Sainsburys

Sainsburys has really gone downhill recently IMO.

I have used Sainsburys home delivery for over a year due to shielding and was very grateful for it, but recently I have had items missing and have been charged for, also every week there are every day items missing from the website.

This week I booked my usual spot which has always been free delivery only to find they now charge £4.00, I rang them to discover they no longer do free delivery.

AIBU to think they should have informed their customers of this decision instead of sneakily just adding the cost to their account.

It will be Waitrose all the way for me from now on.

Never used them for delivery but my nearest Sainsbury's is awful. Badly stocked, short dated if not out of date food and staff who generally don't give a shit. They have been quieter since Aldi opened nearby so I really hope they are feeling it.
The manager wafts around like a complete wazzock.

I have never had free delivery from Sainsbury’s, only the £1 four hour slot.

We can only go on our own experiences, until recently mine have been very good but unfortunately they have definitely gone downhill. I guess it all comes down to where you shop and personal choice. I have made mine.

@DaisyFeather

I’m a bit annoyed with them this week. They sent me mouldy apples. Like rotted, white mould growing apples. And instead of refunding me, they’ve given me a voucher for the amount they cost. Just seems very dodgy.

What difference does it make if they give you a voucher vs a refund? Would really never shop again at Sainsbury's because of one batch of bad apples (literally). A voucher is making it right, imo.

I stopped using them around this time last year because they were utterly useless and unsympathetic headless chickens when lockdown hit!

I'd been a regular online customer for several years before ordering a delivery every week and as I am housebound I order pretty much everything from supermarket not just groceries so I spend on average £80-100 a week

Soon as lockdown hit they basically panicked, shut down the app, the site AND the phone lines and announced they wouldn't be reading emails.

They cancelled orders inc a couple of mine. Basically left me up shit creek! At the last min!

They never like to refund they give vouchers for difference for subs or returns which I didn't mind when I was with them but was a pain when I left them (probably why they do it) so I did one more shop of non perishables to use up the vouchers and haven't used them since

I switched from Morrisons and haven't been overly impressed.

Loads of stock outages. Every one of the drivers complain about the steps to our house, repeatedly on multiple visits. And there's not a lot of care taken, ordered a cheesecake this week and it might as well have been a yogurt the state of it when I got it. Packaging regularly split, I imagine from being chucked around etc.

I found Sainsbury’s delivery has a really limited choice and is expensive.

Sainsburys have been brilliant for me. And I still seem to be able to get a free slot if I spend over £100 at certain times of the week. They've done an excellent job adding loads more online slots where I live.

That's annoying that they've ditched the free delivery - it was for midweek afternoons with spend over £100

Report
Originalyellowbelly · 04/05/2021 15:20

ElBandito you wont be able to get any free slots now, they have stopped them completely, whenever your slot is booked or however much you spend.

I love Sainsbury's and never had any issues unlike Asda who sent me Beetroot seeds in replace of Raspberry's, and contact lens cleaner in replace of vitamins!

Come over to Asdaland, where you have to actually pray essential items will be in stock. Even worse, pray against them using their Asda initiative when substituting items.

It's possible this is just the status quo nowadays. Sainsbury's is actually one of the better options around here, we've been given most of what we ordered with minimal stock issues.

I find Sainsbury’s expensive with limited choice sometimes ,, I prefer Tesco

Definitely gone downhill last 2-3 months. Subs are not good - they always previously had some common sense e.g. 500g pack out of stock, subbed with 2 x 250g but now they will only send one of the smaller items (suspect that is to save having to refund the difference in price!). Lots more short dated items and lots more manky fruit and veg and takes way too long to contact them and get a response. Seems like they adopted Asda's attitude to online shopping when they thought they would be merging!

I agree. On line. Suddenly poor. In stores, I visit 4 depending on my job, suddenly tatty and run down.

My teen son had a job for a year. No contract because they wanted to keep it casual. They announced profits down 27% so all casual staff being let go. I think that speaks volumes.

We always shop in Sainsbury’s as it’s the closest supermarket to us. Never really used their delivery service. I think our Sainsbury’s is quite good. There is an Asda close by too but I prefer Sainsbury’s as I find the quality of food better and has more of a variety. (This asda isn’t that big)
In general, out of Asda Tesco and Sainsbury’s, I would shop at Sainsbury’s.

Each to their own - I’ve had a great experience with Sainsburys deliveries over the last couple of years. I have a delivery pass now but I don’t recall ever being offered free slots before unless you spent over £100.
I find the Asda website difficult to use and value the reviews on the Sainsburys site which Tesco have on just realised is a good idea. I occasionally use Ocado but it’s too expensive for every week and it’s not as good now they’re with M&S.

Mine's fine, have a delivery once a week, prices are fine and if certain things aren't on offer I won't buy them.

Also do a click and collect from Asda as their cereal choice is better, though I have to pay 50p picking fee

There's been a few threads bashing Sainsburys recently. It must depend on your local store (and the pickers). Been using Sainsbury's delivery on and off for years without any issues. Recently started getting them to deliver every week (after click & collect last year) and it's been great. No substitutions for ages now.

I'd love to be able to afford to do my weekly shop at Waitrose, but have tried it and found that like-for-like is significantly more expensive.

I have a delivery pass, and have had it for two years (so pre-pandemic). The minute it runs out I will be shopping elsewhere. Stock has become laughable, packing is abysmal, short use by dates that are impossible, items missing, and the final straw was when I complained about a delivery driver, I was told that "customer service is optional". What did I object to? I'm disabled and the driver literally threw the crates through the door as I was opening it and nearly knocked me off my feet.

AfternoonToffee · 04/05/2021 16:38

Apart from Mr Grump as he became affectionately known, all our drivers are great. It tends to be the same things missing - my bread for example but then I order for first thing on a Monday probably before the bread delivery.

Super saver slot. It's £1 and when I checkout it changes to free. Unless it's changed between now and last week.

Bread! Just reminded me, my last order the sliced bread had been wedged in next to a bottle and was so squashed it was practically folded in half. I refused it and got a refund, when I ordered it next time it had gone up 20p.
