midweek delivery pass, £10 for 3 months & you can book any one hour slot Tues-Thurs for fee if you have the delivery pass.

Why don't you try Waitrose and see how it goes?

I have always used Sainsburys (pre pandemic) and have a delivery pass.

Having a DC on the shielding list meant I was able to get a slot with them almost every week during the lockdowns and never had many missing items (barring the stuff that was sold out everywhere in Mar / April 2020). However its been the past month or so I've had issues.
I've had odd substitutions (last week I had to give back £20 worth of sub's as they were nothing like the original item ordered) and the week before no milk was available. We always order red, green and blue (and soya) and not one drop turned up? Very odd.

Overall though, I am quite loyal to Sainsburys! They'd need to piss me off a bit more to get me to go elsewhere.

I haven’t had the problems you are experiencing, you should complain & send back the items that aren’t in good condition. It depends on who picks the products. You’ll definitely pay more at Waitrose and although I like their stuff, I’ve had far more items not being available with Waitrose than Sainsbury’s. But it is down to where you live

I’m a bit annoyed with them this week. They sent me mouldy apples. Like rotted, white mould growing apples. And instead of refunding me, they’ve given me a voucher for the amount they cost. Just seems very dodgy.

It was the delivery charge that was the last straw for me, along with substandard food, short use by dates and fewer items available, sainsburys have lost my custom after more than 30 years.

It does sound like your store isn’t very good. I’d definitely complain and let them know why you’re no longer shopping with them. I’ve definitely not had any of the issues you’re describing

I've moved to Waitrose after two deliveries of mouldy food. How anyone could have picked veg that was visibly slimy and rotten is beyond me. They refunded with no quibble which was good but I'd rather they didn't send it in the first place.

I have to stand up for sainsburys as they have been consistently brilliant for my deliveries. I think you're doing a fab job Team Sainsburys.

When you log in and click book delivery there is a blue banner bit that says no more free slots from 27 April. Various price slots, mine is 2 pounds tomorrow evening. Just the same as anywhere else really.

I always suspect that people who say they're not shopping somewhere any more will be back sharpish if someone sends them a financial incentive to book again.

I’ve had no problem with them. I usually shop with Tesco’s but I don’t like that they have a item limit on how much you can buy, as a family of 5 I was finding it difficult so I decided to try Sainsburys and it’s been fine however I’ve seen a few threads on here complaining about them so you are not alone in it but for me it’s been fine

Asda only did free delivery for shielding people for a few weeks. I didn’t mind them charging at all until I realised it costs us more.
They let us keep the priority slot but don’t let you buy a delivery pass so it actually costs us double for deliveries than it would to have the delivery pass. They also took the slots off us over Xmas and new year.

I’m still very grateful that we have the slot and were given it in the first place. I never expected it free but it was a nice bonus.
