Or are they mostly still in sleep suits?

I didn't do baby grows, nighties with ties at the bottom when they were tiny, then vests and sleeping bags when the got bigger.

Hankunamatata · 02/05/2021 18:47

We had day babygrows and night baby grows. So comfy and simple

ThatIsMyPotato · 02/05/2021 18:50

PJs in the day once they can walk so they are bare foot

Toottootdrivers · 02/05/2021 18:51

DS wore babygros until he was about 9 months, then we switched to pyjamas. I wouldn't have a problem with pyjamas at 6 months (although don't get thick ones coming into summer. They'll never be worn).
For me, pyjamas became more practical the more mobile he got. Once he was pulling up he slipped on our wooden floors in babygros, so pyjamas were better. Also if you have a late night nappy incident it's easier just to change one half rather than get them completely changed!

I would check with the parents. Especially as babies don't realise they are supposed to wear clothes according to their age, DD was always in a size up and I had to exchange several gifts of clothing.

We got a lovely pyjama set and used it as DD needed extra layers in autumn/winter when she was 6 months, in Spring/Summer she just had a sleepsuit.

I loved dressing DD in normal clothes as soon as she was more than jsut 1-2 weeks old, Sleepsuits are for me for bedtime.

24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed · 02/05/2021 19:05

My 16months old wear mostly suits still, proper pyjamas probably twice a week.

Etherealhedgehog · 02/05/2021 19:24

The perennial sleepsuits vs everything else debate aside, it's also worth considering the time of year/expected temperature when they will be wearing them. DD has worn a long-sleeved bodysuit under her sleeping bag all through the winter apart from the very coldest nights when we put her in a sleepsuit. As it warms up, a lot of babies might be sleeping in vests. So if they are long pyjamas maybe buy them but in a size to fit next winter?

Sparklybanana · 02/05/2021 19:28

One of mine was sleepsuits for 18 m, one was eczemary so sleepsuits for as long as possible and 3rd has really enjoyed wearing pajamas from about 9m. He looks so cute. You could always get a bugger size if it's a gift.

HenryHooverIII · 02/05/2021 19:29

When mine were both six months it was really hot, so they pretty much lived and slept in vests. They also outgrew everything quickly. So they were in six months clothes when they were 4/5 months old.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 02/05/2021 19:42

It's actually much easier to change nappies when you pop off pyjama bottoms. It's a gift - don't overthink it. As parents we buy lots of sleepsuits etc so a cute pair of pyjamas as a gift would be lovely. I can remember DD1s first pair, they were very sweet.

UpAt5amAgain · 02/05/2021 19:45

Mine wore a mixture but they were both long/tall and often grew out of baby grows much more quickly than PJs. My DD objected to anything with feet even as a tiny baby! So she has worn PJs since being little.

If it's a gift I'm sure they'll appreciate it if they are nice!

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 02/05/2021 19:46

Sleepsuits until at least 12 months, they’re just more comfortable and easier.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 02/05/2021 19:47

Disagree. You have to take the trousers completely off for the change then try to get a wriggly baby back into them which is just a hassle. Zip up sleepsuits are the best option, especially ones with a two way zip.

firstimemamma · 02/05/2021 19:48

My nearly 3 year old is still in sleepsuits Grin

I agree with the first comment! Much easier taking off a pair of trousers than getting legs out of one end of a sleepsuit then having to hold it out of the way or bundle it uncomfortably under their back or head.

My DD has been wearing pyjamas since she was 6 months. I found them easier for nappy changes during the night rather than faffing with zips or poppers. She generally wears a vest underneath and she sleeps in a sleeping bag, so no worries about her getting cold

BrumBoo · 02/05/2021 20:09

With both of mine, they lived in sleepsuits for the first 3 months. After, they only wore them at night - until 18 months with the older one and about 1 with my much chunkier/longer second. I much prefer pjs but they are not usually as well built for the nappied bum.

Lincs90 · 02/05/2021 20:10

From nine months I've preferred pyjamas - we still have sleep suits - baby is so wriggly that it's annoying doing up the poppers.

I think it's a nice gift. You can always size up if you have doubts and they can use them in the future.

olderthanyouthink · 02/05/2021 20:10

DD stopped wearing onesies just after one because she was using the toilet (yes really, flooding nappies, very lazy EC) and we had the delay bedtime toilet trips to contend with. Also she's small so 6-9 was actually what she was wearing at 12 months and the last size of "baby" clothes I bought her. Now she's 2.5 and just sleeps naked so PJs are pointless.

drpet49 · 02/05/2021 20:11

Sleepsuits until baby starts to walk. Then pyjamas.

If someone had bought me pyjamas for a 6 month old I wouldn’t have used it.

HotDogHotDiggityDog · 02/05/2021 20:25

We were bought a pair of 3-6 month pjs as a gift and thought they were lovely, used them often. I found pjs were often a better fit for my baby than sleepsuits as she has really long legs. We put a vest underneath and she used a sleeping bag, never seemed cold. I also found it easier to put pjs on rather than a sleepsuit once she was crawling so around 8 months as trying to do up all the poppers on a suit was a nightmare with her being on the go.

4amWitchingHour · 02/05/2021 20:31

@MyDcAreMarvel

I always feel sorry for little babies wearing clothes, it must be so uncomfortable. All they need is a babygro and a knitted cardigan until at least nine months.
Unfortunately my DS is the wrong shape for babygros - feet too big and long legs, but if you size up he can't move around as he gets tangled up. So leggings and vests here since 5ish months. He's totally comfy though, no need to feel sorry for him.
TheKeatingFive · 02/05/2021 20:35

I think most are in babygros at that age.

Piglet92 · 02/05/2021 20:36

Dd wore Pjs from around 6 months, she didn't seem to like sleepsuits.

Puntastic · 02/05/2021 20:36

My six month old is currently in pyjamas. He's huge and they were his sister's when she was about a year old, but still...
