Or are they mostly still in sleep suits?

We only ever buy pyjamas for my 5 month old DD as she is long limbed and her feet are scrunched up in baby grows. I only tried her in PJs after getting some as a gift and never went back to babygrows. Plus I love seeing her tiny little toes when we take her socks off for bed.

I think you also have to be mindful of the seasons as PJs might be more suited for the summer months as baby will be cooler with feet open.

Don't buy Pj's for that age, I was bought Pj's for 1 year old and they were never used then ...sleepsuits till they grew out of the latest standard size, far cosier! Buy a nice day outfit instead!

My nearly 3 year old is still in sleepsuits Grin

Yep, I had mine in babygros when they were 2+ but didn't know anyone else whose children were!

I bit the bullet when I had to start cutting the feet off the end of the sleepsuits as they couldn't walk in them...

My baby wore pjs at that age occasionally. I thought they were super cute, probably because they're a novelty.

My Dd was very long and thin as a baby, so the sleepsuits with feet in didn’t really work for her. It was either footless all-in-ones (which I could hardly ever find) or separate pyjamas. So I did, but only for this reason.

@4amWitchingHour So leggings and vests here since 5ish months. He's totally comfy though, no need to feel sorry for him. I wouldn’t feel sorry for a baby in leggings in a vest. It’s full on outfits like jeans or dresses that ride up and and are bumpy when lying down.

I got PJ’s for mine quite early as easier than all them blooming poppers in the middle of the night

We started using pyjamas at 3 months, but kept a few sleepsuits as a backup.

Once he started crawling and fidgeting more (about 9 months) the legs of his sleepsuits would get all floppy/twisted/angled so we stopped using them earlier than we expected to.

My six month old is currently in pyjamas. He's huge and they were his sister's when she was about a year old, but still...

Dd wore Pjs from around 6 months, she didn't seem to like sleepsuits.

I think most are in babygros at that age.

@MyDcAreMarvel

I always feel sorry for little babies wearing clothes, it must be so uncomfortable. All they need is a babygro and a knitted cardigan until at least nine months.

Unfortunately my DS is the wrong shape for babygros - feet too big and long legs, but if you size up he can't move around as he gets tangled up. So leggings and vests here since 5ish months. He's totally comfy though, no need to feel sorry for him.

We were bought a pair of 3-6 month pjs as a gift and thought they were lovely, used them often. I found pjs were often a better fit for my baby than sleepsuits as she has really long legs. We put a vest underneath and she used a sleeping bag, never seemed cold. I also found it easier to put pjs on rather than a sleepsuit once she was crawling so around 8 months as trying to do up all the poppers on a suit was a nightmare with her being on the go.

Sleepsuits until baby starts to walk. Then pyjamas.

If someone had bought me pyjamas for a 6 month old I wouldn’t have used it.

DD stopped wearing onesies just after one because she was using the toilet (yes really, flooding nappies, very lazy EC) and we had the delay bedtime toilet trips to contend with. Also she's small so 6-9 was actually what she was wearing at 12 months and the last size of "baby" clothes I bought her. Now she's 2.5 and just sleeps naked so PJs are pointless.

From nine months I've preferred pyjamas - we still have sleep suits - baby is so wriggly that it's annoying doing up the poppers.

I think it's a nice gift. You can always size up if you have doubts and they can use them in the future.

With both of mine, they lived in sleepsuits for the first 3 months. After, they only wore them at night - until 18 months with the older one and about 1 with my much chunkier/longer second. I much prefer pjs but they are not usually as well built for the nappied bum.

My DD has been wearing pyjamas since she was 6 months. I found them easier for nappy changes during the night rather than faffing with zips or poppers. She generally wears a vest underneath and she sleeps in a sleeping bag, so no worries about her getting cold

@Thatisnotwhatisaid

It's actually much easier to change nappies when you pop off pyjama bottoms.

Disagree. You have to take the trousers completely off for the change then try to get a wriggly baby back into them which is just a hassle. Zip up sleepsuits are the best option, especially ones with a two way zip.

I agree with the first comment! Much easier taking off a pair of trousers than getting legs out of one end of a sleepsuit then having to hold it out of the way or bundle it uncomfortably under their back or head.

Sleepsuits until at least 12 months, they’re just more comfortable and easier.

Mine wore a mixture but they were both long/tall and often grew out of baby grows much more quickly than PJs. My DD objected to anything with feet even as a tiny baby! So she has worn PJs since being little.

If it's a gift I'm sure they'll appreciate it if they are nice!
