AIBU to think some people are going to miss covid

There's been threads all with people hand wringing about what the neighbours are up to and who's breaking what covid regulations.
The threads are still happening but seem to be fast losing support as most people are more than happy to resume regular life and appreciate the lowering risk.
AIBU to think some people are going to miss the easy social judgement covid made available to them and they'll miss curtain twitching and pretending to worry about their neighbours when their grandchildren enter the house 1 day earlier than a regulation change.

People like that will always find something to fulfill whatever weird need drives them to disapprove of and report others for. Covid has been a real bonanza for them but they'll move on and fix on something else.

the80sweregreat · 01/05/2021 22:31

I do think that some will miss it and the lockdowns. It might be something to do with the control it all had and actually enjoying it ?
I feel that there has been a big shift in how we live and it'll take a while to go back to how it was before ( if it ever does )
I feel strange about it all Generally if I am honest.

SuddenArborealStop · 01/05/2021 22:32

I get feeling strange about it but do you judge other people for not feeling strange and just getting on with it?!

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 22:33

Yes, absolutely.

fluffydinosaur21 · 01/05/2021 22:34

I'll miss the fact that I got away with not socialising with family and friends for over a year. Grin
But yeah, the curtain twitchers will miss it.

RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 22:35

YANBU, some people have been loving all this

AlCalavicci · 01/05/2021 22:35

I am not going to miss Covid and I very much doubt anyone else will BUT , I know what you mean about people having nothing to to have a go at others about , my neighboured seems to of made himself the self appointed covid tell tale , it started when me and some others would not come out and clap / bang pans / blast car horns etc every Thursday to thank the NHS , he actually knocked on my door twice to ask why I hated the NHS !
he now tells everyone that will listen who is in whos bubble , who has had to many visitors etc .,
God knows what he is going to do when we can all come and go as we please

SoupDragon · 01/05/2021 22:35

Yes. Some people are going to miss the many opportunities to snipe at other people's concerns. Whatever will you do then?

the80sweregreat · 01/05/2021 22:37

My friend and her family have revealed in it all a bit. I am concerned at how much it's been allowed to affect their entire life but they have always been a bit strange about things and paranoid about everything!

Msmcc1212 · 01/05/2021 22:37

Would love to have a chance to miss it but it’s here to stay. We will just get better at dealing with it and hopefully the worst is over.

SuddenArborealStop · 01/05/2021 22:39

At some point as risk reduces, people's legitimate concerns need to focus on their own families and not the entire community at large.

The year is 2035 and someone with a username "keyworkercantstayhome" resurrects a covid zombie thread from 2020 "AIBU to visit my parents now the restrictions eased over the summer" with "We should all be very careful. Think of the vulnerable! I know gov said it's ok, but it's not. Think. Stop killing grannies"

Yup. Can see that actually 🙈

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/05/2021 22:54

I like the restrictions on visiting houses as it means I can keep my parents out Grin

tecatea · 01/05/2021 22:56

Truthfully some things I will miss eg the slower pace of life but many parts of it I've hated.

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 01/05/2021 22:59

I've literally within the last 10 minutes posted almost exactly your OP on a thread.

Sadly, it turned out to be a reverse so now I look like a tear, but the sentiment still stands

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 01/05/2021 23:00

Twat, not tear.

But I may shed one if my autocorrect doesn't stop wrongly being helpful

There's always been misanthropes desperate to piss on every bodys' chips and bring the world down to their miserable level. Covid's been an absolute gift to them. All that wonderful noble "sacrifice" and moralising for so little effort.
It'll be a shock for them to have to get back out into the world to find things to clutch their pearls over.

jumpbounce · 01/05/2021 23:03

There has been aspects of covid that I really hoped would bring about change for for future mainly flexible working ...wfh...less commuting being one leading to many families having a better work/life balance. It's been lovely to see a lot more fathers at the school gates as a result of wfh. More life in smaller villages which were typically all commuters and many of the independent businesses in these areas have been benefiting from the commuters not commuting and instead buying a takeaway coffee in their local rather than in Costa etc in the city. It could have lead to a lot of regeneration in smaller local areas in years to come but it would seem there's just a demand for a rush back to the 'old normal' rat race again for reasons I will never understand.

Werewolfbarmitzvahs · 01/05/2021 23:05

100%, I was chatting about this to my husband the other day. So many people showing what sanctimonious twats they always were under the guise of COVID.

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 23:09

Surely you get that not everyone has the same priorities, preferences and needs as you?

Poorlykitten · 01/05/2021 23:11

What’s there to miss? You do realise it’s not going anywhere...?

ClarkeGriffin · 01/05/2021 23:14

Nah they'll just go back to curtain twitching and getting upset about the bins being left out 2 hours longer than necessary.

I quite like my life now thanks to covid changes though. Get to work from home, saving more money, but also got more money to spend (before most of it was spent on travel expenses). My life is just easier now.

Hankunamatata · 01/05/2021 23:14

Weirdly I miss the lack of traffic during lockdowns. Commuting was a breeze.
Back to same old crazy now

HazeyJaneII · 01/05/2021 23:16

I hope the arseholery about people having concerns and some of the absolute horse shiteshite spouted on here calling people lockdown lovers etc (christ that one is getting tired) disappears.

100% can see this happening. Sad but true.
